Eyes of Oregon — Lake Oswego office — purchased the optometry business of Dr. Omar Noles in the summer of 2012. Owners are Dr. David and Dr. Sarah Biggar, O.D.‘s. Our satellite office is located in Tillamook, formerly owned by the late Dr. Edward Mallett.

Business Owner

Dr. David Biggar grew up in Phoenix, Arizona, and attended Arizona State University for mechanical engineering. Wanting to experience living in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, he transferred to Portland State University, completing pre-​med courses, and in 2002 entered Pacific University College of Optometry in Forest Grove, Oregon.

Dr. Biggar’s clinical experience is extensive. During his internships, he was able to focus on a wide variety of healthcare modalities, including a private practice in Arizona, a large group medical eye care practice in Nevada, and Tripler VA Hospital in Honolulu, Hawaii. Upon becoming licensed as an optometrist in 2006, Dr. Biggar again selected modalities that would add experience to his patient care skills, including working in a medical/​cornea based practice, a small town private practice, and well established commercial eye centers. His practice modalitiy of choice is private practice, which has brought about the birth of Eyes of Oregon.

My husband and I went to Eyes of Oregon about a month ago for an eye exam and glasses, the staff was helpful and very friendly. I have perviously worked in optical myself and understand the pricing of items and was not in shock when frames and lenses cost us a decent amount of money (due to paying out of pocket and not using insurance), once my husband’s glasses arrived we went back for a fitting and the woman dispensing glasses took her time and made sure the fit was correct before we left. All and all we were very pleased with our experience and would recommend them to friends and family.

Buyer beware this shop is a high end glasses boutique, with significantly higher mark-​ups than most other optometry offices. We bought a Groupon coupon for this company; we paid $ 59 for $ 200 credit towards frames and lenses, no eye exam. This looked good to me as I’ve always wanted a prescription pair of reading glasses rather than the cheap cheaters.
I went in and asked for the least expensive frames they have, with no frills on the lenses, and wanted the simple near vision part of my prescription put in the lenses, The woman pushed back pretty much insisting that the glasses would be of nor real use if I didn’t spring for the no-​glare, and polycarbonate lens features. Even after I said I didn’t want those things she wrote both down on the quote anyway.
Their cheapest frames are $ 165, ($ 100 more than most places), they charge over $ 100 for each add-​on she included, (which are $ 43 and $ 29 other places), so I’m looking at some significant money before even talking about getting the glasses made! They quoted me $ 465 for a simple pair of no frill reading glasses. This is more than the price of my full progressive lenses with some add-​ons at another shop.
In my experience they mark up the price so steeply they still make a tidy profit even when they offer a $ 59 for $ 200 store credit. Since i just bought it I was able to cancel my Groupon for this place, but want to warn other unsuspecting consumers.

I set an appointment for a basic contact lens fitting for which I thought I was going to pay $ 150. When I arrived for my appointment I double checked the cost and suddenly I was asked to pay nearly $ 400 because I also needed to pay for an «eye exam». Classic bait and switch. I left of course, and would not recommend this place to anyone. It’s a shame too, because one of the gals in my office was going to go if it worked out for me. I wasted my time and Eyes of Oregon lost 2 customers, plus any future referrals.
