Fantastic sushi. Been a customer past 20 years and love it. Authentic sushi place you fast reall fish and don’t get sick. Just let Hiro decide and have fun.

This place is AWESOME, as the sushi chefs and anyone you ask will tell you. I don’t normally write reviews for restaurants but this one needed to be written. It’s not cheap, especially if you eat as much as I do… but I strongly recommend eating at the bar and choosing the chef’s special. Hiro, the owner and one of the sushi chefs, will not steer you wrong. There was literally not one dish that wasn’t absolutely delicious. Plus, he’s a great guy to talk to. Strongly recommend checking this place out!

The sushi was good, however be mindful that it may take a long time to get your food. After waiting 40 minutes we only received 3 ngiri out of 11 and ended up leaving. Would love to try the place again but my first experience was subpar.

The best sushi in town. Awesome is their middle name. You need to sit at the bar and order the chefs special and then sit back and relax and enjoy the experience. No place will ever come close to the food of the experience that you enjoy here

Just simply the best sushi I’ve ever had. Everything and anything made here is fresh and served perfectly.

Sit at the bar. Let the chefs pick what to make. The fish is fresh, buttery, and delicious. Can’t go wrong. They don’t have much wine, very my appetizers, or a huge menu. Just get some good raw fish.

We were there for an hour and were lucky to get one order of sushi every ten minutes. We had to cancel half of our order because it took so long. Plus we got charged on refills for our drinks. Who does that anymore. There are hundreds of better sushi places nearby. Go to one of those

This is, by far, the best sushi I’ve ever had in Orange County. Fish is fresh and simple. Hiro and Tatsu know what they’re doing. Ask Hiro for a lesson on how he keeps each type of fish at their unique temperatures. Hiro gave us a peak inside the process he uses to prepare each fish. Every time I go, I ask for the omakase(chef’s choice), and the experience is excellent. He serves sushi, cooked items, and/or anything you’re interested in. The flavors are strong and the fish melts in your mouth.

First time here, this is a fairly new place, not much décor on the walls. Service is good. With the combinations you receive pickled cucumbers, salad with ginger-vinegar dressing, and miso soup. The tea was hot, but the sesame chicken seemed extra dark, like the fryer was too hot. The sashimi didn’t seem very fresh as it was a Sunday evening. We will return.

Would give his place 10 stars if it was possible! Hiro is such an awesome sushi chef and he’s really funny too! My girlfriend and I went last night and got the chefs special, definitely recommend this. Hiro decides what to make you and it comes out in small portions one at a time. There is no limit to how much you can eat, just remember that you are paying for each sushi plate and it can get pricy depending on how much you eat. The price is totally worth it though, this sushi is probably the best sushi I’ve ever had. It’s so awesome! Am looking forward to returning soon!

Have come here for years and I still say hmm every time I eat here. Don’t come here for a California Roll, go to Ralphs, they have them there. This is the best sushi in OC and they have some standard fare but where they really shine is their specials. If you want a roll covered in Mayo, not going to have much luck here either. That they use the freshest fish and vegetables and you can smell your food before it is delivered to you in an elegant arrangement, is a clear indicator why they never have to advertise. Try the asparagus and spicy shrimp handroll and find out for yourself. Order the Shishito peppers and pray.

we’ve moved next to Trader Joe’s. Same wonderful chefs. I don’t think there is anything they make that doesn’t melt like butter in my mouth. Always impressed with my meal and the service is top notch. Not going to lie it’s a little expensive… But you can’t beat the quality. You must try: Spicy Shrimp Hand roll, Salmon Special Hand roll, Salmon sushi special… Salmon Sashimi, Tuna Tataki, And if you are a bit more adventurous, order the chef’s special. Can’t go wrong…

By far the best sushi in Orange County!!! We try many sushi places, and none have been able to even compare to Kotobuki’s… The fish is incredibly fresh, and not fish-y in the least. Everything is cut and rolled fresh, in front of you! Hiro is absolutely awesome, and a pleasure to chat with as he makes your sushi! Our favorite is to go in and let Hiro decide what to serve us– but only do this if you’re feeling adventurous! Some of our favorite pieces– the albacore, tuna, and salmon. Anything with tempura in it. And my husband loves the salmon with the special soy sauce/lemon/ginger sauce that Hiro whips up!

Great terrific food and service. Traditional Sushi bar and regular table service. Love their teriyaki chicken and salmon dishes with Lightly battered tempura, rice and soup. Their ginger dressing is the best I’ve ever had on a salad. Reasonable priced.

Any sushi dish is mediocre. Fish is dull and tasteless; not fresh. Only some hot dishes are good(udon and tempura). Atmosphere: Quiet, outdated. Decent service. I don’t know why this place has glowing reviews. I came at 12pm, so maybe there is a discrepancy between lunch and dinner service.

I rarely think of any place as 5 star, but Kotobuki is one of them. Chef Hiro was enthusiastic, professional, lively, and generally awesome! He’s the most outgoing and positive sushi chef I’ve encountered. The food is great, but I would honestly go back just to chat with him. We had omakase(chef’s choice) and for two it came out to 109 $. Very fairly priced for the quality of food we were served. I’ve been to tsukiji fish market in Japan a few times and eaten at sushi dai etc. Kotobuki is on par with these places as far as fish quality. I can’t wait to try Chef Hiro’s creations again! Awesome!
