Powell’s Sweet Shoppe

I was in search of some old school candy for a baby shower game… All I can say is thank you!!! I found every piece of candy needed and I’m very excited and happy. I think I was in the store for over 30 min trying to decide on one thing to remind me of my childhood. The selection is wonderful and it’s so nice to have this local and I can go whenever I want. I have to add that the staff was very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. I didn’t get their names but the customer service was great!

Yummy gelato, sobetto and nostalgic treats. Definitely worth visiting. Parking can be challenging during peak times.

This is heaven for young kids. They have every kind of candy you could imagine– old and new. My kids love the cotton candy machine, gelato, and all the different unique and sometimes comical candy. For parents, I would advise watching the weight of your kids bags (lol) because this place is pretty expensive. I let my 3 kids fill only a little of the candy bags and it still totaled $ 18! The prices seem steep to me, and I noticed some of my candy like the sour belts and sour cherry cola bottles seemed overly hard and chewy (not fresh) But overall it’s a fun experience for kids, and nice for a special occasion.

This review is for this particular Powell’s in Laguna Niguel/​Aliso Viejo. We LOVE the one in Petaluma!!! We were expecting the same upscale chocolates & went to buy my Dad’s Christmas gift with a Groupon. It was for bulk candy, we should be good, right? The only bulk candy was cheap stuff…& the only chocolate bulk candy was the cheap chocolate balls you buy in a package for $ 3 at the drug store, & Hershey’s kisses, also drug store for a few bucks. We were charged $ 13lb for That!!! :/​Tons of goofy stuffed animals, and salt water taffy, but almost none of the high-​end chocolate that their NorCal stores carry! Hmmm

All the candy & every candy one could ever hope see. Whoever imagined this up, executed it flawlessly. Like many reviews before, I stumbled in here and we got lost for a good hour. Definitely coming back and thinking about throwing a pajama party here.

LOTS Candy to choose from, and gelato too. Loose and packaged candy, things I have not eaten since I was a kid.
My sister bought a Groupon (on sale) so it was a good deal for 2lbs of candy. I noticed the had a vending machine that makes cotton candy. Too bad I already picked out other candy.
Ample parking in strip mall by Sports store and Old Navy.

Powell’s is a great spot to visit if you’re looking for your sweet imports! They have British Wine Gums, Kinder Candies and Cadbury galore! But with the prevalence of international markets in Orange County, Powell has met their match! I’ve been loading up on my imported chocolates from these international markets, so I wasn’t terribly impressed by their selection.
Their Pez selection on the other hand is impressive! They do have a great selection of candies overall, and they have plenty of bulk candies to enjoy. You should pass on their homemade goods or the chocolates in the display case and their semi melted ice cream.
Overall I don’t think Powell’s is 4 star worthy, there isn’t a whole lot that really wow’s you. The Rocket Fizz candy shop at the Spectrum and your local international market can pretty much suffice the selection at Powell’s.

Packed from floor to ceiling with candy, nostalgia items, and gag gifts. You will likely end up spending more than you anticipate, but only because you’ll say «ooh, I want that and that and that…»
The gelato bar was a bonus, with a wide variety of flavors. Your best bet is to stick with the bulk candy since the pricing on single items is a bit steep. (Example: $ 2.29 for a single pack of Skittles)

This is about 6 years overdue but we had a baby shower here about 5 years ago and the service was great. I really appreciated the staff and the lengths they went to in order to accommodate us. Our party was probably a little to big for the room in the back but it still went well and I really appreciated it!!!

It gets a 5 star because my kids love the candy and their gelato is awesome.
The kids always love coming here and as long as you don’t let the kids buy too much stuff it works out as a great treat for all of us.

Even though a little on the pricier side, they do have a great selection of hard to find, old time candy in addition to gelato & sodas. If it’s a gift, they will also tissue the bag up for you. Birthday parties/​room are also available.

I love this place. It is so cute and has lots of candy from when I was a child. You walk in and immediately you feel a sense of nostalgia. They have tons of different candies, sodas, gelatos and toys. I recently won a whole year supply of candy and I have been taking the little kiddos and friends to get candy/​stuff every month.
When you check in, you get free cotton candy, so check in!

Love this place. It makes you feel like a kid again. They have all the candy that you had when you were little. There is so much to look at. The girl was helpful and very sweet.

This is a cute candy shop that offers bulk candy, gelato, and many other goodies that you won’t be able to find elsewhere. It’s every child’s dream. There are even 2 movie chairs and a TV where you can sit and enjoy your gelato.
The flavors of gelato change occasionally and they are generous with samples. Try the flavors before you decide on one, or two. I’ve had pistachio, peanut butter & jelly, peppermint, and crème brûlée, all of which were delicious! This shop is worth a trip to, for you and the kids!

Prepare yourself when you walk into Powells, because you will be transported into another dimension where candy, chocolate, and everything that has sugar rule.
Every possible candy and chocolate you can think of, even nostalgic ones can be purchased here. They even have gelato and rare sodas if you want something different. Just be prepared to peruse through thousands of varieties of everything sugary.
I’m a chocoholic and this is definitely the last place I should be. But it’s just too close to home! I love their gourmet selection with the peppers, bacon, and even lavender.
For special occasions, you can also book a small party which they have a room for in the back.

So I’m buying candy at #Powell’s Sweet Shoppe– a tried and true candy shoppe-​I look down and see President Obama propaganda tin candy containers near check-​out. Negative images & words that are not pleasant to read when you’re in a candy store. I’m sure this franchise owner is a conservative extremist-​I dig it, I’m in the heart of south OC where they live en masse-​but when i’m spending $ 50 at candy store, I don’t want to be preached to or reminded of the negativity that exists among us.
Not in a candy store, dude.
Just sayin’ & no, I won’t be returning to this store— I’ll scout out another Powell’s cause i do love their candy! Giving it 2 stars because the staff was terrific! Otherwise, this would get one star.

We received a coupon for a free cotton candy at this great candy store! Never been there before but am so glad we went. They have every possible candy and sweet thing you can imagine! It took me back to when I was a child. This place is amazing and the staff greeted us with a hello and a big smile They were very friendly and helpful. They even gave us $ 1 off the candy total along with the free cotton candy! Can’t wait to go back!

Oh, heaven on earth!
I’ve driven past Powell’s for the past several years, but only stopped in recently when craving sweets, and was going to be in the area. Now that I’ve been, I will go out of my way specifically to shop here.
Selection: superb. There’s quite possibly every type of candy that you could dream of. With that said, there is ordinary candy that yuo could pick up at the supermarket, for triple the price. If you want something common, get it elsewhere. (e.g. a small pack of Sour Patch Kids was $ 1.79, but in Target is less than a dollar, and a buck and a few cents elsewhere.)
They have bulk candy, too, at $ 2.99/quarter pound. Almost every flavor of sour belts imaginable — yum!
In the back of the store, near the Wonka section, they have a few cinema-​style seats in front of a tele, showing animated cartoons. I could see a kid wanting to sit there for hours.
Cute shop — bigger than it looks — and worth a visit!

My wife bought a Living Social deal after checking the reviews on this location (we are learning) and decided to celebrate Independence Day by grabbing some sweets from Powell’s. Powell’s is located on Alicia Parkway in a small center and relatively easy to find.
Warning: Walking into the store can send you into sugar shock! The counter is in the center of the room with candy lining the store from one end to the other. Saltwater Taffy, Candy Bars, Jelly Bellies, Gummy Items (Worms, Cherries, Bears … oh my!) and some rare bottled Sodas (Laina lamented there was no Big Red). The counter holds over a dozen flavors of Gelato and Sorbet and some Truffles and other candy items. They also had Star Trek (Original Series) and Avengers lunch boxes among other novelty items.
Rohlinism: If too much of a good thing can be bad for you, does that mean too much of a bad thing is good for?
Walking in and looking along the right wall, I found some rather expensive chocolate bars (
). I bought a 3 oz Vosges Mo’s Milk Bar (45% Deep Milk Chocolate with Hickory Smoked Uncured Bacon and Alderwood Smoked Salt), an expensive ($ 8.99) piece of «Sweet and Savory» heaven! Moving around the store I found a small army of Pez Dispensers in with all sorts of themes (
). Powell’s also has a party room (
) where children can enjoy their sugar highs without disturbing other customers! It was about this time I heard an oh so familiar song:

Looking up I saw Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (
) on a flat screen television (How Gene Wilder didn’t win the Academy Award for this picture is beyond me!) and signed memorabilia (
) from Gene Wilder and other members of the cast all around. What I didn’t see was any Willy Wonka candy, which is a tad bit odd for a place with a shrine dedicated to the movie.
Other minor problems were some of the taffy buckets weren’t properly labeled so you didn’t know what flavor was in the bucket, some of the candy items didn’t have prices on or near them and my better half said the Pina Colada Jelly Bellies and Strawberry Starbursts were a bit stale.
Our haul included Gummy Bears, Gummy Cherries, Boston Baked Bean, Jelly Bellies, a Bottle of Shirley Temple Soda, Strawberry Starburst (yes, you pick whatever flavor you want here) and several candy bars. We also sampled a few types of the Gelato and both of us thought the Gelato was very good. Definitely would come back for a scoop.
The staff was friendly and helpful. They offered samples of the Gelato without being prompted and answered our questions. The total for our candy adventure was $ 40.09 ($ 20.09 after the Living Social Deal), which seems a little high until you realize how many hard to find items are at this location. If you are looking for a rare candy or want to revisit your childhood, this shop is definitely worth a visit.
