History

Established in 1980.

After middle linebacker Andy Sickmeier graduated from Stanford University, Andy and his wife Nancy headed back down to Southern California to start their own pest and termite control company, POW! Exterminating, Inc. and Bug Squad.

Believe it or not, being an entrepreneur started even earlier than that. Andy first became an entrepreneur at the tender age of 8 years old when he ran his own egg route around his neighborhood. Interestingly, his egg route was so successful that sometimes his mother borrowed money from Andy to pay the rent.

Andy and his wife Nancy Sickmeier are both from San Bernardino, CA. They met in the 3rd grade and started dating sophomore year of high school. Andy played football and basketball, while Nancy was head cheerleader. The high school sweethearts stayed together into college as Andy received a football scholarship from Stanford University.

After graduation, Andy and Nancy headed back down to Southern California to start their own pest and termite control company, POW! Exterminating, Inc. and Bug Squad. The company was established in 1980 and still going strong just like their marriage.

I’ve been using POW! Bug Squad for about 2 years now. We had termite droppings and a black and brown widow problem and the Bug Squad got rid of both. And no tenting needed for the termites! They are the best! Very courteous, very thorough and the best price! I highy reccommend this company. They are as good as it gets!

About ten years ago I noticed termites had infested an area in my Mission Viejo home. I asked a friend if he knew of a good termite service and he referred me to POW! Bug Squad. They came out fixed the problem quickly and inexpensively. They come out once a year for an annual service and we have not had any problems since. They are a family owned and operated local business that cares about their customers. They do every kind of pest not just termites. If you got critters now or just want to prevent them in the future give them a call you will not be disappointed.

Once again gave POW a call due to my roof leaking. I was super worried about having anyone walk on my tile roof and causing further damage. Andy came back out and gave me the game plan and a great price. Same day he had his guys on my roof fixing it. Super thankful to have a company I can trust available to me :)

Ants are our biggest problem. Our best buddies are there, multiplying and getting food at the slightest hint of sugar or food. Then we had some renovations done and the ant problem got even bigger. I found this company by searching for nearby pest control. So glad I did because they were able to come and give me an estimate on the work that I needed. Andy was very attentive to my concerns and provided me with useful ideas for the future. So far this winter I haven’t seen those pesky ants. Hallelujah!

I sold my house and had it tented for termites in the middle of 2015. My realtor said they would be paid from escrow. POW wanted to be paid now. That was fine and I paid them. Then they were paid a second time ($ 1900.00) from escrow on July 24th. When I called Nicole on 8−3−15 she said they didn’t get an escrow check and she would call me when they received it. No call. On 8−10−15 I called escrow and POW had cashed their check on 7−31−15. I called Nicole again. I finally received some of my money back but after 3 more calls to Nicole I am still waiting for the balance of $ 125. It is now 9−24−15. She won’t return my calls. Beyond poor service… they won’t return the balance of my money and I am tired of calling as it does no good… Nicole doesn’t care.

Beware of this Company! I spoke to the Owner, Andy, and explained that we needed Pest Control service for an ant problem. He quoted $ 120, which I agreed to pay. Years ago, we had a Gopher Problem. The gophers had not been a problem recently, but the holes they left were still there. Since we were planning to put in Artificial Turf, I asked the Owner to have a technician check out the holes that were left by the gophers, just to make sure there were no more gophers. We never discussed the price for treating Gophers, since I did not think we needed the treatment; I just wanted to confirm that the gophers were no longer there.
When the technician came, he began to spray the yard without knocking on the door and speaking to me. By the time he came to the door to let me know he was there and treat the house for the ants, he had already sprayed for Gophers and charged me additional $ 255. I paid a total $ 375, since he had already sprayed for Gophers. 2 – 3 days after they had sprayed for ants, the ants returned. I called them and Nicole answered and said that since their Technician was coming to spray for Second Round for Gophers the following Friday, she will have him spray for ants as well. When the Technician arrived, he had no idea that he was supposed to spray for ants, but he agreed to spray for ants also.
The ants were back again later that same day. So I called again and Nicole said that she would speak to Marc to set up traps and have the Technician come the following Friday but the Technician never came. I called the office that Friday to ask when the Technician was coming to spray for Ants. A man answered who told me Nicole was unavailable but he will have the Technician call me. No one ever called or showed up. The following Monday, I called and asked for Nicole but the man who answered said that she was unavailable and that he will have a Technician call me. Again No Called. At this point, the $ 120 service I requested has cost me $ 375, the original ant problem is still unresolved and no one is returning my calls.
I see Ants almost every day in my kitchen with No Help from this Company.
Do Not Trust or Do Business With This Company.
My next step is to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.

Beware of this company! Rob came out, did an inspection and said we needed to tent our home to rid the termites. He said we would be covered for 3 years. Less than one year later, we saw termite wings in the same window as before. Andy came out and without seeing a termite or termite wing, he stated we had a «different termite» and it is not covered. He said we would need to pay an additional 1,299.00!
Rob seemed like an honest man and that is why we went with the company. We now feel we were duped!

My experience with POW was horrible. They were called back upon the sale of the home and did not do an adequate inspection of the home but copied another termite report and got it wrong. I was then told by Andy that he would cover the subterranean termites since one year previous POW did the work. He then ended up charging me for work he said he would comp. The repair work was not done properly or adequately as he never showed up with his crew to point out the damage that needed to be repaired and to this day I have pictures of inadequate patched eaves (I did myself). that he insisted should be repaired. It was also a very difficult process getting them to finalize the report and sign off completion for the sale. In the end he overcharged me for the sub terranean work that he said he would not charge me for since he had done the work one year previous. Andy also left me a nasty message on my phone stating I was asking for too many discounts. Do not do business with this company. Very unprofessional, late, unreliable, always an excuse of vacation or injury.

I absolutely can’t say enough positive things about Pow Bug Squad! I worked with Nicole from the office and she is amazing. We had Marc come out to help us with catching a couple of rats that had found their way into our kitchen, and Marc was knowledgeable, professional, funny and patient. He set glue and snap traps around the kitchen and a couple of bait boxes outside, which worked like a charm. He also walked the perimeter of the house with us and gave us suggestions of what we can do to prevent this from happening again. We felt we were in wonderful hands and he reassured us with their help we would get it resolved.
Happy to report that we caught a couple rats, followed all his suggestions and are now declared officially rodent free. Marc came back for a follow-​up appointment and was fantastic as usual.
Would not hesitate to use them again or recommend to anyone I know.

I bought the amazon deal and called them to schedule the pest control with Jennifer (their customer service). Everything was set-​up, they got my full address and info. I took a day off from work and was advised to clear out everything from the kitchen cabinets. On the day of appointment, I cleared out everything before 3pm because the appointment was 3pm-​5pm. I’ve been talking to Jennifer 3 times that day what time should I expect them to arrive. At about 5:45pm, I called the office to confirm the schedule because they 1.45 hours late. I spoke to their manager, Theresa and advised me that they dont accept job at my place and gave me a lot excuses and apologies after all the damages that has been done. And she offered me that ithey can still do the job but cannot accept the voucher from amazon and it will cost me 3 times of the value of the amazon deal. I told her that I dont want to deal with their company ever again.
Please give yourself a treat, dont ever deal with this company… very horrible experience!!!

I had reservations that my serious ant problem (so bad that ants would crawl on you while you were watching tv!) would be solved by purchasing the Amazon Local deal but 2 days later, we are 99% ant free! I honestly cannot believe it. This company is fantastic — I highly recommend them to anyone looking to get rid of their summer ants!!!

If I could give this company negative stars for poor customer service, I would! I bought an amazon local voucher for ant extermination. When the worker showed up (I didn’t get his name, but he was a thin Caucasian man), I asked him to exterminate the exterior of my house, which he did very quickly. I asked if there was any warranty and he told me, «You only paid $ 39 and you expect a warranty?» I was left speechless by his poor attitude and rudeness.
The voucher also included a free termite inspection, but he left without performing this service for me.
The exterior extermination was completely ineffective in getting rid of my ants, in fact the problem seemed to get worse! I I might as well have just used Raid and sprayed it outside myself!
I would not recommend this company to anyone! If they are unable to treat their customers courteously, they shouldn’t expect any repeat business. I will be looking elsewhere for my future bug and pest related needs.

Andy, The owner came over my house because I had swarming termites. I used his company 3 years ago and called them again. I have to say that this company not only solved my problem but didn’t try to upsell me like other companies. He is the most understanding, trustworthy and compassionate person you would want to deal with. His honesty is second to none and all of his staff are very energenic and caring.
