Established in 1988.

About Us

Gem Mountain Studios is a family owned and operated business and Design Studio founded in 1988 at the Pike Place Market in Seattle Washington. We kept our store there for 12 years, then decided to come back to southern California in 1999 and open up our flagship store in Laguna Beach, in beautiful Southern California. Over the years we have been continually creating and designing new and exciting jewelry.

Hi folks, my name is Baruch Kaufman, I am a firm believer in the mentality that hard work pays off, thus I am very passionate about everything I do.

I manage the day to day operations for Gem Mountain Studios where I design and fabricate original jewelry in beautiful Laguna Beach and have the opportunity to spend time in one of the most beautiful beach towns in the world. I am fortunate to be a part of this family business which has been going successfully for 20+ years and has an amazingly loyal group of long term repeat customers.

My ultimate goal is to live a life of purpose with no regrets.

Everytime I come to this part of California, I must make a trip to this wonderful store. The proprietors are awesome and the jewelry is the most unique and beautiful I have seen. Most of the pieces are made by hand and the stones are very rare and unique as well.
If you are in the Laguna Beach area, you must stop there.

Hey thought I would update that putting silver in plastic bag when storing helps prevent tarnishing. My necklace still has not tarnished!

Very lovely jewelry, but only a month after my husband purchased a necklace and earings there for our anniversary, the silver was all tarnished. Had to get the silver polish out to polish it. Even had to add a new chain as the chain was totally black! Today I went to wear the jewelry and the necklace pendant and earings were tarnished again. So out came the silver polish again. What an inconvenience! Then while polishing it, the earing and the piece that hangs in ear came apart. So my husband had to get his tools out to fix it. I have purchased costume jewelry at a fraction of the cost that wears far better than these products. So I do not recommend this place even though the jewelry is beautifully designed. And I would not purchase anything there again — ever!

I bought a sterling silver ring here 1.5 years ago for what I thought was an amazing price. The center stone is a sizable synthetic white topaz and the side stones are opal composite. It is gorgeous! This ring still looks brand new with no scratches or discoloration. The materials they used are holding up beautifully and the craftsmanship is perfect!

Stopped for lunch at The Cliff today with my husband and mother-​in-​law, and the crystals in the window really caught my attention — they were breath-​taking !! Wandered in to look at them since we had a short wait for lunch and fell in love with a lovely piece of silver wire-​wrapped aqua aura on a silver chain. The owner answered my tons of questions about his crystals and where he got them and his gems from — it was a very engaging conversation. I can’t afford the prices on aquamarine (which I covet), but the aqua aura is a lovely and similar color. His work is beautiful and you can tell he is very passionate. Might have to pick up another piece next time we make the drive from the I.E. to south O.C. What a beautiful, little shop with a lot of magickal energy !!

This is an amazing little «gem» of a jewelry design studio. My father faceted beautiful gemstones and Baruch has worked his artistry to compliment them perfectly. His designd are simple flowing and very creative. He is very responsive to your wishes and can create an amazing jewely piece for you. He can do custom work for you while you wait. He is an award winning designer and I receive compliments every time I wear his jewelry. I should mention he has hundreds of pieces he has created bueatifully displayed in his shop, you won’t know which one to purchase.

What a wonderful store! The owner would ask great questions, making sure I was getting the ring I would really want. My favorite part was that the owner was not pushy. You felt like you were talking with a friend. His Jewelry is AMAZING!!!

The owner makes his own jewelry and can tell you the story behind each piece. I will definately by from here again.

The absolute gem of Laguna beach and the staff is as fantastic as the jewelry designs. Baruch, one of the designers, was on site MAKING pieces while we were there — so awesome. If you take the time to talk to him, he’ll explain his inspiration for the pieces and the origin of the gems.

The craftsmanship of this jewelry is incredible. Their designs are really captivating, and the work they do is very high quality. My wife saw their exhibit at the sawdust festival during the summer and absolutely loved their jewelry. Now (7 months later) I have bought her one of their necklaces and she is so happy with it. It’s a family-​owned local business, and they are really great people. I’d definitely recommend checking out this shop and supporting them.

I came across this studio while on vacation. The owner was very friendly and helpful. I found a pair of earrings, but they were not the stone I wanted. Within five minutes a pair of earrings were made exactly as I wanted. While in the studio I noticed a necklace design using foreign currency. I asked as to whether I could mail a coin I had and have it made into the necklaces I saw in the studio. I was told it would not be a problem at all and I have to tell you it was so easy to mail my coin and have the design created. I received the completed product today and it is BEAUTIFUL ! The price was also very affordable.

LOVE this shop! Perfectly handcrafted jewelry that the shop owner and his dad have been creating together for years. Unfortunately his dad passed away so the son is now taking care of all the jewelry and he is kind, courteous, and helpful.
I spotted a beautiful ring here that I just had to have and it is one of the most sparkly and eye catching pieces of jewelry I own. I constantly get compliments on it and I always refer them back to the studio if they’re looking for something classy, delicate, and UNIQUE. All his pieces are handmade one of a kind originals (although he switches the metals if you prefer gold vs silver or any other metal). He also has some more flashy styles if that’s your thing, I prefer delicate and understated so he caters to both which is nice.
I picked up a necklace here as well as his signature style «The Laguna Wave» earrings for two friends of mine who LOVED them. They really capture the light in a brilliant fashion.
PLUS he has special sales on the weekends!
I am positive I will be back to visit him in the future :)

I rarely, rarely give 5-​stars but this little store has the right price points and hand-​designed rings, necklaces that are perfect to give as gifts as well as purchase for yourself. It is also located in the heart of the Laguna Hills Arts District and a great place to stroll, eat and shop. I get compliments every time I wear my Fountain Design pendant! My relative who lives nearby, brings everyone who visits over to the store – a go to place if you’re gift shopping in the Laguna Beach area. Berran, who helped my boyfriend pick out a gift for me also mentioned the store’s friendly repair and jewelry service, where you can mail back your jewelry just in case of repair or resetting. Also sold in the store are beautiful crystals as well as handmade gifts. You can also find the same items on their website, which also announces deep discounts and sales on certain items. But nothing beats visiting a very beautiful shop along the beach with a breathtaking view!
