The Secret Tan

1 star because she was a no-​show and then didn’t respond to my texts or phone calls asking where she was.
I found her to be unorganized and unprofessional.
P. S. The email address for Gwen, which the other Unilocaler provided bounced back to me– which is fine.
Even though she explained she was very close by to my hotel, she was rather winey on the phone about being «Mobile» and kept asking me if I was sure I couldn’t come to her house because that would be easier for her (I had my baby with me and no car because I’m on vacation). «I have to figure out how to park and then move my stuff up to the room…» Wah wah. Is this not what you do for a living?!
In my lengthy morning phone call with her, while I basically waited on the phone while she talked to herself back and forth about what time would be best for her and the «logistics», she said that if I wanted a morning appointment the following day, that would be best for her. I told her 7:30 the next morning was fine and gave her my hotel info. She called later that evening and left a vmail that we «have to talk to get organized for tomorrow.» I didn’t get that message until the next morning. So she was a no show, and then didn’t reply to any of my texts or calls. Oh, but she butt-​dialed me mid-​day. Awesome.
Life went on; I wasn’t perfectly bronzed for our family beach portraits but who cares. I’m glad I wasn’t counting on her for my wedding day or something more important. Brides beware!
For the record, womanly intuition tells me she is «going through something» since all her other reviews are glowing.

Gwen was so easy to work with! Especially with her charm and optimistic personality, she made me feel very comfortable in a very uncomfortable situation. =)
I have received about half a dozen airbrush spray tans before from California and Nevada and I must say that I’m very very impressed with Gwen’s professionalism and even some of the techniques that I have not seen before. I came out looking very natural (and not orange) and the tan even lasted more than a week!

We came from Michigan (not a lot of sun) to Hawaii for our daughter’s senior pictures. Gwen came to our condo which was very convenient for us. She was very sweet, kind and professional. Our daughter’s tan was amazing and the pictures turned out fabulous! She has very light skin so we wanted a tan that would look natural and even. It’s been several days since her tan was applied and we’ve been swimming everyday and it still looks amazing! This was definitely her best tanning experience ever and we highly recommend Secret Tan!

Gwen is AMAZING! I have had numerous airbrush tans all over the US but she really is the BEST! The best part is she comes right to you which makes it really convenient! Her prices are MORE than fair and she is so nice and super professional. The product she uses is fantastic and my tan usually lasts over a week. I wouldn’t dream of using anyone else here on Maui! she is truly No ka oi!!! Mahalo Gwen for always taking such good care of me!

I was visiting HI from CA and wanted to get some color in the middle of our trip. I googled spray tans and found Gwen. I called her and she showed up to our hotel at the Westin within 2 hours! She was SO sweet and my color was amazing. She was the only person on the island I could find to work in the evening. The other 2 places I called wanted to do it in the morning and also would not come to the hotel unless they charged an extra $ 20. Mind you, this wouldn’t work very well, as it would burn a whole day of me not being able to swim. She was so professional, flexible and very fun to talk with.

I had never had a spray tan in my life and only decided to get one because my pale white sister got one in CA and it looked so beautiful on her. Since I was getting married and wanted to look perfect, I decided to try it out. It was definitely a risky move as it could have gone all wrong and my perfect wedding day could have been botched by a terrible, orange tan. Instead, I had gorgeous, glowing skin on my big day! Everyone thought that it was a natural tan, even my local Maui family who KNOW what a tan looks like!
Gwen came to my hotel room two days prior to the wedding to give me my spray tan. I am naturally very modest so the thought of stripping down in front of a stranger made me rather nervous. However, Gwen truly puts you at ease. She is so easy to talk to and so easy to be around that I was not nervous at all once we got going.
The only thing I would do differently is to schedule the spray tan for a day when I had nothing going on. You have to let the spray tan sit for 8 – 10 hours before rinsing it off. That meant that I had to attend a big group event with my sticky, runny spray tan (only runny because I was out in the heat instead of in the A/​C as recommended). I felt uncomfortable with people seeing my gross look that day but everyday after it looked beautiful.
I highly recommend Gwen for the amazing results and comfortable process!

We found The Secret Tan online and spoke with Gwen. Even though she had a busy evening ahead, she still found the time to come to our hotel room so that my bride-​to-​be would have a great looking Maui tan.
After arriving, she went right to work. She brought all of the necessary equipment and completed the job in no time at all. The results were better than expected. She used a product that left a natural color — none of the orange tint that I’ve seen before. I’ve already written to our wedding planner and will soon mention it to our travel agent because everyone should know about those that go above and beyond as well as those that don’t.

Wow! What a great experience! I never had a spray tan before. My skin doctor said its the safest way to appear tan and best for one’s skin. Gwen did an awesome job. It was fun and fast mand I look amazing! No one can tell and it’s lasting over a week for me. I’m going to do it every week. I highly recommend Qwen. She uses naturally products and the results are flawless

I got a spray tan with Gwen before my wedding. It was my first ever, and she did a nice job making me feel comfortable, giving me all of the information that I needed in order to make it stay (seriously, I got it last Wednesday and it lasted a full week, easily!). And her work was great! My friends were actually surprised it wasn’t natural (except for the fact that all of a sudden, overnight, I was a few shades darker — ha). Anyway, two thumbs up. Definitely use her if you want to look like you’ve been laying on the beach on Maui for a week.

I decided to wait to get a spray tan until I arrived on Maui and I’m so glad I did! I found Gwen on google and arranged for her to come to my hotel the day that I arrived. She is super sweet, and her attention to detail is amazing. I now have a gorgeous bronze color on my skin and I couldn’t be happier. I’ve spray tanned many times and the solution she uses is the best I’ve seen. Trust me, you will NOT look orange at all. If you want a gorgeous tan, call Gwen. You won’t regret it!

I LOVE MY SECRET TAN!!! I received one of Gwen’s secret tans as soon as I arrived to the island, hoping to dull my blazing white tourist legs. Having not had much luck with tanners in the past, but desperate not to look like a ghoul, I called Gwen. She’s MOBILE!!! She came to the condo with her equipment and HOLY SHIZZLE I went from whitey to complete awesomeness!!! In fact, I was so impressed by Gwen, her tanning formulation and her wonderful personality and wit, that I had her spray me again before I left, to make sure I kept my island glow for a bit when I returned home. I would recommend Gwen a million times over– such a great job!!!

This might be THE BEST secret we learned at our stay at the Ritz Carlton in Kapalua. My husband and I needed a tan and instead of damaging out skin and laying out, we opted for an amazing spray tan with Gwen… owner of the secret tan. The tan is AMAZING and Gwen is maybe the friendliest person we met on our Hawaiian vacation. She was very professional and very good at her job… plus the tan product she used was the best I have ever had… that is her «secret». The company she uses only sells it to her in the area so you literally can’t get it anywhere else near by. We could not be happier with our beautiful tans and are now not embarrassed to be the white tourists at the pool :-) Thank you, Gwen for making us feel great. I always get a spray tan before I go to Maui. As I worked for a plastic surgeon for years, I know how damaging sun exposure can be. I like to jump into a bikini all bronzed on my first day but hate traveling with a smelly and unavoidably orange spray tan. it took me years to find a mobile spray tan service on Maui so it was an exciting day when I met Gwen, the owner ans operator of ‘The Secret Tan’
Gwen is an extremely likable and professional who even makes house calls! The product she uses leaves you with a perfectly brown/​bronzed island girl glow. I’ve been sprayed in LA, NYC, Seattle, and Las Vegas and her product produces the best smelling and looking results. She is so charming that you forget you’re naked and feel like you’re just chatting with a girlfriend. She is a perfectionist and I recommend her to everyone who visits Maui!
