Econo Lodge Inn & Suites

This was what I expected for the price. It was a great place to crash on a road trip. It was a bit outdated but clean, the shower was hot, and the service was friendly. They have a continental breakfast, but I can’t speak to that because I accidentally slept through it! I did notice just while walking by the gym that all of the treadmills were out of order. If you’re planning on working out here I’d call ahead to check. Overall though, for $ 50, this was a great place to stay!

Checked in just before midnight on 7÷10÷15 with my family. I asked the front desk employee for the pool hours and she says the pool is CLOSED! I was really upset because the website said they had a pool and it was one of the main reasons I had booked this hotel! The front desk employee said that the pool is broken, the owners have not gotten it fixed yet, and the pool hasn’t opened this year at all yet! She apologized but said there was nothing she could do. I tried her that I would be contacting Econo Lodge corporate office about this. We and our kids wanted to go swimming during our trip and now we were SOL.
Got to the room (252). Only 2 sets of towels in the bathroom. A broken off light bulb in one of the lamps. Trash and dust on the floor behind the nightstand. The room smelled of cats and cigarette smoke (even though the room and entire hotel is supposed to be nonsmoking). Batteries in TV remote control did not work. Went to front desk to notify the front desk employee of the issues. The front desk employee said she would have to go to the laundry room to get towels. I believe she was the only employee present on the property. She returned with two additional sets of towels, gave us 2 batteries for the remote control, and gave us a new light bulb. Guess this a do-​it-​yourself kinda place! We returned to the room and replaced the batteries and the broken light bulb (without cutting ourselves on it). I then noticed that the security lock on our hotel door was broken off. I also noticed an old sign posted on the wall with the name/​rates for the «Signature Inn.» I thought we were staying at Econo Lodge???
In the morning of 7÷11÷15 the breakfast was ok. I used the women’s restroom near the lobby during breakfast and the kid to the toilet tank was missing. Looked really gross inside. There was a large rolled up carpet in the breakfast seating area but it did not look like any renovations were taking place.
After returning to the room after breakfast, a housekeeper knocked on the door and asked if we needed service. I told her that we just wanted fresh towels and provided her with our dirty towels. She said she would have to get clean towels from the laundry room and would deliver them back to our room. We left the room to visit with local family. While in the car, I tried to call Econo Lodge customer service to inform them of the issues. I was on hold for over 15 minutes. While on hold, the message encouraged me to contact customer service via their website. So I hung up the call, and sent customer service an email message. We returned to the room about 6 hours later. Our towels had not been replaced so we had to ask at the front desk for more. The front desk employee said she would deliver them in a few minutes, and they were delivered to our room within a few minutes.
At various times throughout our stay, there was no staff present at the front desk. There was a sign next to a phone on the counter telling guests to call «181» for assistance. When I arrived at the front desk around noon on 7÷12÷15 to check out, there was no staff at the front desk. I used the phone to call «181» and after two rings a guy arrived from the back office area. He did not inquire about our stay, thank us, or wish us a safe trip. He just asked if I wanted a copy of the final bill. I stated that I did. He provided it to me, and we left without any further communication with the front desk employee.
The stay was VERY disappointing and this was one of my worst experiences at a hotel. By the way, I still (as of 7÷12÷15 at 2:51 pm) have yet to hear anything back from Econo Lodge customer service!!!

You get what you pay for. This property is not my usual choice hotel selection but there are several events in town and we were only staying overnight so my expectations were not high.
There was an ice and snow storm the week before and unlike all of the other businesses nearby, they thought it was acceptable to leave a sheet of ice across half of the parking lot. It was treacherous. The reception area and all of the hallways reeked of smoke but the front desk person was pleasant enough although she was obviously sleepy at 1am when we arrived. It appears they are renovating. The cards to our room worked and the temperature was easy enough to alter although it took a long time to heat up. The sheets were not exactly white but they were clean and the water was deliciously hot and the towels were white white and smelled good. The breakfast was mostly gone so the adults had breakfast at ihop although my daughter enjoyed making her own waffle. It was acceptable for our needs overall.

Overall: I’ll provably choose another place, but between this hotel and the street, this can do. One extra star only because of the friendly staff during our midnight check in, and a decent breakfast.
Compared to the breakfast experience by a few reviewers below me, my family of 6 thought it wasn’t that bad. In case anyone is curious, breakfast consisted of sausage links, egg «patties», waffle machine (TgiWM!), breads (white loaves, bagels, mini muffins), one cornflakes dispenser, a tray of bananas, coffee and juice. They only had grape jam tho. No other jam flavors. Butter, cream cheese and syrup were available for the waffle. It got a little hectic by 830am since it was half hour before the breakfast closing hour of 9am. Everyone is lazy I guess.
Our reservation: we got two rooms with 2 queen sized beds each, via walk in. AAA membership made each room not even 50 each room, so it was a pretty good deal. Though we would’ve liked hardwood floor rooms (on the 1^st floor), they were pretty full and we got carpeted 2^nd floor rooms. I don’t blame then for that.
The rooms: both rooms smelled really musty and moldy when we first walked in. Blasting the AC a lot helped. The carpets were pretty gross to walk on. Thankfully I brought sandals, which my bros actually borrowed for the shower. Speaking of which, the room had NO soap or shampoo… I didn’t realize it until I already hopped in, so my bros had to run down to get a couple for me. We also had to ask for two more towels since the room just came with two sets. I think that might be standard tho. The TP rolls had a soft one and a not-​so-​soft one. You could probably guess which one was used most during our stay. My parents’ room though seemed to only have the not-​so-​soft one :(
Bedding n stuff: decent, standard, no major problem here. We asked for two extra bedsets (there were four of us sharing two queen size, and we are old enough that I preferred not to share the same sheets as my bro). Room service only brought one set, though I didn’t expect them to actually bring the full blanket + mattress cover + bed sheet. In retrospect, I probably should’ve just said I need two bed sheets, not two bedsets.
Other random comments: The lobby still has the roll of carpets that two reviewers mention lol. I personally didn’t find it bothersome until I came on Unilocal and realized they were probably there for nearly a year by now.

First of all, this is no longer a Clarion and has been taken over by Choice Hotels as an Econo Lodge. Check in was a nightmare as there seemed to be only one person working during a pretty busy weekend (Purdue graduation) and she didn’t seem to know what was going on either. We were informed they were in the middle of remodeling and that only certain rooms were available… however the pile of carpeting from a previous review of over 5 months ago is still taking up space in the lobby.
We received what they referred to as an «updated» room. Both garbage cans had not been emptied. Pieces of wall paper were ripped and marks were on the wall. The bathroom floor did not look like it had been cleaned very well at all. Our refrigerator was loud and obnoxious and kept us up most of the night between that and the air conditioning unit kicking on and off. Though the motion detector light seems smart, it is actually more obnoxious for those who are not getting up when you may be. Not to mention the «delightful» view of scaffolding from our window.
Breakfast was a joke. One lady was in charge of the desk and breakfast. The orange juice machine was broken so they had OJ in the fridge, waffles with no syrup, and a very dismal selection of food.
All this «joy» for $ 200 a night. Never again… I’ll be sticking with Marriott or Hilton hotels from now on.

I liked the hotel, but was a little disappointed in my room. The tub faucet dripped, the entrance light and light over the sink were on motion sensors (not a bad idea, just annoying), and even though it’s a non-​smoking hotel the room smells like old cigarette smoke. Also, the mini fridge was a little noisy.
Overall, I would recommend this place.

PLEASE NOTE, THE CURRENT OWNER TOOK OVER 100% OWNERSHIP IN THE LAST 2 MONTHS, SO PLEASE DISREGARD ALL OLDER REVIEWS. I called to book the hotel at the last minute about 10 p.m. on a Saturday night. The person on the phone was very helpful. I arrived at 2 a.m. to be greeted by the person on the phone who happened to also be the new owner. Although he is young, he gives great service and is obvously looking to fix up what he hasn’t already and make this a quality hotel. He made sure my daughter and I had a room in a quiet part of the hotel. He volunteered and suggested a late check out. He also made sure and was happy to make accommodations for our restricted diet for breakfast. The room was clean. The linens appeared new. The two beds gave us both an AWESOME night of sleep. PLEASE, what more could ANYBODY ask for. I would HAPPILY bring back the rest of my family. I could not ask more from a $ 100 room, owe I forgot, it was about half of that! What a great hotel that happened to be priced very right! THANK YOU!
