I really enjoy visiting D&R when I have a little time. I like to just wander and check out all of the different offerings. They have amazing meats, though perhaps a little pricey.(I have found there is a certain amount of «you get what you pay for» in this life) The butchers are encyclopedic on any question you may have. They can cut or grind your selection just the way you want it. They carry many meat items you won’t find any where else. The sight afforded meat displayed in the meat counter window is really something. Their two walls of spices, sauces, seasonings and such is quite nice. They have assorted craft cheeses and a decent selection of fruits and vegetables. D&R is a nice market to visit any time, and especially when you need a little inspiration for your cooking. I guarantee you’ll find with some wonderful stuff!

The best BBQ I’ve had in awhile! The sides are great too especially the loaded potato salad. The staff is super friendly too.

The best brisket I’ve had! Well seasoned and beyond tender. We’re from OOT, visiting scientist and designer, and were seeking a gourmet market on the level of, well … NY. We came closer than expected. The owners are friendly and generous with their samples. Just try it!

Love this place. While the meat is good, I think I enjoy it more for elements like its limited but very expertly stocked gourmet pantry section(Rancho Gordo beans!); fresh, local eggs; seasonal produce varieties that you won’t find anywhere else around here(Ramps! Sea beans!); high-quality seafood items; and small but well-curated craft beer and wine selection.

This is the best place in town to get fresh wild-caught salmon. Highly recommended. Also, the selection of food and produce in the store indicates that the owners know what to offer to please their customers. There might not be a wide selection of each item on the shelf, but what they do have is well chosen and of high quality. Worth the expense. And the smoked scents in there are heavenly.

Friendly, quality products, well worth making an extra stop. They provide the kind of service only available at the smaller, locally owned places. Need to know how to prepare a specific cut of meat or a suggestion for a dinner party? They got you covered.

The market has fresh quality meat, and it is not too overpriced. The restaurant is fantastic if you want a comfort meal on-the-go!

D & R is one of the reasons I miss living in Lafayette. Their meat is as good as it’s going to get, and the butcher’s knowledge is second to none. If you want pairings for anything, they will know. The steaks I purchase from D & R are incredible; I will not buy meat anywhere else in town. The produce is fresh and they will have things that I can’t even find at a Whole Foods. I fell in love with the heirloom tomatoes they bring in.

Looking for a certain meat? This is the best place to go in town! I had a friend a while back that moved to the states from Poland. She was in Lafayette was to make a traditional Polish dish for her boyfriend and friends. We went everywhere in search for this specific kind of polish sausage. No one had it. Some of the butchers had never even heard of it. I remembered D & R so we stopped there to ask… and sure enough, they had it! :) They have also had what I was looking for in meats, fish, and etc. Lucky to have them here in town!

If you like ***meat***, and you don’t mind paying more for the quality, this is the place. They also have a decent, well-chosen selection of ***cheese***. They have great ***service*** here. I wish they have a better seleection of beers and wines though.

When I was a kid in Michigan, it was Marv’s meat market… Now that I’m an adult, it’s D&R Market. There’s a lot of facets to D&R, so I’m going to go old-school and list ‘em out. 1. Their fresh meat case: The priority is on locally sourced meats, cut extremely well and sold for a fair price. If you don’t see the cut you want, you can ask Patrick or one of the other butchers for it and if they can’t cut it on the spot, they’ll tell you when they can cut it. If you don’t see cubed something — they’ll cube it for you on the spot. Not only do they cut their own meats, but they make their own brat/sausage blends. I love seeing what flavors they’ll experiment with next, and they’re *always* tasty. 2. Their seafood case. I had to stop to let out a small sigh, because they source out some wonderful fish and shellfish. The priority is on fresh, good quality and a wide price range. Exotic salmon that you’ve only read about in Saveur magazine, fresh tuna, always their in-house smoked salmon, and sometimes other smoked seafood as well(butterfish. *drool*). Sometimes they source out interesting oysters and other shellfish. They were kind enough to let me borrow their oyster knife to use after I’d purchased some. How cool is that? 3. Their cheese case. I could write a lot about cheese, even though I don’t eat it often. They always have a wonderful selection of bleu cheese of different kinds(Roquefort, stilton, other blends etc). If you want a ‘eatin’ cheese, they have a lot of cheddars and swisses. I can’t tell you some of the other varieties, because generally at their case my brain goes«This looks good *pick up put in basket and find that it is indeed quite good*» Patrick has scored some somewhat rare cheeses as well, so if you want to try something you can’t find elsewhere in this area of Indiana, this is the cheese shop for you. 4. Their other meat case. Opposite their meat counter is the ‘other’ meat case. Local chicken, goat, lamb, their in-house beef jerky, bulk brat/sausage meat and other surprises live here. =) 5. Fruits and Vegetables. Dragonfruit. Starfruit. Lemon Cucumbers. They find interesting fruits and vegetables that you may not have heard of or tried before — but they also offer what you’re looking for to go with your steak/chicken/etc. Have you ever wondered the difference between peaches from different states? Tad knows, just ask him, he’ll tell you. He has as much love for fruits and vegetables as Patrick does for meat. I’ve never been steered wrong by him. 6. Frozen foods. Bulk fruits for your pie making pleasure live in the upright fridge. Frozen salmon, squids, other seafood, rabbit, pork/bacon burgers, a lot of interesting things live in their freezer case. Right across from ‘the other meat case’. The selection always changes, and it’s worth looking through each time. 6. Pantry basics. I shouldn’t call this ‘basics’, because though there is some basic mustard, you’re pretty likely to find the trending condiments of the time here. No need to search internet sites and pay shipping — if you want that mustard featured in Saveur, they’ll already have it on the shelf. Spice blends, sweet stuff for baking or spreading on toast, sauces, rubs, canned treats for your salad/entertaining platters. They’ve got it. 7. Beer and wine. They have a very well chosen selection of beers and wines — if you want something that will go with your dinner selection, just ask. =) There’s always someone there who can help you make a selection. 8. Deli and dairy. A great selection of Boar’s Head and other deli meats, along with their house-made sides(cole slaw, broccoli salad, etc). DONOTFORGETTOTRYTHEPICKLES. I’m serious about this. Good basic dairy fridge too, with heavy whipping cream, half and half, milk and everything else you’d expect. 9. Organic dairy. They have a good selection of organic dairy by Nature’s Farm and Traderspoint Creamery in their front case. As a bonus, if you want organic meat, they usually have it in their freezer case. This review is getting really long. But I really like it here =) You will too. You can ask them about their products, and they know about them. Ask them to get something you don’t see, and they can probably get it for you. D&R Market is ‘our’ market. It should be yours too.

This is a real meat market, with real meat cutters on duty at all times. If you’re over 30, er, perhaps 40, you probably remember that ALL stores used to be like this. Meat didn’t arrive in cello-wrapped packages. It arrived basically hacked-up-animal-shaped and real people with real skills cut it into the shapes you wanted, such as steaks and roasts. Well, that’s what happens at D&R. Patrick’s the Grandmaster there, has been cutting meat for«Bob”-knows-how-long. Jared is newer, but damn good as well. There’s a couple others I don’t actually know the name of, but they cut meat awesomely too. Cap’n Dave knows his seafood, and there’s always something available from decently low priced to «ZOMG expensive but worth it.» Tad is the Produce God, and the produce available is always good and fresh and reasonably priced — when possible; they DO get in some exotic-ish produce sometimes and it costs more, of course. They also have a respectable and growing selection of craft beers. I work 2 doors down, so it’s easy for me to get here often. We don’t get as much meat there as we used to, as we bought into ¼ of a grass-fed cow, and a chicken raising co-op — but when we DO need meat, this is where we go. And fish. And produce. Just shop here. You won’t regret it. Ever.

Can you ask for anything more than a neighborhood butcher who knows his craft and treats his customers right? Well, the answer is: you can. In fact, in addition to providing quality produce, local, farm-raised meat, and good service, this place actually has prices that are no higher than those at your ordinary grocery store. Why go anywhere else?

After reading Alex C.‘s review for D & R, I thought it would be good to go check them out. One thing we found is that they have a greenhouse and sell plants. We ended up buying 10 plants, took them home to plant, and when our neighbors saw the beautiful plants, they could not believe we bought such quality plants for such reasonable prices. They ended up going and getting some also. I highly recommend the greenhouse. We love the plants, they have been so healthy, and get a lot of compliments. We have visited the fruit and meat market twice so far. We bought some meat, and I can say it was more tasty and of higher quality than what we have been buying at local grocers. We have always struggled to find consistent quality meat, so we are thinking we may have found the answer finally in D & R. The staff in the meat department was friendly and helpful. The prices are very reasonable. I enjoyed shopping the fruit and veggie section. I thought the produce was better than what we find in the local grocers. There is not a super huge selection, but I was able to find what I needed. It will be interesting to see what the quality will be like throughout the whole year. So far the veggies and fruits have seemed fresher and tastier than what we would normally find. I never had time to get to the farmer’s market this year, but stopping at D & R is convenient for us. There are a lot of goodies in the shop as far as seasonings and sauces go, and I look forward to making some neat discoveries that might add to the excitement of cooking and baking.

This is the best place in Lafayette for fresh fruit, vegetables and meat. It’s cheaper than Target, Walmart or Meijer and its of higher quality than the farmers market. With no Trader Joe’s within an hours drive, this is the best place for high quality foodstuffs at reasonable prices. They also have seafood along with a selection of deli meats(no pancetta though). Stare too long at anything and one of the kind employees will instantly ask you if they can get you anything. Add to that a fairly decent spice/sauce section and a small selection of wines and beers and you’re at our one stop grocery.
