I actually signed in to post a poor review. Funny, the clerk didn’t tell me about any discounts.
I just wanted an oil change. Simply, an oil change. The clerk took basic info. He did not offer a quote; I did not ask (my bad). He did tell me that there is a Starbucks across the street. Their waiting area is 3 chairs awkwardly facing his high stool station.
I haul myself through the freezing cold to Starbucks and settle in. My laptop has not turned on yet and the clerk calls to tell me that my car only takes synthetic — $ 70. He also says that I need new cabin filter and engine filter. Total estimate $ 160. I think I pooped my pants at this news; I said I’ll call Dad and then call back. I haul myself through the cold again.
The clerk has removed the cabin filter and proceeded to show me how dirty it is. Hah! Do you think showing me something dirty will help? Everything in a car looks dirty to me!
He says that they will finish the oil change and I told them to stop. He says that I came for the oil change; I retort that I didn’t want to pay $ 70. To his credit, he did offer standard.
So I sat there pouting and trying to make him uncomfortable until my car was ready. Their waiting area is 3 chairs facing their one-​seat ikea station. It was about 10 – 15 minutes.
I walked out with my paper estimate. I wasted about an hour or so. Why is it so hard to support small business?

Came here on a Friday morning to replace my brake pads/​rotors. Dave did a great job and was extremely kind. Michael gave great advice without being pushy and did a great job with honoring the quoted price. Definitely will come here again.

Beware! Wish I could have had the same positive experience other customers have posted. I won’t go back here for fear of being ripped off. My car was «diagnosed» with needing an expensive repair that in fact it did not need! I had dropped my car there to find out what the problem was and went home. The phone call from Armando said that now the car wouldn’t even start and the alternator was «fried». Not so! My husband went in to Sunset and he started it right up. What is going on here??? I recommend getting a second opinion before agreeing to major repairs. You may not get the right diagnosis of what is wrong!!!

Love this place ! Have come here multiple times for oil changes, tires and other repairs and always happy with their work. Armando is great to work with. The service is prompt and very good. They are honest and genuine and I have never felt cheated or disappointed (unlike a few other places I have been to). I would recommend them highly for anyone looking to get their car fixed.

We called Sunset Automotives because it is close to us in Lake Bluff, Il. We had a flatbed trailer sitting in our driveway with a 700 pound hot tub on it, that my son was planning to take to his house in upper Michigan. However, when he tried to fill one of the tires with extra air, it burst and when he tried to remove the tire, the lug nuts were rotted! Undoing the bolts seemed impossible! A call to Sunset, and they were more than happy to come out to our house within the hour to see what they could do. What seemed to us as an impossible task, was a quick and professional job for them. They replaced both tires and fixed whatever else needed repairing at a reasonable price. We are very impressed with the quality of their work, and their sincere interest in a job well done. We will DEFINATELY recommend them to all of our friends and neighbors.

Their service is top notch. The manager is super friendly. I had a flat tire about a mile away and came to Sunset. Did not hear abt this place before. I explained the situation and they immediately sent a mechanic to help me out and they did not charge me anything. In exchange, they wanted me to become a regular customer. I highly recommend this place. Their prices are very fair and they are totally trustworthy.

Went for an oil change here earlier today. Their service is fast, friendly, and thurough. Definitely coming back in the future, and NOT just for the fun little keychain s they hand out.

I found these guys pretty unhelpful since they wouldn’t answer the questions I had about my car. They also told me I needed more parts replaced than I did (when I got a second opinion, I was told this). Also, the guy who worked there would talk about me in a less-​than-​respectful way in front of me in Spanish (he assumed I couldn’t understand since I’m white).

I love this place. Been coming here for years now. I drive from Chicago to Lake Bluff to get my car looked at. Hector is the nicest man that works there. Ask for him!

This place is legit!!! Always there to help and not feed you any bull shit… Hector is the man! Been a few times and always got what I needed done quick and all around good service! MUST GO!!!

I paid a ton of money for service and they used really bad parts on my car. The brakes squeaked immediately after getting them fixed and when I took the car to the dealership to get repaired, the were appalled at the work that had been done. DO NOT GO HERE. Save your money!

Super friendly service at fair prices. I’ve brought my car here for oil changes, engine checks, etc.
Hector saved my day today when he replaced a serpentine belt that was about to snap. Despite a parking lot full of cars he got the parts and did the work immediately so I wouldn’t have to return the next day. I’ve sent friends to Sunset and everyone has had positive experiences.
Extra bonus: it is within walking distance of a Starbucks and a Panera if you need a place to wait for a few hours

GPS will lead you wrong even though adress is correct. It’s right next to shell gas. Owner was very nice, gave me discount because of Google fail maps. So far good experience.

I failed my emissions test and brought the engine codes from the test to Sunset and asked them to look into and provide a quote to fix just those two things. I agreed to paying $ 100 for the diagnostics and would get $ 50 back toward the repairs if I did my repairs there. I usually go to Old Orchard Shell in Skokie (friends and I have trusted them for years) but since I have to renew my license by the end of the month, after trying again after the repairs and passing of the emissions test, I stopped in here because it is closer to my house than Skokie. $ 100 later, the next day, they confirmed that yep, it was those same two codes I already had, and gave me the quote to repair. I needed to pay $ 123 for a new oxygen sensor, and $ 1,140 for a catalytic converter. Hector said I needed to buy a Honda converter, after I said I looked online and found these for WAY less than what he was quoting. After getting a second opinion at Old Orchard, and a third opinion with my friend who is a part-​time mechanic, I confirmed that no, I did not need to purchase a Honda converter. Flat out lie — this Honda converter was several hundred dollars more than others I found online. I asked if I could purchase a converter elsewhere and have him use that one and he said no way.
When I arrived to pick up my car, the sheet of paper I got for $ 100 only had the same two codes I got from the emissions testing center. I asked if he could add some notes to those two codes (after paying $ 100 for this golden information), and stood there in front of him for 10 minutes while he typed it up and printed it for me. After «computer issues» I finally walked out with my piece of paper, 15 minutes later.
**UPDATE** After the owners read this review, they called me to talk with me about this issue. I was impressed by how much they cared, and how professional and courteous they were. They sincerely apologized and made things right for me again. This has changed the way I feel toward their company, as I respect them for their response to my problem. Thank you very much to the owners, and I will also let my friends in Lake Bluff know about this too!

Recently had to get my car towed and I decided to call Sunset Automotive Inc. I received nothing but excellent service from all of the staff. I have used Sunset Automotive Inc. in the past before, and have been very satisfied with the results. I’d recommend them to anyone!

Needed to check on a low tire warning light on my dashboard during my lunch hour. Not sure if the tire had a leak, or just low pressure. They helped me immediately and didn’t charge for the service. Friendly, personal touch! Thankfully there wasn’t a true issue, but will make sure to return when there is.
