I can literally call my salon experience at Blow it Out, one of the worst experiences of my life.
I called to make an appointment and I explained to the lady over the phone that I have natural kinky African American hair and that I wanted a roller set. The lady over the phone was really nice and she assured me that they had a woman by the name of jackie that specializes in black hair that would know how to handle my hair.
I walked into the shop and the receptionist kindly pointed to the beautician that would do my hair which was a short black woman with blond hair that was cut and tapered like a man would wear, I looked at her, smiled and said hello. She walked pass me to her chair without saying a word and told me to come to her chair. I told her what style I wanted and she immediately told me with a look of disgust on her face «this hair can’t be put in rollers» while at the same time picking at my hair like it was trash. I assured her that this is the style that I always wear and it always comes out great. She said «well your hair is a reflection of me, and my work and I have to make sure it looks good for me.» I politely let her know that as long as the customer is happy that is all that really matters. She told me to come back the the shampoo bowl and sat me back in the chair without saying a word. I felt her anger and irritation so I asked her if she was irritated and if there was a problem. My entire body felt extremely uncomfortable. She looked me in my eyes, shut off the water and gave me this long long speech about how long she’s been doing hair, where she did hair and blah blah blah. By this time the entire shop was watching, at least fourteen women. Please note that I have a quiet personality and I HATE being the center of attention. Looking back I regret not walking out at that moment.
She sat me in her chair I told her that I wanted setting lotion put in my hair to create soft curls and without asking me she added gel which ultimately left my hair rock hard with a white residue over each curl. Please keep in mind that six other beauticians and all of there clients were looking at my hair the entire time like I was a science experiment. They may have never seen African American natural hair before. All I wanted to do is get out of there. I went to the restroom to take a quick look at my hair and the restroom smelt like someone had just took a dump in there. It smelled like something crawled in there and died. I held my breath the entire time. I walked out, allowed her to take the rollers out, paid her and got the heck out of there as fast as my legs would carry me. Please, think twice before entering this salon.

Went here last Saturday for the first time for shampoo & styling and I think my hair came out great! I have a lot of hair, asked for waves and said my hair doesn’t take to curling well. The only negative was that the power tripped 2 – 3 times during blow dry, stalling things while they got the power back on. That shouldn’t which happen in a place that requires power, which they probably were addressing.

Regarding salon atmosphere and overall customer service, I give this place a big fat zero. If I could give it zero stars, I would. The owner, Patty, is not welcoming at all and she acts as if she is doing you a favor by allowing you to spend your money at her establishment. She is inconsistent with the pricing and what she has on the menu for a specific price will easily become much more due to her adding fees for things that should be included in the original price. She lacks people skills and she lacks customer service. I flat out do not like this lady, I do like a few of her stylist, but it’s not enough. I’m never going back to this place.

I didn’t know this place existed until I stumbled upon it on my way to SuperCuts. I walked in and asked if they did color. I was immediately greeted by Jessica Brown who is very friendly and upbeat. I only asked a question and left with her card. After seeing all the bad reviews I got a little scared but decided to give Jessica a try since she was so nice. Basically, I previously had my hair dyed by someone else who completely messed it up (No one at this salon). My hair looked like a fried ugly yellow orange and I wanted to fix it. Originally I wanted a nice dark purple but Patty took the time to explain what would happen if I did that. She basically said I would be in there every two weeks. She then brought out a number of burgundy swatches and explained to me what my options were since my color was three different colors thanks to the person who messed it up. I decided on the Purpleish Burgundy I initially wanted and Jessica did a wonderful job. Although Jessica admitted to being a new hair stylist (she’s young) I gave her a try and Patty who I believe is the owner was there to guide her the whole time. I have A LOT of hair so it took her about 3 hours to finish coloring, cutting, and styling. They did charge me a little extra since they used so my hair dye but I didn’t mind because I have a ton of hair. In conclusion, don’t go just by these reviews. True Patty is very direct and comes off as a tiny bit rude but I don’t think it’s that she’s rude she’s just very bold and direct. Also, don’t always underestimate the rookie because boy did she do a great job :)

Very disappointed. I Paid 100 dollars for hair and makeup and had to redo everything when I got home. They don’t even listen to what you want. The stylist didn’t even ask me what I wanted. She just started doing her own thing. Curled my hair and didn’t even use a heat protectant or oil. Then she used too much hair spray that my hair was crunch and then in the middle of it she decides to leave and have another stylist
Finish and even that girl said she messed up my hair. I ended up not going to the occasion because I was so upset.

I came into this place because I just wanted a simple 1920’s updo and some Plain Jane Makeup. Upon booking my appointment I had asked how long it would take for simple updo and just foundation, thick eyeliner, and red lipstick (for makeup). The owner assured me no more than an hour because I had short hair and didn’t need too much makeup. This place looked professional so I thought price is right why not book it? Looks can be deceiving. THAT’S FOR SURE!
I came in on the day of my appointment met my hairstylist/​makeup artist. She asked me to show her a picture of the hairstyle I wanted. So I showed her the picture of side bun from my phone. She curls my hair takes her about 10 minutes. After that she ask to see the picture of the hairstyle again and she makes me hold it up for her as she tries to pin my hair up. So about 40 minutes into her trying to pin my hair up she decides she doesn’t know what she’s doing. (Obviously I’m not going to make it to my party on time) She than ask another hairstylist to help her. Well I was glad that my hair was getting somewhere but the end result made me look like a 1990’s Asian Bride. I mean if I were going to a 1990’s theme party I wouldn’t mind.
So as the new hairstylists works on my hair I asked how long for makeup? «I was suppose to be out of here by now?» –I asked.
So the original girl that started my hair goes off runs to her car and gets HER makeup bag. Wait??? Ummmm the salon doesn’t have their own makeup? So I’m here thinking I’ll be getting good brand salon makeup and this girl is putting Mac powder (which is a good brand) But then she starts busting out the Drugstore makeup brands.
Makeup Brands used on me:
Foundation– Revlon 24hr
Elf– Blush $ 3.00 at drugstore
Lipstick– She didn’t have any so I had to use my own (bought at Ulta)
NYX-​eyeliner
Elf– Eyebrow
In the end it took:
1 hour for my short hair to be pinned up (hair is shoulder length)
20 minutes for make-​up
25 minutes to pay my bill and I was the only one in line trying to check out!
This is by far the first place I’ve been too that I would love to give a negative star. Just sayin’.
Save your money and youtube how to do your hair & Makeup instead of coming to this place.

amazing job. Was very haply with the style. She did my make up too! She was very sweet and caring!

First off I sent sweet mother there to get her hair done for my bridal shower. I am a hair stylist myself but knew I wouldn’t be able to do her hair cause it was my BiG day. We made her appointment with the owner of the salon in hopes that she would be more than satisfied with it because after all,“if she owns the salon surely she can do hair!”
BUT!!! That wasn’t the case. She just wanted a simple up-​do. Nothing fancy. My mother has wavy hair. The stylist didn’t straighten her hair prior to teasing it bigger than a southern woman’s hair at the Kentucky derby! She kept trying to tell the stylist what she wanted but the women kept saying,“I know what I’m doing!” How rude! She may have known what she was doing if she was getting a toddler ready for a TV Beauty pageant but not «bridal hair»…Let’s just say mother went home crying and took as much if it down as she could. Won’t be using them again. It’s not the 90s any more it’s important to keep up with the trends in this line of work!

I will most definitely be coming back again.

I originally came to this salon because my hair stylist Teresa, who does AMAZING work, moved to this location. I frequently get my hair blow dried, styled, etc., so I’ve been to this establishment many times in the short period that Teresa has worked there.
I was not pleased at all with ambiance of the salon. Every time I came for an appointment the door was open, and there was no air conditioning. This also includes extremely hot days. You would think, as a business owner, you’d want to make your patrons feel as comfortable as possible, and you’d want them to leave the salon having the best experience possible; however, the conditions were miserable. When I go get my hair styled, I’d like to be comfortable, and not feel like I am in a furnace being blasted with heat, while it is already hot indoors. This type of environment was not at the fault of the stylist, however. There was nothing she could do about it.
The vibe of the salon was uptight and stressful. I could tell by my stylist’s demeanor, as well as the attitude of the other stylists. The owner seemed very rude and short the first couple of times I came in. This salon will not continue to receive my business now that Teresa no longer works there. I am so very pleased that my stylist has moved to a new location, where I can be comfortable.

I came in a couple weeks ago wanting to get the under layer of my hair bleached and colored bright pink professionally. I had bleached and dyed my hair myself before but the color washed out really quickly so I figured a decent looking hair salon would have salon grade crazy colors that would be better quality and last longer. The place looked great, clean and very open, so I figured it would be a nice place to go.
I asked about the price and it was pretty decent. I have short but somewhat thick hair so I knew everywhere would be more pricey but again I thought I would be paying for professional quality supplies. At first, Princess and this more mature woman were very nice. I talked about what I wanted and they helped me to finalize what I was going to get done.
They told me that the overall price was going to be $ 111 for the whole process, color and bleaching. I was also told that they would be able to supply the color for me. Then the older lady (whose name I regret not getting now) said that since I was «so specific» in the color I wanted, I should go get the color from Hot Topic. Now many people may not know, but the dye sold at Hot Topic is expensive for dye AND washes out almost immediately (the total cost of the dye was $ 22, and that was ON SALE because the salon workers told my friend to get two bottles). I was confused but I figured since the agreement was $ 111 for everything, they would pay for the dye from Hot Topic right? Wrong.
Now Princess had already started to bleach my hair so my friend went for me along with an employee from the salon. My friend asked the employee who went with her and also the one who was dying my hair if the cost of the hair dye was included in the $ 111 and both said yes. I was angry that they didn’t use the salon grade hair dye already but I decided to let that go. It was already too late and I was too far in.
So my hair is almost done and the woman asks my friend to pay on my behalf as I was not done with my hair. She rings up the price and says the total is $ 111 still. I only brought enough money to pay for the whole process so I didn’t have enough. I texted my parents that I needed more money, angry that I was still getting my hair done and they overpriced me.
My parents come to the salon asking why it was a different price than what was agreed upon and the old hag started having a condescending attitude. She was extremely rude and would roll her eyes constantly. She then tells me that it was going to be $ 111 plus the cost of toner and since they didn’t have the toner, I had to pay for it myself when NO ONE told me that ever. She kept talking over me when I was trying to let her understand what was told to me. It was as if she didn’t acknowledge what I was saying because I seemed young. She then tells my mother, (exact words here) «If you thought there was going to be a problem, you should be with you daughter.» Pardon my profanity but fuck you lady. I am old enough to understand what is told to me. I’m sure my intelligence level at the fourth grade was higher than what yours is now.
She definitely tried to overprice me. I know I’m not unintelligent. $ 111 for bleach and dye was what we agreed on so the $ 22 I spent on my colored dye (or toner, like the old hag referred to it as) should have been subtracted.
Overall, that old woman ruined my entire experience. She was condescending and meddling in an appointment that never included her. The attitude she gave off was very unprofessional and inappropriate. Wisdom does not come with age and she didn’t seem to understand that. At least Princess was nice. My hair came out okay but a week later, all the dye was gone.
Don’t waste your money. It’s definitely not worth it.

Appointment clerk/​owner is rude. Need to work on being professional with clients on the phone. I have never experience this before.

So I came in today looking for either individual braids /​kinky twists and I was given to the gentle hands of Ms. Princess. I’ve had many experiences with awkward stylists and people who just DIDN’T know how to handle extensions AND just did NOT want to braid my asian locks (Yes I’m an Asian who rocks the individuals); but Princess knew exactly what she was doing. She was very kind, approachable, helpful, and braided my hair flawlessly. She’s AMAZING! IF YOU EVER WANT ANY BRAIDED EXTENSIONS OR NATURAL HAIR STYLES GO SEE THIS WOMAN!!! Also, the other stylist Patty was so helpful in setting up my appointment and even keeping a good conversation going throughout the 4 hours duration of my hair braiding. They even stayed late with me and made me feel super comfortable, which is exactly what I look for in a salon. Highly recommend this place. Very versatile!!!
So again: ASK FOR PRINCESS FOR AMAZING BRAIDS AND NATURAL HAIRSTYLES!!!

My stylist (Teresa) recently started working at this salon and I love the feel and ambiance of the salon. Teresa does incredible style and color. I always get a ton of compliments about how great my hair looks. Teresa always seizes to amaze me. Another positive is that she also always tries to accommodate my crazy schedule, which is a huge plus for me. I highly recommend Teresa for your cut and color needs. She is a Master Stylist and a color expert and she keeps abreast of current hair styles, trends and color by constantly attending continuing education courses. If you want a warm, friendly and accommodating stylist, Teresa is the one for you and for your family.
On a separate occasion, I had a blowout done by Donisha. I honestly hadn’t had a blowout done before and I didn’t know what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised with the end result. My hair looked great! It was bouncy and full of body. Donisha did a great job!

I hate to do this but my friend and I had a pretty terrible experience here. We chose it because of the high start rating.
I asked for a blow out with textured ends vs curls. She asked if I wanted volume and I said sure. When she turned my chair around to face the mirror and asked if there was anything else I needed, I literally asked her «are you done?» My hair was frizzy looked like it was half dried… I basically looked like a tweeker poodle. I asked her to fix it and after all was said and done I paid $ 50 for a straight style I could have done 5x better at home.
To add: she was 15min late to begin my appt, there was hair and residue on the chair I sat in from her previous customer and all across the store floor. And to top it off, mid working in my hair she walked out of the salon when she saw a woman reading her price list to promote the salon.
The best the thing my $ 50 got me was the best $ 1 bottle I’ve ever had.

Today I got a call back from the stores owner Patty… She scheduled me to come back in to have the service redone, and assured me that they do care about the customers experience and satisfaction. I give Patty a 5 star rating for promptly addressing the situation and being a true professional but unfortunately I can not give this establishment a 5 star because Norma (receptionist) is rude and needs some customer service training if she is going to be the first form of contact. Hopefully once I go in my mind will be changed and I can update this review with flying colors.

PROS: Debra and Angelina are awesome! I’ve been there twice for blow outs and loved their service and their banter.
CONS: Employee with screaming child. NOT pleasant at all.
I would give this place 5 stars if not for one thing… one of the employees had her 3-​year-​old spoiled, bratty, and screaming child in the salon while I was there in my last visit. As soon as I was seated in the shampoo chair, he started crying/screaming…apparently because I was too close to his bag of toys. I don’t blame the boy; he was just bored and wanted attention. Mom seemed intrigued with her smart phone and seemed to pay minimal attention to him, even when he stepped outside of the salon unescorted. Thankfully, mother and child left before my appointment was over so the last half of my visit was enjoyable.
Would I go back? Yes BUT only if there is no crying child in sight.

I wanted to love it, I really did. I came in on a Living Social deal and since I hate to blow dry my hair, I was in! Ugh…
First, since no one asked me my name when I came in, I was given to the wrong stylist. Mix-​up solved quickly.
Secondly, do NOT use your fingernails when shampooing someone’s hair. It is painful, unsanitary and it’s something you learn in beauty school. The shampoo should be a relaxing experience. This was not. The bowls are uncomfortable as well.
Please never, never rub wet hair with a towel. You have now roughed up the cuticle and made my hair tangly. Which leads me to the blow out…
My 4 year old niece is fair more gentle on hair than the treatment I received! You cannot take that round brush through my soaking wet hair! If you are consistently yanking my head all over the place, this is not the brush for me. I left that place with the most excruciating headache. (And having just come from a massage, I was a bit pissed) I asked for volume, bouncy with a little curl — what I got was flat, tangly with some curl on the end.
And how the heck do you not have change in the cash drawer??? These girls had to scramble up $ between them so I could tip her.
Back to The Dry Bar for me!!!

I really liked this place! I got a great blow out, it lasted for days and my stylist actually double-​shampooed me which is seriously over the top haircare!
It was really empty for a Saturday afternoon and I really hope more gals give Blow It Out a shot. Your hair will love you!
