History

Established in 1974.

The Holderied family bought the Golden Arrow Motor Inn from a local attorney. At the time, the hotel consisted of only 36 rooms.

1976 — 1979 were years of major growth for the small hotel.

1980 — Lake Placid hosted its second Winter Olympic Games. The Golden Arrow was fully booked for three solid weeks. ABC used it as headquarters as they covered the games. The Holderieds, being native German speakers, welcomed the Austrian ski team into their home.

2005 –The family decides it is time to take responsibility & really focus on running an environmentally friendly operation. With the help of the Audubon Society they create goals & strategies for becoming a more Earth friendly resort.

2009 –The Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort is the first resort in the United States to achieve a 5 green leaf Platinum rating (the highest rating available) from the Audubon Society for its green initiatives.

2012 –The first of the 3rd Generation of Holderied Family came to work at the hotel full time.

Meet the Business Owner

Jennifer H.

Business Owner

Jenn H is an owner of the Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort one of the countries leading «Green» resorts, located in Lake Placid, New York. Her primary job duties include General Manager, and perhaps her largest role, Champion of Environmental Initiatives.

In 2005, the family determined that it was time to take greater responsibility toward climate change. Jenn has worked to make the Golden Arrow an Earth friendly resort by creating green programs for the front and back of the house that lessen the impact of traveling on the Earth’s resources. Lake Placid is located in the the the Adirondack Park, a crowned jewel encompassing approximately 6 million acres. Given the location of the business, Jenn has taken a leadership role to help educate children and guests and help other tourism businesses take steps to operate in a more sustainable manner.
