Love this little gem. Fun atmosphere and next to a large brook. Their Pilgram plate is fantastic and try the Dutch Onion soup. Always adding nice salads and sides. Friendly service and home made baked goods.

Very cute lunch spot in Lafayette, NJ. Their fresh turkey BLT was tasty as well as their grilled chicken mozzarella sandwich. Their pie was decent but not fresh. A little disappointing since its summer and their is an abundance of farmers markets nearby. The staff were friendly but the service was very average. We asked for a slice of pie after finishing our sandwiches and the response was less than pleasant. Not sure why you would want to scare away customers when they are looking to give you more business. Overall a decent lunch if you are in the area, but I can’t say I’ll be back anytime soon.

Be forewarned… while there are prices for food on the wall there are not prices for drinks… considering the drinks(two iced teas and a lemonade) cost $ 4 each and more than the actual food bill I was a bit surprised by it… staff simply said sorry we don’t set the prices. shocking to say the least… saving grace was a decent taylor ham egg and cheese.

3 stars because I’ve been here many times over the years– it’s a regular stop for us en route from Hoboken, NJ to Lake Ariel, PA– and the breakfast/lunch offerings are great, the ambience charming(antique/country cottage) and the people generally friendly. The big negative of this place is that they consistently close early and are not accommodating. If you are going to close your kitchen at 2:30 so YOU can be out the door by 3, well then you shouldn’t list your hours 8 – 3. With limited food options in the area, it pretty much sucks that we miss out on lunch because we arrive at 2:40. You should be more clear about the hours you are actually open for business. Just my 2 cents.

This was my first time at this place and I was not disappointed. It had a great country setting and a friendly staff. I got the French dip which was very good and very filling. Everything on the menu seemed great so another time back will be in order. Only a couple of issues: no French fries and only Boylans cola. Other than that I would certainly recommend stopping in for lunch if you find yourself in the area.

I’ve been here twice, both times had delicious sandwiches. Roast beef dip and cajun wrap. My only two reasons why I didn’t give more stars is because — i know this sounds petty — they only carry Boylans brand soda which is noooo good and no fries! NOFRENCHFRIES! Other than that it’s an adorable place with yummy lunch.

To often people complain based solely on a single experience. Everyone has a bad day. Today I was looking on Unilocal to find a place for a bite to eat with my husband and 2 year old. Unilocal reviews would steer me away from this place, but we gave it a chance. The service was not nearly as poor as previous post suggest. It’s a luncheonette, not a chain restaurant. The woman were friendly and accommodating. our waitress went out of her way to find a toy car for our impatient young boy. Which made our experience even better.(I wish I caught her name) Our food was good! I had a pastrami Reuben and my husband had the roast beef sandwich. Try the homemade lemonade!

Stopped here after driving back from a two day stay at a friends house on Delaware River and were hungry. We had our little dog with us so were looking for a place with outdoor seating. When we saw this charming little village and the restaurant we decided to give it a try. It was about 2 pm, place was empty and the weather was beautiful so porch was perfect. I will say I was a bit puzzled by the aloof nature of the wait staff. Went inside to read a menu and after reading spoke to the counter person about ordering, but she quickly snapped«You’re at the table outside right?, we will bring menus to the table». I thought OK, but no-one came out to greet us so assumed it was order at the counter. Anyway, it still took an additional 5 minutes for our waitress to come out, set our table and take orders. This all went smooth and she was very friendly, items on menu were a bit unique and progressive for the look of this place, so I was a bit skeptical. To my surprise, food arrived timely and all was great! My sons cajun beef wrap was awesome and my daughter loved her Chicken Mozz panini! My wife and I ordered conventional burgers to be safe and they were terrific as well! The waitress came outside asked how everything was and then left the bill. Daughter wanted Ice cream so went back in to select a flavor, waitress was helpful and let us sample which we did and purchased two cones that were more than satisfactory. Then the same thing happened again were no-one came out to collect the bill, so I went inside and stood at the counter where our waitress was cleaning up for the day(Thats when I realized the place closes at 3 and we were the last patrons) and another was talking to her while not doing much at all. Finally after about 2 minutes watching this, I interrupted them saying«do I pay here?» Then our waitress asked the other to ring me up, but I don’t know, it felt like I didn’t know the custom there. Anyway, 4 stars for location(which is part of the Lafayette Mill Antique Village), charming ambience, and food. Minus 1 star for strange and inattentive service, not rude, but a bit Twilightzonesque.

I went here for breakfast, they open at 7:00am. One of the BEST omelets I ever had. The coffee was also excellent, I drink it black. Service was also fast. Atmosphere is rustic and very nice. Early is the key here… it gets crowded.

Wow. We came for a nice Mother’s day brunch. There were like 3 tables outside, and one inside besides us. Three waitresses working. We watched one eating pie behind the counter while we waiter more than TENMINUTES for anyone to even take a drink order. Seriously, no thanks. The food is crap and the servers are nasty.

** warning ** — don’t eat here if you’re really hungry. — expect a long wait for your food. I took my sister to this café to eat one afternoon. We walked in around 1:40pm, I wrote my name down after noticing there was a sign up sheet and we waited to be seated. Shortly after the waitress sat us and we waited patiently for the waitress to take our order. Twenty minutes or so passed and the waitress finally came over to us asking us what we wanted to drink. By then we already had enough time to decide what we wanted so we quickly ordered everything we wanted rather then our drinks first. ONEHOURLATER, our food finally arrived. It was nothing extravagant, it was simply a turkey wrap, a burger, and onion soup, and two hot chocolates. During the time we waited(about 40 min in), my sister had to tell the waitress to at least give us the onion soup; so she did. By then. It was already 3pm and they were not longer accepting people to get in because they close 3. One of the waitress took my plate without me finishing my salad and said«we close at 3» I was planning on finishing my salad and her lack of manners made me feel unwelcome as if she was throwing me out. I didn’t say anything; I avoided creating drama so we left. Also I noticed 16 tables, 2 – 5 people on each table, a lot to handle for two waitresses. A few people left because they were possibly waiting as long as we did. One guy even walked to the cashier as he was leaving and said«your service is horrible» I honestly don’t understand why the wait was so long. I completely understand if it’s a popular place like Serendipity in NYC, due to its location, the amount of people who walk in and their famous/delicious dishes they have but here in this small café on a small town off the road!!! I just don’t get it. I was so disappointed on this experience that I did not tip at all. I usually give 18% tips in any place I walk in and if the waitress/waiter is really nice to me, I usually tip 20% + but here, the service was just bad, I didn’t even bother. My advice, if you’re in rush, don’t even walk in; it’ll ruin your day. If you want a coffee, walk in and take it to go. Or simply drive on 15N for about 5 min so you can get your coffee in DD.

We ate here on a Saturday morning. The place was half full. A young lady quickly brought us a high chair, menus and coffee while we awaited the rest of our party to arrive. That was the end of the good service. A server finally appeared and briskly asked us what we wanted. About five minutes later she brought food to the table, but it wasn’t ours, so she quickly snatched it away and served the proper table. When our food did arrive she had no idea who got what. We ordered a short stack of pancakes to be shared by my two toddler grandsons. She forgot the empty second plate. She brought the wrong dish to my daughter-in-law, had to it to the kitchen. In a few minutes she brought the correct food, but still forgot the extra plate. My wife ordered a short stack with crispy bacon. She got dried out pancakes and limp bacon. I order the omelet of the day, which was very good. We were never offered refills for our coffee until we were almost ready to leave. I had toast but was not offered jam or jelly to go with it. My grandsons hardly touched their pancakes, probably because they were so dry. My wife said they tasted they were made with a boxed mix using water. All in all not a real enjoyable experience. To be fair I’ve eaten here before and both the food and service were much better. I guess they were just having an off day.

We love this place. We’re regulars and have to say best restaurant in Sussex County and one of best in NJ. If you like freshly prepared wholesome foods with a gourmet touch, this is the place. Consistently top quality and great service. Our favorites include Pilgrim Plate(turkey dinner in a sandwhich), French Onion soup, club sandwich, stuffed mushrooms(garlic heaven), the Milkshakes, and pretty much everything on the menu. Highly recommend!

On a crisp fall day in October on the way to Stokes Forest to collect and bottle fresh spring water, my lady friend and I stopped here for some lunch. The décor was charming country farmhouse complete with enameled metal tables, with a fantastic view of the roaring stream directly outside of this former mill, hence the name of this café. We started off with yellow split pea soup– was the perfect accompaniment to the weather, home made, tasty– perfect. Next up, I had an excellent turkey club on mutigrain bread served with corn relish on the side– fantastic with one exception– too much mayonaise– its always a good idea to let people add their own, some might even return their meal especially if served with this much mayo. My lady friend had a grilled veggie wrap that was pretty good too, I tried a bite. The place was so nice that on the way home, we stopped in again for tea, coffee and a lil slice of apple crumb pie heaven. I will be back.

I had lunch there twice with some friends and breakfast yesterday(Sunday) morning with my family. The food is good. I myself have not had any problems with the service or the food being bland(and I do NOT give out 5 stars easily). Everything is made to order, they do have some home made bakery items and some are retail bakery purchased(like their muffins). Nice, casual, quaint, country place to eat. You have a choice to eat inside or outside. My family, friends and myself do enjoy eating here. You should enjoy this place.

A hidden treat. Surrounded by antique shops, this little gem fits right into the antique community in Lafayette. The prices are fair, the menu is simple and good. This is a great place for breakfast and lunch. For breakfast their choices of various pancakes always leaving me debating which one to try next. I’m a fan of their banana pancakes! For lunch i’ve had some of their toasted sandwiches. Excellent texture, not greasy, but crisp. Accompanied by a small side salad and chips, it wasn’t too large a portion, and you leave feeling sated. The only negative comments I have, is the café only takes cash and the service can sometimes leave something to be desired. It really depends on your mind set. When i go here with a friend to chat and have a leisurely meal, then this is the perfect venue. If I need to be in/out the door for a quick lunch, I wouldn’t suggest this location.

I have to say I don’t get the other reviews. We’ve been here twice, both times on Sunday in the early afternoon and each time there was very small selection of «homebaked» goods that were sitting in loosely wrapped cellophane and just looked completely uninspiring. The cranberry muffin was dry and chalky and the chocolate chip cookie’s dough was way undercooked and chewy, but not in a good way. My guess is that the cooked meals are better than something you can grab with a cup of coffee as you roam the beautiful stores in this historic town… I wouldn’t try the stuff on the counter again, but again, I never ordered a meal here, just their«homebaked» selections.

The Millside Café is set by a babbling brook, is old country, homey, and surrounded by Antique shops. It was the perfect place to sit outside on the beautiful fall day we had this past weekend. To keep us warm we ordered hot apple cider, which was perfect for the atmosphere. We got the Bruschetta appetizer to share. I don’t like tomatoes and I couldn’t pass it up – it was amazing. For lunch, I got the Cajun Roast Beef Wrap. It came with a pickle, chips, and small salad. Everything was delicious and the waitress was great. If I return to the area, I will definitely be back. **CASHONLY**
