Specialties

Serving Maui since 1932, we are known for our ONOlicious (delicious) red, hawaiian hot dogs, boiled peanuts, spam musubi, shave ice, plate lunches, bentos and ice cold drinks and beer. We are a local pit stop and is the first stop in to and the last stop out of Lahaina. We serve breakfast and lunch and can provide you with a picnic lunch for your day trip as well as quench your thirst with a scrumptious Hawaiian shave ice. We feature many local products made in Hawaii but especially made on Maui. To name a few: Maui Babe and Maui Vera suncare products, Maui Cookkwees and The Original Maui Potato Chip, Maui Brewing beer, Maui Coffee Roaster, Maui wines and spirits, ice cream and Italian ice, arts, crafts and more… all made on Maui.

Olowalu General Store is locally owned and operated by people born and raised on Maui =-)

BONUS: At and around Olowalu town, you will find ancient petroglyphs, world famous snorkeling, popular surf spots, camp grounds, a romantic wedding spot and more…

History

Established in 1932.

Matsue Ichiki Fujii began working for her brother in 1928 when the store was still called Ichiki Store. In 1932, Mrs Fujii took over the store and personally ran it until 1974, when she retired. Mrs. Fujii was 21 days shy of turning 101 years old when she passed away in September 2013.

Today, Olowalu General Store is still owned by the Fujii family and is managed by a local family. We are one of the oldest stores in Maui.

In the beginning, the store was the center of Olowalu. A village for plantation workers surrounded the store. Being one of the few stores in West Maui, the store carried animal feed, clothing and groceries. Through the years, times change: shopping centers were built, chain stores arrived, Pioneer Mill (West Maui sugar plantation) closed down and with it the village slowly disappeared. Olowalu General Store has changed some to flow with the times but we still have hot dogs =-) and the local Aloha Spirit.
