*PLUS 5 MORE STARS! AND THIS IS MY STORY, BEFORE SEEING MY 12^th DR. EDWARD RUBIN, MD.
I had my 1^st lumbar laminectomy in 2008, where discs S1−2, L4−5 were removed by LI spinal surgeon, who replaced them w. spacers, titanium screws. I was told there was no other option, after 12 epidural shots, pain mgt, etc. I apparently had severe nerve pain, numbness in feet, and advanced stenosis. I followed everything I was advised. No relief, but told that it takes a yr for nerves to regenerate. After 16 months, the pain became so unbearable! It felt like no one cared enough to listen anymore! From the start, I was given several pain Meds & sent on my way. I still get dizzy, nausea, and have yet to take a full dose. (Had to use antiemetics Meds for nausea, and pain itself.) In addition, was the drowsiness. Meds provided little relief to the bilateral sciatic nerve pain. I tried to tolerate the unbearable pain as much as possible. I was FINALLY told that the 2 discs above the surgery site were done. (Why wasn’t I told that they were bad BEFORE the 1^st surgery?). That surgeon said that «they were not as bad as the bottom 2, and he didn’t think I’d blow them so fast»! This was NEVER told to me all along. I went thru every procedure that they suggested. A discography (where they try to find source of pain by anesthesia, when u scream, they find location of pain source, TORTURE!), then discography (laser removal of slice of disc impinging nerves). Well, NOTHING helped. I asked EVERY QUESTION POSSIBLE! I was told by this surgeon, that I had no other alternative but to have a 2^nd surgery. He would have to go through my stomach, removing organs to get to discs, (guess he did not want to redo his 1^st surgery). Maybe he could have done all 4 at once??! But, he never even mentioned that ALL 4 were bad in the 1^st place! (No way my vital organs were going to sit on a table for hrs, while he operated… exposing them to hosp. SuperBugs & MRSSA!)He did suggest implanting electrodes, them a stim machine, which distracts from pain as it vibrates ²⁴⁄₇. (I know several people that got life threatening infections from these). NOW, I must tell you that I asked HIM, 2 pain mgt drs., 2PA’S, 2 NP’s) at EVERY APPT, if it was possible to BLOCK THE NERVES??! Each time I was told it was“it’s ONLY used during certain procedures to control pain,& lasts an hour.” I left the last appt hysterical! No way was I going to agree to a spine surgery thru my stomach! I sought many other opinions, including the «top spine guy» on LI who books 3 mo. In advance. Said scar tissue or hardware was impinging nerve. Nothing could be done, scar tissue will re grow. My husband, found a Neurosurgeon at NSUH, Manhasset, NY., who was written up as a Top Dr. He assured me, that he could ‘FIX’ the entire mess, accessing the spine on posterior side, redoing the entire 4 discs by bldg. a cage of 2 bars,& 10 titanium screws. He «promised me» that I would be «back to normal, could EVEN SKI ! I had a 10+hour surgery, 2÷29÷12. I was KO’d on morphine the entire time! (The surgeon was even annoyed that I was never awake!) Well, after several follow-​up visits, I told him over and over, that my sciatic pain was at a very high level 8 – 10!, bilateral ache, burning, pins/​needle … Like fireworks, random sides, or both, ²⁴⁄₇. By the 3^rd appt, I realized I was right back to the beginning, AGAIN! Begging for help, on deaf ears. His bedside manor was a zero! told him nothing was improving, couldn’t sit /​stand over 10mins, agony! I actually felt he didn’t believe me! I got the ‘wait a yr for the nerves to repair’ speech. By now, my hair had broken off, from the lengthy anesthesia, my L foot was dragging, causing me to trip/​fall, and had no balance. Finally, he gave me the old „Brush Off“ and suggested Pain Mgt. BACK TO THE BEGINNING! OMG! I felt defeated. This was my last hope, and it was a failed surgery. I WENT THRU ALL OF THIS TO FIX the problem, NOT to go back to BANDAIDS! He referred me to Dr Rubin, and sent me on my way. His job was finished, and he clearly acted as if I was wasting his time! By now, the pain was so severe, and deep depression was setting in. I was angry, resentful. No one wanted to listen, even my family couldn’t deal. I sought therapy for PTSD, I was mourning the life I had, and could not Fathom dealing w the pain, the rest of my days. How would I be in 10 yrs, 20yrs? I couldn’t imagine. Started to push everyone away, felt my family would be better off w/​o me. My quality of life was so low, I lost the career I loved and worked so hard for. I had been a Clinical Pharmacist, spec. in Organ transplant for 14 yrs, working team at NYU Hosp. My dreams all crushed. I wasn’t suicidal,(yet?) but in a very dark place, falling deeper. I couldn’t think of a future. I couldn’t enjoy or look fwd to a thing.
After 11 useless opinions, I went to Dr Rubin. He suggested» Nerve Ablation”, a protocol of nerve blocking. AMAZING! He literally saved my life! Pain Free!

I’ve been a patient of Dr. Rubin’s for years to treat my lung/​thoracic region and neck pain. I first started seeing him back when he was practicing in Manhattan and have continued to do so even though Garden City is a longer commute for me.
Your probably wondering why do I make this commute when I could just see someone closer? The are many reasons. Dr. Rubin and his staff exhibit all the traits that you look for when picking a practice. They are friendly, courteous, efficient and trustworthy, all of which combined are a rare find in today’s medical services. Making an appointment is a breeze and everyone knows me by my first name. In all of my visits I have never felt rushed, or mistreated. Sometimes they run late in seeing patients but that happens no matter where I’ve gone. But the most important reason I continue seeing Dr. Rubin is that he has brought my chronic pain to a level that has given me back a quality of life that I didn’t think would be possible before I started treatment with him. I also want to add that I have read the other reviews to date and they are pretty spot on, with the exception of J. W’s. I find J. W’s review to be very out of the norm. I’ve experienced 2 billing mistakes myself and both were handled promptly, courteously, and without any other problems.
In conclusion, I will continue commuting to see Dr. Rubin and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend his services!

Rubin’s recent reply to my review is untrue in all aspects. The mistake was not made by the insurance company, it was made by his multiple billing offices, who do not know how to communicate properly with one another. The insurance company is the one who caught the mistake and fixed it, not Rubin’s people. I never cashed any check, they did; and it took my repeated harassment of their office staff to get the double payment returned. And five months after resolving the issue with my insurance company, I got ANOTHER two bills from them just last month. They claim it is a computer glitch; but if I had simply paid them without questioning it, then they would have received fraudulent extra payments. Lastly, the relief to my back pain due to Dr. Rubin’s procedures was completely temporary. He has no idea what my situation is today, because I have never gone back to him after this billing nightmare.

WOW!!! I am so happy I was recommended to see Dr. Rubin. He is a fantastic Doctor and his bedside manner is wonderful. His staff are both friendly and professional. I have never had to wait long in his office as he takes his patients time into consideration. I needed to schedule a procedure in December and he cared enough to remind me of deductibles which would begin again in January. It’s a great feeling when you know you can trust a doctor financially besides your personal well being. I wanted to share my experience with other individuals who are in need of excellent care they deserve!!! Thank you Dr. Rubin, I am so fortunate to have you as my physician!

Dr Rubin, is to put it simply, great. He’s genuinely interested in all of his patients and never makes me feel like I’m being rushed out or that I’m just a number. I’ve been seeing him for some time now and always leave feeling better than I did before I got there. His staff is polite and professional and always greet me with a smile and make sure that all my needs are met before leaving. I strongly recommend Dr. Rubin.

To say that Dr. Rubin is anything less the best is his field is ridiculous. I’ve been under Dr. Rubin’s for about 4mobths or so and have only experienced great results. I can say that this healer has given back my life! God Bless you!

Dr Rubin and his staff are the best I had fierce pain in my neck and back and he gave me an epidural and made me feel like new Hes the best and the staff bend over backwards to help you

Made my quality of life 100% improved! I am able to work full-​time and enjoy all of the things I missed out on while trying to cope with severe chronic pain. Office staff are very friendly and provide professional service.

Dr. Rubin a professional, competent, caring doctor who takes the time to listen to what you have to say. The staff at the office are warm and welcoming. Dr. Rubin diagnosed me and has been treating me for the past year… My pain has greatly diminished. Couldn’t ak for a better doctor. Thank you!
