Flatirons Community Church

This was the 1^st church on a list of many my husband and I planned to check out when we first moved to CO almost 5yrs ago, and we never looked back! This church has been extremely instrumental in deepening my relationship with God. Their «me too» attitude makes you feel very comfortable, unlike some churches that can make you feel not good enough to be there. They are accepting and loving of everyone.
I’ve heard murmurs from certain groups of people that the only reason this church is so popular and growing is because of it’s «concert-​like» music, and because it doesn’t teach from he bible. Clearly these people have never sat through a service here. They stand by every word in the bible 100%, especially in light of a lot of changes happening in our world today. Every service requires you to open and engage with your bible, if you choose to do so. And they never spin anything that came from God to push their own agenda.
The truth of the matter is this church is so popular and growing so quickly because it speaks the truth. Which is lacking these days. Jim & Scott are amazing pastors and teachers. You don’t have to feel ashamed of your past or current situation. You don’t have to feel like you need to be someone you’re not to walk through these doors. This church will love you like Jesus loves you. Come and see.

This place has made an incredible difference in the lives of my family and I. Love it here.

We plan to live in Colorado for the rest of our lives if it means we can attend Flatirons church. It’s massive with a ton of people but there’s a reason it’s the largest church in Colorado. They focus on God’s truth, no matter what the world says. The pastor and the team is amazing. I cannot rave enough about this place. You have to come and see it to fully understand why they are so successful.

Best church I’ve ever been too… I’ve flown out, from Maryland, twice in the last year and half just to attend weekend services. I’d put with the traffic or whatever it takes to get there.

Literally the best church I have ever been to. And I grew up in church and even went to catholic high school. I have never found a place I fit in and felt understood until I found Fatirons. I’ve tried many religions and just could not deal with the repetition of the same songs, the same sermons, the priest and clergy who had no personality or speaking skills and the robotic stand, kneel, sit, stand, kneel sit. and let’s not mention the 100 saying and responses you have to remember for every prayer and you feel ashamed if everyone around you is repeating things you don’t know or remember. ahh I don’t like thinking of those memories. And let me tell you, you will have none of those bad memories here at Flatirons.
Flatirons church is just great, Jim and Scott are such great speakers, and the other individuals who come and do talks sometimes are always great. This place just hires great people; and I think it’s because they all actually want to be there! Just like the 5,000 people who come to church every weekend! So yes, it is a big church, I admit, sometimes I do have to sit in the lobby chairs, which makes me feel further away and not as involved in the intimate dim connection of the inside of the auditorium, but that’s happened to me twice in the last 4 months since I’ve been going to the church, and it’s partially my fault for not arriving early! Oh and did I mention theres free coffee and bagels? Like come on, no excuse to miss Sunday morning service now. And they have TONS of activities for everyone — kids, moms, women, men, dad’s. even a kids ministry for your little ones during church service times. awesome.
Seriously, I never knew I would love church and God again until I found this non denominational church. And I love how they break up the talks into series, so I feel like I am learning in tangible doses and following a lesson plan. like this month we will learn on how to be a better husband and wife in God’s eyes. and next month we learn about how to have confidence and grow our faith through the years of uncertainty and etc etc. it’s always good. I promise. And if you’re hesitant, do what I did and go on their website and watch the service videos they upload. you can literally watch a whole Sunday service on their site. Again another excuse not to receive the word and teachings of God — you miss a service or just feel better being alone, watch it online!
There truly are nothing bad I can say about this church, and coming from me, although you may not know me, know that that is saying A LOT!

This church is were its at!!! Check it out of you haven’t been, makes my week better when I go. They are not snooty, stiff necked religious people at all like I’ve experienced with other churches. I really loved this church the people are so warm and welcoming, you automatically feel like your at home when you walk through the door. If your looking for a church look no further, go to Flatiorns! Go to there web sight to see other campus’s if this one is to far they have them spread out in the metro area. We go to the paramount theater every Sunday because it’s close to home.

I went to the downtown Denver location and was pretty disappointed for several reasons. To start, it is borderline impossible to find. It is tucked almost within the 16^th street mall without an obvious sign. Once I did find it I had no idea where to park. I ended up paying $ 10 to park for one hour. I assumed I missed the correct place to park, so I asked a church greeter who told me if I had parked in a different lot (even farther from the one where I parked) I could have $ 3 taken off the parking cost. I think having to pay to park at church is a tad ridiculous. Fortunately, the greeters were very warm and they had a deaf interpreter. I missed the first few worship songs due to the parking debacle, but the «worship» song they were playing when I walked in was American Honey by Lady Antebellum. Don’t get me wrong, its a great song! But I don’t see how it has any relationship to worshipping Jesus. Then I was pretty disappointed to see that there wasn’t a live pastor, rather a recording from a service from the previous night. I tried to get into it but I didn’t connect with the pastor; a great deal of the time he spoke his hands were in his pockets and he was looking down at his notes. The message was just like one we’ve heard many times before. They ended with a song about Jesus so that was nice. However, the cons greatly outweigh the pros. The whole experience was very lukewarm. I definitely would not go back.

I had quit going to church over 30 years ago. I did try Crossroads a couple of years ago & although it was pleasant, I found it very boring & at times I dreaded going. I realized I only went for a friend of mine & finally quit. I longed for a real church that would be my home church & prayed about it so much. After I started dating this wonderful man, he invited me to Flatirons. That was over a year ago! I love Flatirons!!! Jim& Scott tell it like it is & preach from the Bible. God is truly present at Flatirons Church.

Truth, Grace, Love. This is a special place — the Bible is preached unapologetic-​ally and unfiltered.

Just can’t say enough good things about Flatirons! Amazing kids ministry, especially for children with special needs. Check it out!

It’s for the lost and the broken cause life is hard. Because religion doesn’t heal your hurt, grace does. This church is a place where everyone is welcome, everyone! What sin breaks my link to God is no better or worse than any other. A place where you can belong before you believe. A place where a person can say out loud I got SHIT going on in my life and the response from the church comes back me too, come and see. Flatirons does lots of community outreach and service. Its made me a better person. I live in Lafayette and traffic happens two days a week and the church pays for police traffic out of their own pocket.

I went here for awhile. Jim and Scott speak in a cool way– people respond well to their «tell-​it-​how-​it-​is» style. The worship is concert-​like. Pros– This church is great for people that have been turned off from Christianity/​religion.
There are PLENTY of ways to get involved in this church. So that’s on you.
Cons– catholic people probably won’t like this church… The pastors poke fun of it.
Con– a lot of times, the sermons are mostly based on who flatirons is, what They are doing, and how They are different. They focus a lot on that– probably so people know that they can relax there. But I wish those sermons focused more on how we can relax with Jesus.

I tried flat irons a few times before I realized that they don’t care about me as an individual. Just for money and another person to add to make them the biggest church in America. Their agenda is not about community, missions, and God but rather about becoming a mass church and making money to buy up all of Lafayette. «Me too» is just a ploy– I stopped going and doubtful anybody noticed. Whenever I did come nobody said a word to me. And worship is about worshipping our Father– not about a show. This isn’t a concert venue.

My wife and I had a different perception of this Church. Mixing secular music in with worship, a «Wall of tattoos» paying homage to body décor, and the pastor explaining that he put tattoos on himself to give him a connection with nonbelievers. No one is perfect, we all fall short of the Glory of God. But if someone lost comes in and experiences these things… maybe they think… its OK, Christians do it. Not the type of Church we’ll be supporting.

I have been apart of church atmospheres my whole life. After 20 years of going to a church I had grown up in and called home things began to change. I became broken, discouraged and it was hard to grow in my faith with seeker friendly services that watered down truth and was more concerned with growing numbers than the accountability and growth of there faithful congregation. I was stuck and unsatisfied.
I was engaged when my fiancé at the time made the decision to find a church we could both grow in. We visited FCC and never left. I cried for almost two months every weekend because of the refreshing messages that had me thinking all week long. I began a healing process from my past brokeness. My husband and I have gone to FCC now for over 7 years. We serve in the café where we have built community.
While I watch FCC change in size I have to be honest and say I am worried sometimes because that is what happened to my old church before it changed. I love watching Jim and Scott focus more and more each week on the truth of God’s word. I love the challeng to be accountable to our lives in Christ. They always go right to the word and nock down any misconceptions about Scripture. They don’t have fill in the blank seeker friendly watered down messages. They introduce people to a merciful Jesus in such a real way, at the same time they challenge with gracious conviction those who already now Him.
I would give FCC a 4 only because its not always an atmosphere for everyone but for the most part i would invite everyone to come and try out the amazing experience.

I visited this church to observe the ASL interpreter. The experience was nothing like I have had before!
First of all the church is huge and people line up early just to get inside.
Everything was pretty causal and the service was really loud! But the pastor was very engaging and funny, I couldn’t believe how much I laughed.
The sermon focused on applying messages from the bible to everyday experiences which I really liked.

I’ve tried many churches, heck religions. Nothing has spoke to me the way Flatirons does. It’s huge, overwhelming to somee who don’t give it a chance. It was easy for me to ease into it because it is so big, you can get lost in the shuffle IF you want to. I’ve never wanted to be singled out as a new person and that happens and it turns me off to church. Here, there are many social groups and volunteer /​community opportunities that you can choose to partake in.
Most importantly, they speak to you in real life terms. Today’s real life. The pastors relate to issues that we all have and tell the stories from the bible in that way.
Give it a chance for yourself.

I would like to start by saying I was in a bad place in my life when I found Flatirons. It is by far the most accepting church I have been too. I always felt uncomfortable and guilty in other churches my entire life but not this one.
They are very accepting and non judgmental of every one including gay people. I would probably wager that Jane W has never set foot in Flatirons. Also if she would have attended the service after the boulder daily camera article and hear Pastor Jim’s response to a very one sided article I think her take might be a little different.
Some may also think that this is a church for young people but it is not. I am 35 and my parents in their sixties recently started attending regularly after I invited them.
I can talk all day about how wonderful Flatirons community church is but why don’t you just come and see for yourself? Worst cast scenario you don’t like it and never have return, but it could also be just the place you have been looking for…

WOW!
First, I’m not a religious fanatic or a spiritual guru looking to «spread the word», hand out pamphlets, or have you listen to my testimony.
And that is why I really dig this «church.» It is like no other church I’ve been to.
They start the «service» off with a loud Rock-​n-​Roll Band (this night they kicked it off with «Sharp Dressed Man» by ZZ Top. It’s their way of getting the folks from the lobby into the enormous big screened, live TV fed auditorium (not pulpit).
The set list contained a few spiritual songs, and finished with Eminen’s «The Monster»…expertly rapped by the pastor’s son and sung incredibly by a young powerful female voice that would rival Rihanna’s!
Then Pastor Jim comes out, T shirt… Khakis, bald head and just commands the room with his honesty, message, boyish charm… passion. slight A.D.D. delivery and just enough off the cuff humor to keep your attention.
He is electric. He is sincere. He is committed. He is open. He is real.
He has a way of massaging his faith, with his beliefs and his message of the day into your own beliefs. and spirit without turning you off or closing your mind.
That was an hour of my life I’d gladly give up (again).

I am proud to call Flatirons Community Church (FCC) my home, and I enjoy serving here on certain weekends as well. The messages here have been the biggest reason as to why my wife and I have kept coming back. They do not hold back on tough topics like many «mainstream» mega-​churches employ in order to appease their congregations. At times the pastor’s rub shoulders the wrong way. Not necessarily because that is the desired intent, but in most cases it is because the truth tends to hurt.
I can definitely admit that the message given on any number of weekends have been pointed towards my own situation. I don’t want to say that guilt is purposefully employed, but in order to make right what is wrong things need to be point out. It is almost always presented in a loving manner, though.
From my own experience it is easy to see why people might not want to attend here, mainly because the services are so large… and parking tends to be a bit crazy. My recommendation for any new people would be to come early and come to one of the earlier services on Saturday night (the 5pm service) or Sunday morning (the 9am service).
If one wants to, though, the services are always posted online. One can attend their local church (whether they live in CO or are stationed in another country) and get the experience of the messages from Flatirons. If we happened to move too far to attend, this would almost certainly be the way we would do it.
It is completely understandable, though, why some people that live in this community may not enjoy the traffic disruptions that occur during the weekend service times. That is a difficult thing to get around, I don’t contest that. My hope is that the church is not merely judged by this fact, but I also hope that those that attend here will also be as considerate as possible so as to lessen the burden to the community when they come.
Lastly, Flatirons is not just weekend services. They have a Craigslist-​like site (called Flatirons-​list) where people in the community post small group meeting times and locations, including themes. Also, FCC has a Friday evening gathering called SHIFT. This gathering breaks up into small groups for issue specific talks. The thing about this is that this is something anyone can and everyone probably should attend. The regular church size may scare some people away, but this could probably alleviate that.
During the times of the weekend services, though, they do offer excellent Sunday school for children from newborns to 5^th graders.
There are so many things that could be added to this review, so the best options are to check it out in person for yourself and/​or check out their website. It’ll give more info on all the different programs/​seminars that are coming up as well as the chance to check out one of the messages online (in fact, the messages can be downloaded through iTunes, either in audio or video format).
