Sleeping Bear Resort

This place was awesome! The only thing better would be a full service hotel, lol. Seriously, the cabins were neat and tidy and clean, which is important, because this is not always the case in cabins. The owners have provided everything you might need in the cabin, from towels and soap to a coffee maker and plates, to a toaster. They also provide a rowboat, peddle boat and kayaks and paddle boards for guests to enjoy. The whole resort is casual, inviting, welcoming and was great for our family gathering. We will definitely be back!

We had a great stay at Sleeping Bear Resort. First of all, it is exceptionally clean and it is a really neat property with a great view of the lake. I thought that it might be too removed from the city but it was actually a really nice location with nearby market and close proximity to the Dunes and lakes. The water pressure was a tad on the light side but that is my only very minor issue. Highly recommended!

We rented out the entire property last September when we had our wedding next door at the covered bridge. Our family and friends stayed at the resort and everyone love it. The property is under new ownership and the owners take great pride in their property. They updated all of the cabins and, unlike many northern Michigan houses and cabins, none of the cabins or houses on the property have that musty smell. They are all very clean and stocked with the essentials. Since we rented out the entire property, I actually got a chance to spend time in every space they have so I feel I got a good feel for their property.
The lake is beautiful — although it was a warm weekend, it was still the end of September so we didn’t swim, but we did take advantage of the many kayaks, rowboats and canoes that they offer free of charge to their guests. It was absolutely gorgeous with the backdrop of the trees that were starting to change color. The kids staying with us loved playing shuffleboard! Also, there are loons in the lake that you can hear when you’re quiet in the evening, and if you’re lucky like we were, you’ll see a bald eagle fly overhead in the morning.
The location is perfect. You are only 20 minutes either way from Traverse City or Sleeping Bear Dunes, plus there are many wineries and other great attractions in the area. There is a surprisingly well stocked general store in town in Lake Ann, only about 2 miles away, as well as a nice little diner that has amazing mac and cheese!
Each of the cabins has a bedroom and living/​dining space with a small kitchen. There is a picnic table and charcoal grill outside of each and all of the cabins and the Lodge share the large fire pit in the middle of the property, which has plenty of seating for everyone.
The Lodge is a beautiful log home with three floors, with the bottom floor as a walkout basement (but it doesn’t feel like a basement at all) with a game room and living room. There is a wrap-​around porch, which I loved! The kitchen has a beautiful wooden bar/​island and has plenty of room for cooking family meals.
The Bears Den feels a little more secluded from the main property since it has it’s own fire pit and picnic area, plus it’s a little more off to the side. The master bedroom was the selling point for this house — it’s huge and has its own very large bathroom and a small attached bedroom with a toddler bed, as well as its own door to the backyard.
We can’t wait for our next chance to stay there! Randy and Doreen are the best hosts!

This place was completely remodeled including new mattresses under new ownership this year.
I don’t like roughing it so a cabin with plumbing, a full kitchen, and wireless internet? Score! This is a great family friendly lodging right smack in the middle of Traverse City and Sleeping Bear Dunes. It’s located on Lake Herendeene and each cabin has a view of it. The cabins are a one bedroom suite. It has a living room (futon sofa) area opened to the kitchen, a full bathroom, and the bedroom has a queen size bed, bunk beds with a twin on top and full bed on the bottom. Everything was nice and clean and comfortable. Personally I like to travel with my own pillows, but that’s just my thing. Each cabin has its own parking spot, grill and picnic table outside
Things to do here: fire pit, playground, shuffle board, basketball, water trampoline, kayak, canoe, paddle boats, row boats, and a small beach. So there’s plenty to entertain the kids and yourself. The afternoon sun on the lake is beautiful.
The owners are very personable and friendly and hooked us up to some cool places in Traverse City.
This is definitely a place to recommend to other families and to visit again.

Dirty, dirty rooms. Nice layout for families, but a bit run down with a very healthy hornet population right where you enter the water. Lake is not crystal clear, but there are plenty of boats. Trampoline has a large gash. Fire pit works well!
Two stars because it is cheap and we had fun, but if you go, avoid the cabins and stay at the lodge
