We checked in late yesterday to the Adventure Resorts of America — Lake George RV Resort and like most weary RV travelers we asked for recommendations to a few essential local services that we needed to visit in order to restock our depleted supplies. One such thing we needed was liquor… we had run out of California wine, and last nigh while a storm raged overhead, we actually ran out of our two favorite spirits — Vodka and Gin. Well, true to our word, we headed out to town to take care of some much needed business. As soon as we stocked up on the groceries and produce, we navigated across the parking lot to Gateway Wine & Liquor. This is perhaps one of the largest liquor stores we’ve been in since arriving in The Empire State 5 weeks ago. Wonderful selection of spirits. Where we really became impressed was their extensive library of wine. Asking for a recommendation on a specific varietal, the gentleman was very knowledgeable and able to offer a recommendation on a 92 point wine fur under $ 20. The store really was very beautiful. One of the things we like about New York is all of the rich history and the old buildings… the truth is they don’t all function as well as we’d like in today’s world — Gateway Wine & Liquor is a brand new building that was built specifically to be home to a wine and liquor store. Well done. For my California readers, you need to know a little bit about New York and their archaic liquor laws. First off, the only place to buy wine(over 6% alcohol) and spirits is in a liquor store. Liquor stores can not sell beer!!! For that matter, Liquor stores cannot even sell a candy bar or a magazine — nothing like California. There are a lot of differences between the two states and certainly there is a big difference in what a ‘Liquor Store” is to a Californian and a New Yorker. With all this being said, thank you ladies at Adventure Resorts of America for the great recommendations — Cheers, as I have found my favorite Liquor Store in the whole state of New York ;-)
