Best meats in the McHenry County area. The brats are amazing and the fresh cuts of meat are all prime cuts. New staff is very friendly and helpful. Weekly email announces specials that are hard to beat.
Also makes sandwiches to order, fresh soups. Everything you would need for a complete meal is available here.

I have only purchased their sandwiches, but they are amazing. If you order the 12 inch sub you get 2 massive 6 inch subs for around $ 8.00. I have tried multiple sandwiches are they are very good. In case you are wondering there is no seating there.

This place is the best, friendly owners and staff and the meats are top of the line. Brats are kick ass, meats are well trimmed and very fairly priced. I recommend getting on the mailing list for specials.

Like this place but extremely expensive. Good handmade sausages. Family ran which is neat.

«Our apologies up front if you ever felt like we are trying to over charge our customers. We want to be as fair as possible with our customers. After reading your review, we have analyzed our marinating program and we now weigh up the meat separately and then charge $ 2.50 flat rate if you want your meat marinated with 4 oz. of marinade. I hope you will give us a try again as we never want our customers to think we are over-​charging them. We take our customers opinion to heart and always try our best to make things right.»

On a random Monday night, I decided to stop at Butcher on the Block to pick up a few bones for my dog. I got there about 30 minutes after they closed and the kind staff opened their doors for me! Although they were out of the dog bones, they took down my name and number and told me they would call when they got more in. They were the kindest and most accommodating employees (even after closing time!)
Even my dog loves the place :)

Amazing brats, delicious selections of meat, and yummy side dishes! You cannot go wrong with anything you get at BOTB! If your looking for an appatizer go for their stuffed mushroomsSO GOOD. I love treating my family to a BOTB meal. Anything you get there is better than going out to any returaunt around here!

Whoever wrote that the owner wasn’t very nice is right on. The sub was decent and seeing how we live close, we would have made our way back but not now. He was very rude. It definitely was a chore to serve us. Just too bad…

My coworker introduced me to this place when our office moved to Huntley. They have the best sandwiches and soups. Thinking of the food I have tried is making me drool (lol). The place is small but their selection of meat is good.
I have tried the turkey & fresh mozzarella melt sandwich and it was beyond words, perfect for a cold day as it is served warm. Their Italian beef is perfect along with the mushroom and Brie bisque soup. If you come here for lunch or meat purchases you will not be disappointed! :)

I love going to this place. Their selection of meat… both frozen and fresh is just awesome. The food has always been good and will continue to go back. You just don’t find places like this anymore.

Bought your precooked jalapeño and cheddar brats at meijer. Very tasty but there were bone fragments in one of them. Thought I chipped a tooth!

Not impressed. Not much taste and a bit pricey which I wouldn’t mind if it was good. Costco has better tasting meat. Won’t be back

They are open Super Bowl Sunday till 4!!! I may be back … My first visit was a thrill… I now know why they are legendary!!!

This was my first time getting meats from here — I usually go to a butcher elsewhere but I wanted to try to find somewhere closer to home. I called in my order of a beef brisket and three slabs of St. Louis cut ribs on Monday of this past week for pickup on Friday morning. (I was having a cookout on Saturday and needed time for my rubs to make everything ‘happy’.) I asked if there was a particular time to get my order and I was told I could come anytime — I followed up saying I’d be there around noon– they took my name and cell number to confirm the order.
Flash forward to Friday, I stopped nearby to do all the rest of my shopping for the party and drove over here to quickly pick up my order at 12:15. I got in and the person behind the counter told me that my brisket was ready but that the delivery truck hadn’t shown up with the ribs yet. I responded, asking why they didn’t call me — that I drove there all the way from Dundee. He apologized, then told me he’d check again to see if the truck had arrived.
This is where the visit went downhill… there is not separation from the meat counter all the way to the back of the shop, so I saw him look out the back door and then speak with someone else before going into the cooler, brought out a bag, took some ribs out of it and put them into a separate bag which he brought up to the counter, told me the truck just came in, quickly placed on the scale and almost immediately pulled off to wrap them in paper.
When I saw them briefly on the scale, I thought the ribs looked small and asked to see them. He pulled out a section of ribs that were cut in half across the slabs, leaving the rib length at about three inches. I told him that wasn’t acceptable — that I had ordered three full slabs of St. Louis cut ribs, and that those must have been someone else’s order. He said that they weren’t, and pulled out another of the ‘mini-​slabs’ out of the bag and tried to tell me that that’s how they received them and showed me that «put together» the mini slabs equal a big slab.
Again I told him that is not what I ordered and said if the truck did truly come just now, there should be more ribs on it seeing that it would be their delivery for the weekend. He then told me that the ribs he had was all that they ordered for the weekend.
I told him that he could keep the ribs, they were not what I had ordered and I was unhappy with them. I then asked to get a pork shoulder instead and have that along with my brisket.
Everything cooked up well at my cookout and was delicious, but the fact that the employee lied to me about the truck ‘just arriving’ and instead pulling out (what I consider to be) a substandard product compared to what I ordered, and then proceeded to try to convince me that it was what I had ordered is what caused this two star rating.
I don’t care how good your product may or may not be, but DO NOT LIE to customers — especially when they can see your actions and know you are trying to cover your tracks. I WILL NOT BE BACK.
