History

Established in 1865.

Underwood Insurance was founded in Lafayette, Indiana by Thomas Underwood. It has remained a local family business and is currently owned by Craig W. Graham, the great, great grandson of Thomas Underwood. The original Underwood Office was built in 1869. It still stands today at its original location on 310 Ferry Street.

«I am the great, great, grandson of Thomas Underwood who, in 1865, traveled home after serving with Sherman in the Civil War and started The Underwood Agency.

I was born and raised in West Lafayette, graduated from Klondike High School and have a BA from Purdue University. I began my career in the insurance profession with ISU-​Underwood Agency in 1972. I have had the good fortune through this business to meet and work with many fine people in Greater Lafayette and throughout the State of Indiana. I have and continue to serve on numerous not –for-​profit boards in Tippecanoe County and the State of Indiana.

For me, the most interesting facets of the insurance business is the people you meet and the continuous motion of the profession.

I am married to a wonderful woman and we have five great children.»
