Split Rock Resort

Water park is pretty good for being all indoors. Good food and great staff members. Lots of different things to do here for a weekend trip maybe not for a whole week though unless you want to repeat. Everything seems well maintained and clean. Good family atmosphere.

Took my kids for a short vacation here for New Year and was very disappointed. Was there for early checkin but no room available and was told they would call me when it was ready. Till 4:30pm still received no call so I was at the reception to follow up. Meanwhile, they told me that it was ready but they didn’t bother calling me. When we got to the room, it was totally no cleaned. House cleaning never clean the room and it was a mess. It was very frustrating since my kids was water from the indoor water park and had to go back out to drive back to the reception to get room change. They give us another room but that was it Oh, extended our checkout time till noon and that was it. Would not go back or recommend any of my friends that has kids to go there.

I bought a Groupon for this place and I was very hesitant because of the bad reviews I saw on here. Walking in I was impressed it looked nice, and felt comfortable.
The check in was fairly quick and we stayed in the slope side rooms. It was clean a bit out dated but still nice.
We immediately went to check things out it was nice tons of activities! Especially for a group of people in their 20’s.
The only bad thing I have to say is the Waterpark was super cold! Even the hot tub was cold. We asked the supervisor and they said they had to drain the pool the night before and it takes awhile for things to heat up. We stayed for an additional 2 hours and the temperature really didn’t go up any. It was on the smaller side, it was more geared toward younger children. It didn’t keep our attention for too long, but there are plenty of other things to do in the resort to keep my group entertained.
Overall I had a good time, and would recommend.

DON’T STAY HERE!!! We walked in and waited to check at the front desk for 20 minutes. Then we find out that their website was wrong saying that the indoor water park would be open the following day from 10 – 6 when really it was from 12 – 6. We had to check out of our room at 11, so what were we supposed to do, stand out in the 30 degree weather in our bathing suits for an hour?! We left immediately and went to Kalahari a few miles away and had an AWESOME time. Definitely suggest going to Kalahari or Camelback.
For the owner of this dump; you need to step up your game. There’s a lot of competition in the Poconos for indoor water park resorts, and you guys are losing badly. You should send people to places like Kalahari and Camelback to see why they are so much better. You guys should at least get rid of the $ 1 toll when coming in. What that even for???

Stayed here for 3 nights as a party of 6 people (actually still here as I write this) over Thanksgiving weekend. It was awful.
1) The other reviews are correct, everything is outdated, from the carpets to the furniture to the appliances. The gym equipment was very old and the electronic machines finicky; it seemed like it had been purchased from a thrift store or something, rust on the weight machines and exercise bikes from the 70s.
2) The wifi is terrible, we were wifi-​less the entire weekend. The signal is extremely weak and your device may occasionally connect, but it always disconnects within minutes and is very slow when it does work. We basically gave up and just used our Verizon data.
3) The customer service is not the best, and is actually what spurred me to write this review. We went to the pool last night and they were out of pool towels. No problem, we used our rooms bath towels, figuring we could just exchange them today. Nope, there is no towel exchange service provided on the weekends. I called the front desk and they said they would bring us clean towels. It’s been 3 hours. I’d like to shower please. I called back twice and the front desk rather rudely told me I needed to give the staff time… I did. It’s been 3 hours. Still waiting on towels as I write this.
4) They’re super cheap, and it shows. When we first arrived in our rooms one of the bathrooms had ¹⁄₃ roll of toilet paper left, with no replacements. The other bathroom had ½ roll left but did have a replacement. We’re out now. I asked for that the same time I called for towels, 3 hours ago, haven’t received it yet. Also the sponge they give you to wash dishes is a full size sponge that has been physically cut in half… which is fine, I understand, but just know that it looks pretty bad.
Anyway, won’t stay here again, won’t recommend it. I understand it’s under new management and am trying to cut it some slack, as renovating and updating everything is obviously quite an undertaking, but they could certainly improve the wifi and hire more staff to accommodate room requests.
Still waiting on towels and going to the lobby to pee since they won’t bring us any toilet paper.

Let’s start with the «group rates department». Sadly, my family must book a weekend at this facility once a year for a martial arts organization of which we are members. Each year, we must call the aforementioned «group rates department» to book a room. The «group rates department» is an elusive beast. I don’t think they really exist. One thing is certain; they never return phone calls.
So typically, we end up booking the standard, HIGHLY inflated standard rates, out of sheer frustration. Nice, huh?
Now; the front desk. The employees seem sad, and I feel sad for them. Nice way to start, and finish, a visit.
Facilities are outdated and worn.
The hide-​a-​bed is more aptly described as a bed of nails. Ancient, rusty springs in the flapjack-​thin mattress yearning for freedom, stabbing you relentlessly as you try to sleep.
Now, the fun part. Apparently they were recently bought out, and underwent renovations. As such, added to the HIGHLY inflated room rate is a $ 50 reservation fee. A $ 50 reservation fee you ask? What ever can that be?
Simply, it’s a gift from the new owners to shaft you just a littttle bit more, so they can realize profits more quickly than they should following their renovations.
Oh, and don’t forget the crypt-​keeper waiting at the security booth to collect the $ 1.00 toll every single time you enter the facility.
I’m dreading staying here in a few weeks.

Stayed at the Galleria (main lodge) in the Slope Side Suites.
I found this hotel through groupon at a great price for a weekend getaway. At first, I was kind of hesitant because the resort seemed more geared towards kids than 21 year olds. However, this resort had something for all ages and we ended up having a lot of fun.
Like all the other comments suggest… the resort is very outdated. From the décor, the dishwasher, to the televisions and arcade, this resort seems like it’s stuck in the 80’s. That aside, what we loved was that there was so much to do we didn’t leave the resort the first day. The amenities aren’t great — this place is no Ritz or Hilton but for the price and the friendly people, it was very worth it. Additionally, we got hotel credit with our groupon and put that towards dinner at the Slopeside grill. Great lobster mac!

We stayed at Galleria at Split Rock. We were very disappointed. Our room was VERY dated. Appliances were old. It wasn’t very clean. The bed was awful, very uncomfortable!
The people were friendly.

This place is really outdated. Walking into the main bulding and reception area felt like we were stepping back into the 70s. It was dark and not inviting. We were booked to stay for two nights but left after the first night.

When we drove into the park area, we were relieved that it was much bigger and nicer than we read on reviews. But dah… @@ Too early to feel that way @@ I am adding here my own experience with the front desk.
We arrived at 1 pm. The front desk told us the check in time is 4 pm and they would call us when room is ready, which is around 4 pm. Alrighty… first time in my life a hotel is so strict about check in time. But yes, a rule is a rule. Luckily we found the beach and playground to kill the three hours.
4 pm… no call… we checked back in the front desk. They said housekeeping hasn’t called them back! Since we had the all day waterpark pass, they said we could use it and just tell the waterpark guard we were hotel guests. So I ran the kids to the waterpark, only to find out that the front desk was supposed to give us a pass. We ran back again… and since we missed four hours that day, we asked for sometime for the next day. NOPE… but we can use it the next day. So we put our kids to the free hotel pool and save the pass for the next day.
When they finally got hold of them at 4:30, we got to check in at 4:45! And mind you… all these time the front desk were not very nice. They certainly need training and top of all, coordination between housekeeping and front desk.
I spent this long to type up our first encounter with Split Rock. ALL frustration… and long… The Willowbrook was very nice though but by that time, we were exhausted, esp kids were telling me the pool had a funny smell.
Okay… to be fair… the Willowbrook suite was very nice. Dated but clean. Old utensils, carpet, TVs, phones… but clean. So the stay inside the suite was passable.
Other stuff you can basically take the reviews word to word… Will I stay again? I will try out other places first.

Riddle me this Batman: which of these is not like the other? Omni Bedford Springs Resort, Nemacolin Woodlands Resort & Spa and Split Rock Resort. If you guessed Split Rock you win! The other two are known for luxury, quality service, and top-​class amenities. As for Split Rock, not so much.
Where do I start?
The ridiculously overpriced Slopeside Suite room I paid over 300 dollars for that MIGHT have been updated from the 70’s to it’s classic mid 80’s décor? (all the rooms were jacked up in price because the Pennsylvania Blues Festival was being held on their grounds) Mauve with dusty Blue in color, this room was easily thirty year’s past its prime. The stove and dishwasher looked ancient. I was afraid to turn on the television for the fear that I might be stuck like Groundhog Day watching Alf, Miami Vice, the now creepy Cosby Show and Family Ties.
Or how about the fact someone STOLE my prescription glasses that I had placed on my shirt while I went in for a swim with my girlfriend? Lost and found took time to check because the one person who had the keys decided to not come in (eventually they were able to find someone to look who found nothing). Nancy, the Revenue Manager, explained that if they aren’t found THE HOTEL IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR GUESTS WHO STEAL OTHER GUEST’S PROPERTY. I imagine that happens quite often. Guess what Nancy, there will be ZERO revenue coming again from EVERY PERSON I KNOW who asks about your facility.
I am giving ONE star to Ritchie of Security who made it his mission to find my glasses. He called me two hours after we checked out to say he found them in the Water Park Lost and Found.
Can’t forget to mention we jumped out of the pool after hearing a little boy explain to his Dad he just peed in it.
We considered eating dinner there but the idea of a cafeteria style buffet with a small number of choices was unappealing.
The overall facilities are beat. I have trouble believing the main lobby was renovated. This is a resort for someone who has no idea what a resort is really all about. It’s almost hilarious it has the audacity to call itself a resort (like a store that calls itself an outlet so people shop there).
How about the dollar toll you have to pay every time you drive in on Moseywood Drive? I have NEVER paid a fee just to drive up to the place I am staying, not to mention spending 300 dollars for one night?

We stayed here the 1^st week of August, 2015.
The disappointment began at the front gate, when the security guard told us that there was a $ 1 charge for entry. Even with a week long townhouse reservation, they collect $ 1 every time you enter the front gate. That pretty much set the tone for the entire week.
The main Hotel is called the GALLERIA. The common areas are seriously dated and antiquated. We’re glad that we stayed in the WILLOWBROOK Timeshare Townhouses.
GALLERIA Amenities:
The 8 lane bowling alley is a joke and very dated.
The movie theater is small and does not show first run films.
They hold BINGO games as a source of raising money. All of the collected monies are not returned as prizes. Most monies are skimmed as profits for the company like on a cruise ship.
We stayed in the WILLOWBROOK timeshare accommodations.
The unit was in need of some minor maintenance and remodeling.
The kitchen had minimal cooking supplies. No cookie sheets.
The furnishings are like my grandparents house.
You can exchange towels daily in the 1^st floor housekeeping closet.
The toilet in our unit clogged every time a solid was flushed. We had to have maintenance snaked it, to clear the sludge out of the pipes to stop the back ups.
The unit had a damaged lockset on the bathroom pocket door to the master bedroom door, that prevented it from completely closing.
A few of the light bulbs were burned out. How hard is it for housekeeping to check all of the lights when they turn over a unit?
PROS:
Close to lots of off site activities, Lehigh Valley and coal mining history.
90 minutes to Philadelphia and tons of American History.
45 minutes to the Camel Beach Waterpark (at Camelback Resort) — AWESOME and FUN !
Free WIFI — not silicon valley fast, but functional and free.
Walmart is only 15 miles away with a complete grocery, beer and wine.
Large jacuzzi tub in bathroom (cheezy ceramic tile surround).
Kitchen, so you can cook you own meals, keep wine & beer chilled and ice cream at the ready.
Microwave for popcorn and snacks.
Outdoor bbq’s require briquets (no propane bbq’s).
5 miles form the Jack Frost Ski Resort (when in season)
CONS:
The main hotel is in need of serious updating and remodeling.
The common areas and hallways smelled like a couch in a fraternity house. The carpets needs to be shampooed to rid them of the odors.
The hide-​a-​bed is TERRIBLE. The springs push up through the flimsy and thin mattress.
Housekeeping is provided ONCE PER WEEK — AT AN ADDITIONAL COST.
No business center, fax machine or computer printer available for use.
On-​site indoor waterpark is for young children and pre-​teens only. Teenagers and adults will get tired of it very quickly.
Lack of housekeeping services in townhouses, means that toilet paper and paper towels run out quickly.
No change of bed sheets or linens. That’s one thing that I look forward to when on vacation — fresh towels daily and crisp sheets every few days.
Units can use more and brighter lighting — I know about energy costs, but they are dimly lit.
No LARGE flat screen TV in living room.
No hardwired GB ethernet outlets.
No phone in the bedroom (we faintly heard it ring from the next room)
Resort directional signs, building signs and addresses are not reflective and difficult to see at night.
Management needs to get their act together, properly train the staff, and to begin remodeling the hotel and accommodations.
OVERALL IMPRESSION — Adequate, but not up to the standards of our home Marriott Timeshare.

1) when I called to confirm my room I asked for one that does not require steps. Ours not only required steps, but we had to walk up one flight and down two flights to get to the room. Yes, I am not kidding. I don’t know who designed this place, but he must have had a screw loose.
2) we were there for a blues festival, and the lodge night club had a very loud and young cover band. Who is making the plans for this place, how dumb is that? Also, they have a lovely outside sand bar where we were looking forward to sitting and having a drink into the evening, well guess what? They closed at 8:30. By the time we changed our clothes and came back, they were closed. Why? because they wanted everyone to sit inside with the crappy band. We had to leave the premises in search of a blues bar.
3)Getting up the next morning, really needing some coffee, there is NONE. The little café I saw the night before is not open, the attached restaurant is not open, there is none in the lobby for guests, we could go a mile up the hill to the galleria, they had coffee, not the lodge.
4) no room wifi.
The shower was drippy, old, and the drain looked a little skeevy. I usually take a bath, if the tub looks clean, but this tub had the drain stopper unattached and laying on the side of the tub, looked rusty and gunky. The tub was slow draining, so while you take your shower, you are standing in your dirty soap water. gross!
Other than the above, we liked the room, it looked out over the lake, pretty.

The worst customer service I’ve ever experienced. The place is disorganized and the management staff are idiots
The only person that had any customer service skills was Divina, a server at the grill.

WOW. where do I start?
The Good– The Lodge by the lake outdated but nice the views are real nice I recommend if you must stay here be sure to get your room here too. That and the small indoor water park are about the only good thing about the entire place.
Bad– GHETTO x 10 the Main building (The Galleria) where the water park connects is sub par or worse. The staff seems miserable and several of them openly spoke about how bad management is. Even folks off grounds spoke of this. The $ 10.oo buffet was ok. The hours of business with a packed hotel is a joke. Don’e expect any food after 10pm all closed.
Worse– Booking mismanaged us soo badly. When we booked the stay we said we only wanted to come if we had a Lakeview at the Lodge by the Lake with 2 queen beds as we are family of 4. Not only did we not get by the Lake but we got 1 king bed. Then we were told after our 3 hour drive there that they were booked solid sorry no rooms for us by Lake. We had to aggressively go down to Lake lodge and talk to the staff to find out that actually there were some rooms so after exposing the truth we managed to get a room in the Lodge but still no Lake view but away from the element and raunchy Galleria! Day 2 we saw empty Lake front rooms and along with some friendly staff (staff was nice by the way it was booking and management that were sour and incompetent) we settled for a Room with View King Bed and 2 cotts! Needless to say 1 and DONE! See ya.

Ohhh… Where to start.
We reserved adjoining rooms. Our rooms were not adjoining. It was clear that the staff were just moving rooms around regardless of commitments they made to guests at booking.
One of our rooms had hot water running to the toilet. I do not want to explain.
One room had a 42″ TV (these are large rooms with full kitchens). The other room (Same Size) had a 32″ TV showing the mounting plate (I am sure the original TV went bad — they did not replace it with the same size).
We just had the feeling they don’t care for a fairly new resort. Not sure if I will go back. We may find an alternative location for our trip.

I think this is as good as water parks get in the Poconos. Not that this was bad or anything. We only stayed for the water park, so note that this does not concern the rest of the resort.
There is a $ 1 toll to enter the area, but it’s probably for parking or something? I don’t know. The waterpark ticket is about $ 30 online, which isn’t bad for the whole day. Once entering, even at around 11 (it opens at 10am on Saturdays), it was pretty crowded. While you’re waiting on line, get a waiver form and sign it so you’ll be ready once you get to the front desk. The staff was pretty nice at the front desk but that was probably it.
Once you get inside, you can get a locker. The lockers work in a funny way. They cost $ 8 for a large (if you have a bookbag, you’ll definitely want to get a large. Our large was able to fit two jackets, two pairs of boots, two mini crossbody bags, and our bookbag) but it’s strange because you need to basically pay for the locker and enter your desired pin at two touch screen stations (I don’t know why there are only two for such a big resort) and if you want to open them again, you’ll have to wait on line and enter your pin to open your locker instead of going to your locker. Unfortunately, a lot of people struggled with this which made the wait a bit longer than usual, but it’s better than forgetting your key. They also let you keep the locker open all day, which is nice.
The water park itself is pretty nice. There is a tidal wave for «surfing» and a kiddie pool for toddlers and younger kids. There is also a pool that has an on and off wave effect which was really fun. It really reminded me of being on the beach in the deeper waters. They also have a lily pad pond to test your balance and a park that has body slides and a giant bucket that tumbles water. Also, let’s not forget the tubes protruding outside of the building — you can do single or double tubes in tubes that light up or a large family tube that goes down super quickly in a yellow slide.
The lifeguards really do pay attention but they all seem kind of upset with working there.
As the day progressed, it did start getting a bit rowdier and a bit more crowded, but it was still enjoyable. You’re also stuck with eating the food there (unless you go out and come back, which I’m not sure if you can do. Possibly if you have all-​day admission), which wasn’t the best or the worst. They aren’t too pricey either, it probably cost $ 8 for a hot dog, fries, and a bottle of Dasani.
Unfortunately, the showers and bathrooms and changing rooms get dirty. You have to understand, there is water everywhere but some of the showers had feces in them. It was really gross. Plus, you have to bring your own towels.
Overall fun experience, disregarding the lack of sanitation and rowdy crowd!

The most ghetto place in town! After being frequent guests of Great Wolf Lodge we decided to give this place a try. Wrong idea!
First when we are arrived we had to pay a $ 1.00 toll to enter the area? Then we arrived at the hotel and found out they are in the middle of renovations (greatly needed!). We had to walk across the whole place to find the place to check in.
The Galleria or main building is very dingy and old. Place looks and feels like a dump. Not to mention the old guy employer who came to bring the keys to the front desk clerk smelled like alcohol. Then we decided to go to the Pizzeria for a bite. Bad idea! I waited more than 45 minutes for a tossed salad with chicken. It was so «fun» watching the
guy in front of me verbally fighting with the cook (who came out of the kitchen for the event) after he waited forever for the order. He finally got his money back. The place didn’t even have napkins!
This place can’t even compare to the cleanliness and professionalism of Great Wolf Lodge and this will be the first and last time we ever place foot in this dump!

Came to split rock for a day trip with my husband and one year old. We had a fun day and found the resort to be clean and we’ll staffed. My daughter is still a little young but will probably be able to enjoy the park more in a year or so. I didnt see too many teenagers there, more toddlers and grade school kids. My little one did play at the entrance to the wave pool and in the kiddy fountains. My husband and I were happy that everyone seemed to be mindful that smaller children were around. There was no running or horseplay at all!
The park was a little expensive, but we saved a few bucks by booking online and using a coupon code.
The locker facilities were soaking wet all day and we had a hard time finding a place to sit and eat our lunch as people tend to occupy their chairs with towels and bags instead of behinds. We expected that though.
We did love that the lines weren’t long for the water slides, the place wasn’t packed to the brim even at capacity. We spent about 5 hours in the park, swimming, relaxing and lunching. We will probably come back in the future.

Small place, great for young kids. I would not recommend it if you or your party wants daring slides and adventure.
Come early and sign waiver before you get in. It’s best to purchase tickets ahead online. You may be able to search online for discount codes like we did.
They have a locker rentals for all day. $ 6 for small lockers and $ 8 for large.
My rating of 3 stars doesn’t include the hotel/​resort as we have only done the day admission.
