Established in 1984.

Edward has always had a passion for technology and computers. In 1981, he inherited his ailing mothers’ grocery store and almost immediately purchased a computer to help run the business better.

His first computer was a Radio Shack Model II, which predated the PC. Edward fell in love with computers and quickly became a computer expert. Word spread about his technical skills and he fell into providing technical support and consulting to individuals and small businesses on a part-​time basis in 1984.

Over time, we have witnessed the growing complexity of technology that indiviuals and small businesses use and are dependent upon.

We have also witnessed the shortage of professional, honest and friendly technical support options available.

Edward Z.

Business Owner

Edward has lived in the Bay Area since 1961. He earned a BA from St. Mary’s College in Moraga, and an MBA from the University of Phoenix. Edward is a licensed real estate broker, and holds numerous technical certifications, including Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer, Certified Technical Project Manager, and Certified Technical Trainer.

Edward has owned several businesses, including a convenience grocery store in Oakland, a real estate brokerage firm, and Nerd4Rent, Inc. Edward has also managed the technical services departments of several large companies, with up to 75 technicians and mangers in his group. Edward has been a member of the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce since 1995, and is a member of the Board of Directors, and chairs the Technology Committee.

The common theme in every business that Edward owns or manages is outstanding customer service. His business philosophy is to «deliver what you promise», with an emphasis on old-​fashioned, friendly service.

Did not get rid of the virus’s on our computer, and basically told us we needed a new computer. We took the Sam computer to the Geek Squad, since nerd for rent did not fix the computer and charged us $ 175. The Geek Squad, fixed the computer and it is working beautiful. We would not recommend Nerd for Rent

This is a great service and worth every penny! Ryan came to our house and worked fast to make our home network function properly. He finished all of our ‘to do’ items in under an hour. My wife and I have used Nerd4Rent for about a million years now. I can’t tell you how thoughtful and efficient both Ed and Mark are. On their first visit to our home Mark worked on 2 computers and a laptop and had them humming in no time at all. Now they keep all 3 of our work computers going as well as 3 computers at home. Great service, I am so impressed. The tech, Ryan, was the fastest thing EVER. Super knowledgeable and professional. It may seem pricey but it’s not, as they are so fast. Very pleased with the service and the price. Edward visited my home office yesterday to rectify (what I hoped) was a minor configuration issue. It wasn’t, but he was able to find a practical and inexpensive (read: free) workaround.
This is the first time I’ve used Nerd4Rent, and, as said above, I’m very pleased. I’d use them again, and I’d recommend them to anyone who asked.

The true value of service is seen when things don’t go as planned. My daughter’s Windows 7 machine was infected with a virus that standard virus protection could not detect or remedy. The first attempt to solve the problem was unsuccessful but Ed, the owner, took over responsibility for a resolution that was much more involved that the original estimate. I’d already paid for the second visit but Ed offered to refund that fee due to the inconvenience of not resolving the issue on the first attempt. He also picked up and delivered the machine at my convenience.

I love this company!
I work for a small business (a church) and we don’t have the resources for an IT person. I’ve relied on the amazing staff of Nerd4Rent for the last 6 years. They just wasted my time, and cost me at least a day without a computer.
I have an iMac and got the black screen of death. I called to ask if they worked on Macs, and they said «Yes.» Fine, I arranged to get my computer there before I had to be somewhere so that I could get the process of fixing it/​saving the data/​slitting my wrists started.
I arrive, plug it in, get the black screen and the guy in back, who can’t be bothered to get up from his desk, tells the very nice receptionist «Tell him to take it to the Apple Store.» I’m standing 15 feet away — maybe he could say to me, «Take it to the Apple Store,» but apparently it was important for me to realize that I wasn’t worth his valuable time.
If you say you can work on Macs, that generally means you can work on Macs — and if you can only solve really simple problems, you should say so. You shouldn’t mislead customers as to your capabilities, and you should, if you have done so, at least have the courage to get up from your desk, say «I’m sorry» and acknowledge you’ve wasted someone’s valuable time and perhaps cost them a day without their computer.
Horrible business practices and customer relations from top to bottom.

My computer is my business. When my computer was virally corrupted, Nerds4rent was there, immediately. Not only did they remove the virus, they did a performance update of my computer and my software. I now boot up quickly, my apps work quickly, I am back in business and I can Unilocal and Unilocal about them.
