Steak ‘n Shake

The service was okay. The food was also okay. The cleanliness of entire place was horrible. Dirty floors and bathroom had a strong smell of urine. Gang graffiti, profanity, and male genitalia drawn on empty picture frame above urinal. So much for family friendly just don’t use the restroom the graffiti was old too and was written over and over again. Not a lot of pride and ownership at this location.

If I could give this place zero stars I so would! They basically took five dollars from me. I went through the drive thru waited 15 minutes for someone to take my order then after placing it I paid and they told me to wait in the parking lot 20 minutes go by still no food I go in with my receipt and waited 10 minutes for someone to come to the counter and no one did so I left and called them on the phone asking for the manager I got the manager and I was explaining what happened and they didn’t seem to have a care in the world. I never saw my five bucks again. Crappy service!!! Never going back!

Food service was okay… My fries were cold and chewy. Not only that, but my waitress looked like she was breaking so many dress/​health code rules so I do not know how she was hired. I was petrified that a maggot would fall out of her dreads! ALSO foul language music was playing in the back that I could hear while eating my meal with my friend. I will now only come through drive through!

Ok, we have tried many times to support this location and continue to be disappointed with the food and service. It took an extremely long time to get our order. My daughter ordered the two mini cheese burgers meal and one of the patties was about 1 by three inches. Asked for a new one and it took twenty minutes. We are done and won’t be back. This location used to be good.

Oh Steak and Shake… your food and shakes are good but this location… needs major rehab.
It makes me sad. I’ve been to plenty of Steak & Shakes, it’s a family favorite. But my Lord — do they need help with customer service. I’ve been to this one a handful of times. It is the same thing over and over.
The poor staff look so unhappy and it looks like they hate their job. No personalities, no manners, nothing. I watch how other servers treat their customers and I couldn’t believe it. I truly think management is to blame. They need to get a whole new line up of management and staff, otherwise this place will continue to go downhill.
There are always dirty tables even when its slow… drive thru is slow as well. They need to work together.

Arrived at the drive-​thru 3:45 AM this morning. Henry provided excellent customer service on the phone before I arrived and again at the restaurant. Food preparation was as expected.
Good food, including breakfast; especially enjoyed the Cherry Limeaid. Very satisfied.

Customer service is horrible. They need to hire some people that want to work and don’t hate their job. Food is mediocre and cold. Literally 99 percent of the staff has a beyond terrible attitude. Giving them 1 star because their shakes are good, but customer service is so bad, Won’t return.

Wanted a quick and tasty lunch to go. Got my double steakburger meal with fries, coleslaw, and a chocolate shake @ about 1:30pm on a Saturday afternoon from the drive thru. I live less than 10 minutes away. Got home to eat and was extremely disappointed. Steakburger was plain and messily put together, but it was the best part of the meal. The fries looked and tasted old/​stale. There’s no way they got that way on my drive home. The coleslaw was horribly old with almost brown cabbage. It was soggy and old, like it was made days ago. I was thoroughly disappointed at this point and figured the shake would make up for it. Unfortunately, the shake had a bunch of chunks of freezer burnt ice in it making it taste like old ice cream was used. I should have read reviews before going. I will never again eat at this restaurant.

Corporate office should be aware of this location. Went for breakfast this a.m. Place only had six other people in restaurant, were seated at dirty table. Placemats and utensils on table, but never wiped down previously. Had egg yolk and crumbs on table, we asked waitress to please wipe down table. After 15 minutes we moved to another table. Both ordered skillet breakfasts the country and portobello, when served the eggs seemed rubbery and dry like made hours before. My wife and I ate only a few bites to discover these skillets were terrible. I also got a toasted bagel with my meal. I asked waitress for cream cheese, never brought. When we went to pay noticed grills were filthy and work area had food sitting on work areas, counters looked not wiped down.
Had coupon to use, scanner did not work, so waitress got manager out of back. She walked up to register looking mad and still chewing whatever she was eating. Never even looked at us or asked if everything OK. Overall this is a really BAD Stake and Shake location. We go to many others downstate and in Hoffman Estates and always had good experience. However After seeing the condition of grill and my upset stomach, I am rethinking stopping at another Steak and Shake again.

The late night drive thru is so bad, the last 3 times they got my order wrong. On top of that it looked like they just tossed my food in the bag. And ALL 3 times it was the same GUY at the window. Next time I won’t be nice

Unbelievably bad! Took family of 15 there for a birthday celebration. Waitress was poorly trained and got our orders wrong. It took FOREVER for them to bring the milkshakes. The quality of the food has gone down hill since our last visit. To top it off, we were told that they were“out of cheese, chili, baked beans, and sliders! How does a restaurant like this stay in business? We’ve been enjoying this chain for 50 years! Not anymore. Culvers from now on.

Came here on a slow Wednesday night at 7:00 p. m with my husband and kids. Food was good. Waitress seemed nice at first and then after delivering our food, she completely disappeared.
When we were finished, we sat and waited for the receipt for 20 minutes.
I finally flagged her down and asked for it.
She told me she would bring it out to us and another 10 minutes passed.
I finally walked up to the the counter and paid the bill with a different worker because it was a school night for the kids and we couldn’t wait any longer.
Aside from the service, food was good. We will come back, but only hit the drive thru from now on.

Pros: We received awesome customer service here. The waitress was super nice and made some really good suggestions for us. Food was good and the milkshakes were great!
Cons:
I didn’t like seating area, but it’s not like the restaurant can really do anything about that. It seemed like it could’ve been a little cleaner.

The shakes are good. this place should still to shakes and they might have better reviews. If I’m feeling just a dessert and feel like drinking it, maybe I’ll stop it.
But the food, yuck! It’s soo dry and the fries are so thin thst there’s nothing left of them.

Just your typical Steak n’ Shake. Nothing special. I came here today for a half price shake not realizing by only ran the happy hour special on weekdays now. I guess it has been a while since I came here. I ordered a $ 4 burger and fries meal and chocolate shake with fresh banana. My only complaint was that they didn’t blend the banana well which left me with large chunks of banana that were left on the bottom. I love the skinny fries and I always add e seasoned salt that is in the table. There is no point to upgrading to seasoned fries when they have it right in the table. My major complaint about this location is that it is always dirty when you dine in. I would rather «hold it» then use the filthy bathrooms here. They are bad enough to make you loose your appetite.

I was legit sitting there without a waitress for half an hour. We had to ASK FOR A WAITER in order to get one. Horrible Customer service!!! Btw: BEWARE RIAHANN P! Bad waitress

I would not give this place even one star they were really given Steak ‘n Shake a really bad name
We were there Fourth of July and they weren’t busy we had just left a concert in Elgin because were not from Chicago but we know Steak ‘n Shake is always good but last night we get there at 12:15 and but the cute kid sate us right away and asked how he could help us I said I wanted coffee and ice water and bob wanted Pepsi and he said they only have coke products so he got a tea and he said to me the coffee machines been acting up but he’ll try to make some but he wouldn’t garentee it so I said alright l have a shake even though I don’t usually go for shakes but this was so bad and they couldn’t do anything to make it right they said we didn’t have to pay for it which wasn’t o problem since we had no food to eat or take homef

Only two stars because the server was really friendly!
But this place is SLOWWWWWWWWWWWW
like awesome that this place is ²⁴⁄₇. great.
But literally please pay more attention to the people in the dining area.

This is the only late night option in the area, and that’s too bad.
The menu is traditional burgers, fries, chili, and milkshakes. On a good night, these items are prepared well and the quality is decent. Most of the time, however, the quality at this location is below average. The only exception is the fries, which always seem to come out crispy and hot… and the shakes too, which are prepared nicely and are full of sweet flavor.
The drive-​thru is consistently slow and the service there is snotty. Inside, the service is not much better. I always have to flag a server down to get a refill on my drink. It always feels understaffed.
The ambience is supposed to be a social, old school diner, but the novelty wears out quickly.
The only reason I didn’t go with 1 star is because I still go to the drive-​thru once in a while for a late night shake. Also, the $ 4 menu is good for a cheap bite.

Women’ bathroom was dingy and had a strange odor.
Didn’t bring us placemats or silverware. We had to ask for them.
Waited forever for 3 adult and 2 kids meals and 3 ½ shakes.
Shakes came out first. But waitress didn’t notice my empty diet coke and now has disappeared.
No hats of cars for the kids.
Food finally came. It’s great.
Waitress rarely checked on us. Had to flag her down to get Togo boxes and our finished plates were never cleared.
Just not the service we usually get here.
