Lake Grove Veterinary Clinic has been locally and privately owned since 1976. We strive to offer not only sound advice, but also optimal veterinary care, thus allowing you the enjoyment of your companion for a maximum number of years. Our jub is not only to treat your pet when he or she isn’t feeling well, but also to help you learn how to keep your best friend happy and healthy.

Business Owner

Dr. Gerald Hoffman received his D.V.M. in 1971 from the University of Minnesota. He then went on to join the Veterinary Corp in the US Army and served in Korea. Dr. Hoffman ran a small animal hospital serving the military and diplomatic families at the base and was also responsible for the sentry dogs at the South Korean missile sites. He bought Lake Grove Animal Clinic in 1976, changed the name to Lake Grove Veterinary Clinic and has continued the fine name and reputation for almost 38 years.

Dr. Hoffman cycles, skis, and loves getting out on his John Deere tractor in his spare time. He and his wife, Catherine raise Dobermans with their business Winter Ridge Dobermans. They also have about 200 chickens and sell their eggs under the name «HoffHens» at local grocery stores!

I’ve known Cameron Larson at Lake Grove Veterinary since he was in vet school with my daughter at OSU. Kind and compassionate but best of all an excellent communicator. He recently did dentals on my mini poodle and checked in with me while she was still under sedation to report and ask if I wanted X-​rays, teeth pulled, etc. I’ve started using this clinic for day and overnight boarding as well. Love the whole staff.

I’ve been a client of Lake Grove Vet Clinic for 4 years, since we moved to Portland. I’ve had lots of pets in lots of cities over the years and this team is the BEST: Dr. Harvey, Angie, and all the gals who run the front desk — everyone is pleasant, professional, and caring.
We currently have 2 rescue dogs + 1 rescue cat. All are aging and unfortunately, both dogs have different obscure chronic illnesses that require ongoing care. Dr. Harvey always spends a lot of time asking questions about how they are behaving in order to diagnose and manage their illnesses. On more than one occasion, she has gone WAY «above and beyond» to be available off-​hours to check on the dogs when they were ill or to call me to discuss test results.
When I take my pets to Dr Harvey the LGVC team, they treat my pets like they are their own — with expertise, love, and compassion. Folks come out from behind the front desk to greet us by name and several of the techs do the same. I never feel rushed and they take care to make sure I understand all the options and all my questions are answered.
These folks are outstanding and I really appreciate all the care they’ve given us over the years. Thanks LGVC!

Lake Grove Vet Clinic is the worst clinic I’ve ever experienced in 57 years. The employees are for the most part clueless, rude, and unprofessional. They denied my kitten antibiotics after saying they would provide them without a $ 60 charge for a 1 minute checkup when my kitten’s brother was put on them. They tried to take a credit card number over the phone to set an appt. or told me to come in and pay cash first. There is not a Vet clinic in the world that does this if they care about animals. Companion Pet Clinic in Beaverton off Allen Blvd. is half the price, you can walk-​in without an appt., and they truly do care. Lake Grove Vet Clinic is a JOKE !

Wish we would have listened to several friends and neighbors who recommended this veterinary office much sooner. Dr. Larson was very helpful and took time to clearly explain procedures and possible outcomes. They are great at following up and maintain good relationships with their pets and owners. The people were all professional, kind and thoughtful. This is hands down the best veterinary clinic experience we have had and we would highly recommend this clinic.

I went to this vet upon the recommendation of a woman I met on my plane ride moving to Oregon. She was so right! Dr. Weikum really seemed to care about my cat. His diagnosis and treatment fixed my cats skin condition after the very first visit with him. This was after three years of multiple vets trying but not succeeding to diagnose her issue.
I only wish we had seen him first. Would have saved my cat from years of skin issues and my pocket book from paying the other vet bills with no solution.
Long story short. He knows his stuff, cares, and treats to resolution.

Reading a negative review spurred me to write this — If I were you I would ignore the negative reviews. I can’t believe they were at the same clinic. To be clear, this is for Lake Grove Veterinary Clinic. It is the BEST! We have had over a dozen pets taken care of there over the last 15 years, and without exception the care, canine and feline, has been OUTSTANDING. Diagnoses clear and spot on, options given for various treatments. We have been through the gamut from day care boarding to knee surgery (dog) and foot surgery (cat), have adopted multiple cats from there. We have had vets in St. Louis, Austin Tx, Maidenhead England, Bakersfield CA, and LGVC is at the very top of the list over a lifetime of loving multiple pets. The head guy, Dr. Jerry Hoffman, is exceptional — LOVES his work and all animals, and is great in consultation about what is wrong, and what the options are to fix it. Their boarding care person, Diane, is to us the «dog whisperer». We adopted two terrier mixes from Project Pooch (a GREAT program), and one had a problem with fear-​aggression from original owner — Diane has worked with him and he absolutely ADORES her now! My wife is an RN — she would pick up any issues, believe me. We unhesitatingly give LGVC our highest recommendation based upon hundreds of personal visits and well over a decade of interactions with all staff.

I feel very comfortable bringing my fur babies here. We have had nothing but great experiences. Dr. Weikum and Dr. Harvey have both been wonderful. Dr. Weikum treated our very sick kitty. He called to keep us updated on the process, helped us find a hard to get medication, and even let us text him after hours if we had questions. When it was time to make the hard decision and Dr. Weikum wasn’t in, Dr. Harvey walked us through the process and made a heartbreaking experience a little easier. The staff is great as well. They were very kind during this difficult time. We will continue to bring our other kitty here. She has always been very difficult at other vets, but seems to be more comfortable here with Dr. Harvey. Thank you!

We have been nothing but happy with LGVC. We vet shopped for a long time after our favorite vet from a nearby clinic left and the other vet office started charging us just for calling and asking for clarity on discharge instructions from check-​ups and simple procedures.
When this excess charging started to happen, we quickly left old vet and were pointed to LGVC. We’ve been coming here for years now. We’ve worked with a couple of the vets and they’ve all been great and helpful.
Prices are about average. They have always advised us on best course of action when it comes to our dog’s comfort and affordability — even if it meant referring us to go elsewhere. Most importantly though, our dog hates going here and it shows with her nervous behavior. To accommodate her, they’ve even come out to the car to check on her because she does so poorly in the office. They really are an understanding and great clinic!

Our family moved to LO 15 years ago and have taken all of our pets to Lake Grove Vet. Our dog Zeke starts jumping up and down in the car when he realizes we are going to doggy day care at the vet’s. The care and concern from all the staff is beyond amazing. We have had surgeries (teeth, eye lid, ACL replacement) and many of the typical dog and cat issues that crop up. All were completed with no issues. Besides knowing my two dogs are in good hands (lots of hand holding for animal parents) I like just visiting with all the support staff who are warm, funny, and knowledgeable. A Great Place.

Good customer service makes for loyal customers, I have been taking all of my beloved pets to LGVC for more than 15 years and I couldn’t imagine taking them anywhere else. They truly have a love for pets.
We have gone in for simple check ups and shots to emergency trips for my aging jack and boarding while we are on vacation. They are compassionate and know how our dear family pets mean the world to us!

It’s about time I left a review for this place, as the negative ones are so upsetting. Remember, happy clients rarely go out of their way to leave a review, and this place has many. We’ve been bringing our two dogs here for about 8 years, and I have never received such compassionate and educated care from any other clinic. Dr. Weikum is my go-​to guy for everything. He is always comforting and reassuring, and he goes out of his way to make sure I understand what’s happening. It’s so nice to be able to comprehend my options and the consequences. Is it the cheapest clinic around? I don’t know, probably not, but is the cheapest care what you’d really want for your babies? With all of the bad experiences we’ve had at chain clinics, I’m more than willing to pay a bit extra for quality care. One of my dogs, after being treated there VERY frequently in the last 2 years, still wags her tail when we arrive. Dr. Creech and Dr. Harvey are amazing as well, and Dr. Creech even offers holistic care and acupuncture. The techs are great too, and I can tell everyone there genuinely cares about the welfare of my pets. I have been allowed to hang out in back to support my sickies, I’ve been able to save money through frequent email communication, they’ve recommended other pharmacies to save us costs, and there has never been an issue with squeezing us in whenever we need anything at all. We even tried experimental treatments (nothing crazy) when the illnesses don’t fit the standard. I won’t take my babies anywhere else, and you shouldn’t either. Dr. Weikum, you better not ever retire! Your track record with my little ones deserves a gold medal.

Every Employee and Dr have been super super sweet to my Kitty and me at every single visit!!! My cat gets treated like she’s the most amazing thing EVERY time. On the phone and in person the staff rocks. We’ve been coming here for 6years. I really wanted to emphasize this, because I can be difficult. It’s true.
I’m really liking their social media connection too. They post coyote sightings and recalled pet food notices on their Facebook and send emails as well. Both very useful to me.
Dr Weikum is the vet I’ve seen the most and REALLY like him. Colby and Lindsay are my favorite techs, but they’re all great.

If you love your pet… DO NOT take them here. BAD BAD BAD service. Very snooty!!! My vet left this office without notice. We were not informed until arriving for an appointment. Office staff were nasty when we insisted that we would not need the appointment and we were told we would have to pay for the office visit. Then were blown off so the 3 offce staff could socialize with other patients/​friends,

We have 4 animals this veterinary clinic has serviced for the last 10 years. I am a long time resident of LO and want to keep my care and patronage local. Our cat was there 4 days ago to get a med to help his blood clotting. Sadly he passed away 4 days ago. We just paid $ 100 for a med that would help his ailment. Upon his passing we asked if we could return the med so others could use it or even give it to them, we were told no. This we understand… to a point.
The worst part is we had to have him put down in the wee hours of the morning at another clinic in Tualatin close by. This clinic notified Lake Grove Veterinary of his passing as this was his primary care provider for the last decade. Again I have 4 animals that this clinic has serviced and they know us rather well becuase of this. We recieved no condolences, no help, and as said before, no refund. It is obvious this establishment cares nothing of the animals they claim to take care of. Furthermore they care nothing of the clients they rely upon. A simple refund or card would have prevented me taking time to let others know of how rude this clinic, or shal I say, «money machine» truly is. These folks are here to help, not use… I feel used, for the last 10 years I feel USED! Aviod this establishment if you want care, if you want a cold shoulder and half rate service then this is the place for you… just be sure to bring your checkbook!
For a clinic to provide care they have forgotten what care truly is. I hope this awakens them and any others that read this.

RUN don’t walk as far from these unscrupulous, unprofessional manipulative vets as you can as quickly as you can.
It has been a while since our dog was sick and died. It happens and no vet could have really stopped that. That’s not the issue. She had Congestive Heart Failure, the vets at Lake Grove guilted and shamed my wife into $ 500 plus of tests, which they never completed as the dog died overnight. Did you catch that within ten hours the dog was dead. They NEVER did the tests. Did they refund the money, or give us the results… of course not.
They should have given the pet the $ 2 worth of Ace inhibitors/​diuretic and said, «let’s see if this works, but it doesn’t look good.» it was patently obvious to even a non-​professional this was the prudent path. (13 year old dog)
We love Crossroads in Sherwood… honest, scrupulous, reasonable, professional and compassionate. Lake Grove vets were none of these.
If you love your pets… stay away.

There isn’t anything as important as knowing your loved ones are safe while you’re out of town. I’ve been using this vet clinic for all of my dog’s services since she was a pup. Now she’s our sweet granny dog.
What I really like is that this is a full service clinic. We use them for annual check-​ups, vaccinations, ID chip implant, surgical procedures (dogs aren’t cheap) and boarding when we are out of town.
The people are great and we haven’t had any bad experiences during all these years. The only thing I wish they would change is to also be open on Sunday for pick-​ups. Usually you return home from a trip on a Sunday, but can’t pick up your pet until Monday morning. Although this latest trip they were open until 7:00p and actually waited a little extra when we were running late from the airport and called and asked if they were still open.
