The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights

The Osborne Spectacle of Lights is truly a memorable spectacle! Unfortunately, this is the last year, so we had to see it one last time. We saw it 5 years ago, and at that time my hubby said he would do everything he could to make me love Xmas. This is what did it for me.
You know those truly magical Xmas movies full of emotion, love, and happiness! You capture all those feelings and more here.
All of the buildings and ambiance is filled with twinkle, fake snow, and wonder. You will be completely immersed with a million feelings running through your head!
This Osborne Spectacle is beyond a work of art. I look forward to what will replace the future of this beautiful event! It will be greatly missed by many!

I finally went to see the Osborne Spectacle of Dancing Lights at Hollywood Studios & I’m so bummed this is the last year cause it’s wonderful! The light displays are so impressive no words do it justice. Add to that synchronization to Christmas music & snow & you’ve got the perfect recipe to get anyone into the Christmas spirit! If you’re in Central Florida do yourself a favor & go see the lights before they’re gone forever. Worth every penny!

Sad to see this disappear! Thank you Osborne family; we got to see these light Christmas season 2010. Here’s hoping they live on at WDW somewhere (maybe another park or even Downtown Disney)?

We have annual passes and visit the lights every year… Last night was our first trip this season and we were pleased to be back again… If you’ve never seen them and have a chance to go, it needs to be this year as its the last year!
Disney, with the wisdom that turned down Harry Potter, is eliminating the Spectacle… This show is one of the crown jewels on Disney property… There is always a feeling of euphoria surrounding the show and people are extremely polite and very happy to be there amongst the music and beautiful dancing lights… It’s a wonderful sight to see and a true shame that Disney’s so called imagineers can’t figure a way to move the show and preserve it’s popularity, while at the same time increase it’s profitability.
How about building an Anytown U.S.A. with shops inside and restaurants at the ends of each street overlooking the lights… It could be like a small Downtown Disney decorated with the Osborne lights… It might even be expanded to include other holidays like Easter, the 4^th of July, Halloween, etc… Wouldn’t it be great to see the streets decorated in red, white and blue for the 4^th, with patriotic music playing ?.. COME ON DISNEY, give the people what they want and you can surely figure a way to make money off of the endeavor… Don’t make another stupid mistake like Harry Potter.

Hands down, THE place to come to see the best holiday lights!!! Come while you can since this is the last year after 20 years.

Every year this is a must! The lights, the sound, the atmosphere! I feel like everyone is going to feel lost now that it’s over! Christmas will definitely never be the same again here in the central Florida area. If you haven’t yet I would recommend going this year and take lots of photos/​videos! I will be posting some on here!

I love Christmas… and I love Christmas lights. So SAD that these are going away next year, but I’m so very happy I got to see them finally. Bright, shiny bulbs dancing to music sure make my holiday nights special! They’re everywhere and on everything!
Don’t miss these if you are coming to Disney this season.

Probably the best set up of Christmas lights I have ever seen in person. I cannot imagine how all these lights and features were at someone’s «house» at one time… forget about the electric bill that the guy paid every month! Lol
But it is really a unique experience to watch the lights all coordinate to music as people line the streets of Hollywood studios. This is the last year they are having the lights so if you haven’t seen them than you need to do it before they are gone. The real question is what are they doing with the lights after this year? Whose attic are they going in? Lol

I am so happy I got to see this one last time. It’s sad it won’t be there anymore. But disney is full of so many nice things to see at Christmas time. Have no fear, in sure they will do something just as amazing, if not better

We have wanted to do this for years. Worth the craziest day of the year to go see the dancing lights. Truly amazing. Lights dances and kids sung along.
Amazing to try to find all of the hidden mickeys (over 80!) we found 30 before our eyes hurt from the bright lights.
If u are in Disney when this is up — you must must go to see it.

I am –so sad– this is the last year that they’ll be having this. It truly was beautiful.
I was in the Streets of America when I saw everyone lined up in the area. I saw ropes and wondered why people were waiting, but not seated as they do when there’s a parade. So I asked. Yes, I knew about the lights. But they were waiting for Santa Goofy to light them off. It wasn’t more than 5 minutes later, just as dusk set in fully that the lights came on, the music began and the world became that much more magical.
Truly, if you’ve not had the chance to see the Osborne Family spectacle of Dancing Lights, you need to make a trip out to see them. They are something to behold. There are 80 «hidden» Mickeys laying within the lights, There are little vingettes within the windows of the city and of course there are the lights that dance and the music of the holidays that plays. People sing, people mill about and people will hit you with their strollers. (Yep, that’s the drawback) but it’s the HOLIDAYS, and it’s good!
Note, Just outside the spectacle — on your way to Star Tours, is a vendor of R2D2 Spinners, Visit Brittney A. there. She’s fun! We chatted a bit and she let me record the spinner for my Facebook. *chuckles* And yes, I ended up buying one because it’s too cute not to. I ended up finding out a pin for her — much after it had been traded. But it’s Cast Members like her that make the park shine. Thanks Brittney!

I can’t believe I made it for its final farewell. The light display kicks a whole lot of ass. I commend the people who put this all together for everyone to enjoy. Seriously, just go and see for yourself.
It begins at dusk and ends when the park closes. It’s located in the Streets of America and there are plenty of guides that lead you to the way in and on the way out. We stayed for about 30 minutes and it was worth every single minute. The lights «danced» to holiday songs and it was perfect. I dread seeing the holidays being celebrated before Thanksgiving, but the other night was an exception. You will never see me write that again ;)
There is a bunch of people that will be there, so be prepared to get bumped into or wait for people to take their time moving out of the crowd. I’m not a fan of big crowds for that reason yet I quickly forgot about it when Carol of the Bells (my favorite Christmas song ever!) came on and the lights beamed with the music. One seems to hear words of good cheer from everywhere filling the air. Ding, dong, ding, dong, ding, dong, ding, dong!
It’s a damn shame that the Spectacle of Lights will be over after this year. It’s simply phenomenal and has topped every holiday show I have seen in my entire life. I’m so glad I got a chance to see it with my loved ones this past weekend and hope that you get a chance to see it if you haven’t done so before it says goodbye. What an awesome show!

Awesome awesome awesome!!! I’m so sad this is the last year Disney will have this on display. It’s fabulous. It was so much fun and we brought our 13 month old to see it. Breathtaking!

I’m so disappointed that Disney is ending the Osborne Lights after this year! This is a family tradition that we always look forward to. If you are thinking about going this light show is included with the price of admission to Hollywood Studios. It begins at dusk and ends at park close; located in the streets of America.
The streets are covered in Christmas lights, the whole area is surrounded by Christmas music, fake snow and during some songs the lights dance along. It’s something you have to see at least once. It’s absolutely beautiful. My husband and I like to grab a hot chocolate from one of the many snack stands along with a sugar cookie and just enjoy the atmosphere.
There are hidden mickeys hidden throughout and other small Disney touches. Try to find the purple cat, it was accidentally sent to Disney by the Osborne family since it was a Halloween decoration and not Christmas. Disney hides it somewhere within the light show every year. Also get your picture with Santa Goofy!
It’s going to be crowded regardless of what day you go but it’s a gorgeous spectacle of dancing lights you won’t want to miss before they are gone forever.

This is the last year for The Osborne Spectacle of Dancing Lights. NOOOOOO! I know, I was upset too.
I went this week when I found out they were having a preview because I know this year will be extra busy. It was a little hot but totally worth it.
There is a seating area that is for the special dining events happening this year. It was open since these events haven’t started yet and was a great place to sit and watch the lights!
I got to see lots of hidden special items, my favorite was the Christmas Story leg lamp and the Muppets-​themed balconies (take a closer look at the Christmas balls when you find this area). Make sure you walk down all the alleys and don’t forget to look up in some areas. See if you can find Tinkerbell pointing out the fact that it is the 20^th year celebrating the lights.
The hidden Mickeys are everywhere. My favorite hidden Mickeys are the reflections like the one below. I love Disney details!
There are Annual Passholder ornaments and a t-​shirt available. Of course, they have a themed popcorn bucket and a mug. Check out the blog post for the pictures
Passholders have a special perk this year. They are giving away free Spectacles that make the lights brighter. You need to go to Sid Cahuenga’s (the antique shop) which is on the left as you walk in just past Guest Services. This is only available Mon — Wed after 5:30 starting November 6^th. We tried to get a pair Wednesday night, but they said they didn’t have them yet.
We had such a great time.
I know it is only November, but it is so magical with the Christmas music and all the snow. Plus everyone just seems happier when they are in this area. Make sure you take the time to look in all the windows and soak in the details. See if you can find the famous purple cat!

The Osborne family Spectacle of Dancing lights is definitely a spectacle… It starts towards the beginning of November and runs through the holiday season.
It is located in the streets of America in Hollywood Studios… There are so many lights to see it’s mesmerizing! There are lights everywhere… EVERYWHERE! It’s a really cool show… The lights dance along to the music and it even snows (don’t stick out your tongue it’s soap)!
Goofy is in the area dressed in a Santa outfit… the line gets long, but you can still see all of the lights while you wait.
It’s really awesome to ride the Tower of Terror at night while the lights are on– it’s a breathtaking sight!

Ending 2014 with a review of one of my favorites.
Memorable experiences of all time? Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights is definitely on it. An absolute audiovisual delight of extraordinary proportions that will leave you speechless. Dumbfounded. I’m pretty sure that if I had seen this as a kid, I would’ve passed out from sensory ovrrload. The Streets of America in Hollywood Studios is transformed into the most spectacular and festive holiday display, lit with MILLIONS of colorful, dazzling lights that are synced to ‘dance’ and glow to classic Christmas tunes.
Brought my boyfriend for the holidays — Christmas is his favorite and he also hasn’t been to Disney in over a decade. I knew this would impress him and I was right. Speechless. Dumbfounded. Exactly how I felt when I saw it for the first time last year and how you’ll feel as well! Photos and even videos simply doesn’t do it justice and cannot even begin to translate to the emotions and experience of actually being there. We ended up staying in the area for 2 hours, dancing and bouncing, just like the beautiful lights, to Feliz Navidad, Carol of the Bells and a bunch of others. The songs loop continously all night long.
Disney does it best and this is THE showcase that must not be missed. I’ll be back year after year during the holidays to make sure I catch the Osborne lights. Absolutely magical.

My husband and I were blown away by this light display. We really didn’t know what to expect, we hadn’t planned to go to Hollywood Studios during our Christmas trip to Disney World as we didn’t expect anything special at Christmas, but after someone on the Disney Cruise said their favorite Christmas event at Disney World was this light display, we changed our minds.
The rest of Hollywood studios has several Christmas decorations, but is not that different than normal. So as you make your way to this one street, you are stunned into silence by this light display on steroids. EVERYTHING is covered 100%+ in lights except for the street itself. Plus, the lights are timed to blink with the music. No one expects to get through this section fast as the street is CROWDED with people, and everyone is gawking and trying to take it all in. While the lights were always on, they at intervals would play a special Christmas song and the blinking bedazzle Christmas lights display would move in time to the music. Then the lights would just go back to normal. Then the next time it would be a different song, and it would happen all over again.
This is a definite Christmas must if visiting Disney World during the Christmas season. If I lived in Florida this would become a fast Christmas tradition.

What else can I really add that hasn’t already been said? If you are at Disney during the Holiday Season, DO NOT miss seeing this amazing light display at Hollywood Studios. You’ll totally regret it if you miss it! It’s like nothing you’ve ever seen before. Lights, lights everywhere!
The twinkling lights, the snow falling, the music — it’s just all so mesmerizing. There’s just so much to take in! As someone else mentioned, it’s a thrill to try to find the Hidden Mickey’s. That’s one of my favourite parts!
Every year we come to see these lights and they never fail to disappoint! You’ve done it again, Disney — 5 stars!

Try to find the purple cat.
This light show is a MUST VISIT and is absolutely fantastic! All the five star reviews are right on! So here is two things you may not have read yet:
1) The Osborne Lights are at Disney because the Osborne Family in Arkansas originally set up the light show at their home to wow their daughter Little Breezy. In 1993 with over three million lights the neighbors down the block complained and filed a suit to shut off the lights because traffic was too bad. The case made it all the way to the Supreme Court and in 1995 the Arkansas state Supreme Court ordered the display shut down. Walt Disney World project director John Phelan contacted the Osborne’s and everything was sent down to Disneyworld.
The display is made up of over five million lights, 10 miles of rope lighting connected by another 30 miles of extension cords. It takes 20,000 man-​hours to install the display each holiday season, starting in September. The lights are turned on at dusk each night, starting in mid-​November and running into the first week of January, and require 800,000 watts of electricity.
2) The Disney caretakers have added a number of hidden Mickeys into the lights but there is one outstanding feature that according to legend was originally a mistake. Along with all the lights Mr. Osborne sent over a purple cat, part of his Halloween display, and it was put up in Disney with the rest of the lights before someone figured out it was a mistake. It became a hit and now it’s put up in a different spot each year. Even among the Disney cast members it’s a big deal and early in the season everyone tries to find the purple cat. It took us two nights but we did finally find it. It’s not really that hard. See the photos that I uploaded.
