The Black Iris

I know they have beautiful high end floral arrangements — but this is NOT the place to get corsages for high school dances. Starting price out the door is $ 48, and what you receive is generic and pedestrian. Save your dough and go to Browne’s, Gelsons, or any of the other local places.

This exquisite Florist is a staple in Laguna Beach for over 30 years. I have received many floral arrangements from them over the years. Their designers are truly talented artists. The floral gift store is a must see.

I visit California twice a year to see family. On every occasion whether it’s Christmas, New Year, birthdays and what have yous, we always order flowers and stop by to get gifts at the Black Iris. This is one dependable business and they always give superlative products worth recommending,
I have no idea what the other reviewers are talking about.
I have a feeling they’re were from competitors trying to promote wrong advertising for this business. Unilocal doesn’t sanitizes whatever anyone wrote on their reviews but I want to somehow make an effort to defend a great company for all it worth.

I ordered a corsage and boutonnière from The Black Iris.
The corsage was $ 75.00 and the boutonnière was $ 25.00. I requested white roses.
I received wilted (brown on the edges) bland arrangements that were not worthy of the hefty price charged. The flowers were not even roses.
The quality and creativity was inferior. I was overcharged and underwhelmed. I will not return.

Beautiful art, service is impeccable, never disappointed, they go above and beyond! They completely help you and guide you if you have a certain price range for a order. I received for my dance recitals huge white roses grouped together with the most elegant ribbon wrapped around!!! Love their work!!!

If I could give negative stars I would.
Yesterday I spoke with a very nice lady on the phone. I wanted an arrangement of all peonies delivered to my house as soon as possible. I even said I would wait, if I couldn’t get fresh peonies the next day. We discussed a low arrangement of just peonies and no other flowers. I paid close to $ 200. I like my arrangements simple and neat. What I received was a mix of all sorts of flowers of all different flowers.
When I called to complain, the person on the phone was so RUDE and UNAPOLOGETIC she practically blamed me for their mistake. Since the kind lady I spoke with was not there, she said the designer relied on her poor notes and created a disaster of flowers. When I asked if she could create the correct arrangement, she said for the amount I paid I would only get 8 – 10 peonies (for 184 dollars), even with their callous mistake. I asked for a refund, and she demanded that I put the arrangement outside my house «if I live in a safe place». Is she kidding? While I was looking for a reliable and lovely florist for weekly deliveries in South County, rudeness like this should not be tolerated. Clearly this will not be my florist in South County.

Their window display caught my eye so I asked my husband to pull over so we can stop in to browse. At first, I didn’t know that it was a floral shop but it became obvious pretty quickly when we got out of the car.
The store was beautifully decorated with christmas trees and various high-​end, delicate christmas décor. I didn’t want to touch anything for fear of breaking something. The tree in the front window gave me tree envy and luckily they had the supplies tucked underneath to purchase. Unfortunately, they didn’t have the ribbon that caught my eye but I at least got the vendor and hope to find another retailer that carries it.
A gal working came from the back room let us know that if we needed anything to holler and disappeared into the back again. We appreciated that she didn’t hover over us and just let us admire their work and decorations.
We left empty handed but I left with a lot of great ideas for making holiday arrangements for our home this year. I wish I lived nearby though — I can tell they produce quality arrangements and having a good florist nearby is always nice to have.

I used Black Iris for the flowers for my October 2009 wedding and they were amazing. I was just looking at my wedding pictures and thought I better hurry up and put in a review so everyone knows to use them as well.
I had heard about Black Iris but honestly thought that they would be too expensive. I tried many different local florists but found that all of them were very vague about their pricing and that they wanted me to know exactly what I wanted. The only thing that I knew was that I wanted purple orchids. As soon as I walked into the Black Iris I knew they were exactly what I was looking for. I was taken to the back and the designer immediately started grabbing flowers and holding them together to get my feedback. Within about 10 minutes she designed bouquets that were everything I didn’t know I wanted complete with the purple orchids I was looking for. And the best part was that they were extremely affordable!
I walked out of the Black Iris and was confident in my decision. On the day of the wedding the flowers showed up and were even prettier and more vibrant than I ever would have imagined! My now husband had a single purple orchid boutonnière and it was beautiful.
I couldn’t have been more happy with my experience at the Black Iris. I am looking forward to using them for my floral needs going forward.

The Black Iris is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! I just received a dozen red roses in the most gorgeous arrangement that you have ever seen! A MUST FOR VALENTINES DAY! The prices are great especially for the quality of the flowers and the way they are artfully displayed. You will not be disappointed!

I first contacted Black Iris after I saw one of their beautiful and exotic designs that a coworker received for her birthday. I have never been inside the Black Iris, nor have I ever seen in person any of the arrangements that I have had them send to friends and relatives. The reason I highly recommend this place is because no matter where you need to send flowers, they locate a florist/​vendor of equal caliber near your recipient and ensure that s/​he receives an exquisite floral arrangement. I have sent flowers to people in West Palm Beach, Fla., and San Francisco. I tell Black Iris the kind of arrangement I’m looking for (and if you don’t know, they’ll help you decide) and the price I want to spend. Everything’s done over the phone, including the inscription on the card. I always get a call full of thanks for (and awe at) a spectacular arrangement. It’s high-​end and sophisticated floral, and it’s worth the price, especially for special occasions. Ask for Rickie; she’ll take care of everything. And she’ll make a note of those flowers you sent your mother on her birthday, and call you up next year when Mom’s birthday is approaching. It’s business-​savvy without being obnoxious, and it’s caring without being intrusive.
