I never wanted to have braces again! And I didn’t want to have them as an adult either. Dr. Cobain is the most detail oriented Orthodontist I’ve ever met.
During the consult he is very thorough with the treatment required, the length, he has videos that help explain the treatments AND he offers clear brackets and Invisalign for adults.
I felt like an annoying patient because I was always worried about my teeth moving in the wrong way ect… But Dr. Cobain heard me out and was able to explain to me exactly what was happening and what I should expect.
I chose to go with the clear brackets because it was a bit more reasonable than Invisalign AND the Dr. said it would be a faster treatment time.
Well this year flew by really fast!

Well, we just have to agree with everyone else here on this page — Dr. Cobain and his staff are the best! Friendly, knowledgeable, helpful and creates a really good atmosphere. The most important part, of course, is the teeths — and all my kids (3 of them) now seem to get nicely looking, straight teeth. They have different age, and have been advised different things because their teeths and situations are different. This shows how professional and individually Dr. Cobain works with everyone. This is not a «one-​size-​fits-​all» consultancy, you get exactly the braces that will work best for you. I highly recommend this great place — they always go out of their way to make you feel comfortable, help you with insurance and accomodate times, so that they fit with your schedule.

Summary: Chose Dr. Cobain over 10 other orthodontists, I had a very hectic travel schedule where I saw him very rarely, I finished my adult braces under the estimated time (1 year, 5 months), my teeth look fantastic.
Dr. Cobain and his staff are the best. I’m pretty sure there’s no one better. He is an amazing consultant and practitioner. He and his staff are some of the most welcoming and helpful people you’ll ever encounter.

My friends in the medical community — doctors, nurses, etc — have always recommended to me the following with regard to choosing a practitioner anywhere in medicine: Find someone old enough that he knows what he’s doing, but young enough that he understands new technologies.
It’s sound advice. Newbies will mess up on you, but older practitioners don’t know about OR are uncomfortable with the latest advances in technology. They get stuck doing what they know how to do even though there are huge advancements made about every 3 years.
Dr. Cobain meets this criteria. He’s up to speed on what’s new, but is also experienced in his craft.
I emailed pretty much everyone east of Oakland. I talked with over 10 orthodontists with some depth. Got multiple in-​person consultations, some that I paid for. Some places were too focused on their own image, trying to seem like upscale spas. Other places were curt in their consultations. Most didn’t know what to recommend to me with regard to Invisalign vs traditional braces. Most were impersonal. One guy was clearly just too old to be practicing still. I gave up at one point because it just seemed like everyone sucked and I was never going to find anyone I trusted.
It took me a _​long_​time to find Dr. Cobain and I’m glad I held out. I literally thought about braces for a year straight before deciding to get them and I never would have done it if I hadn’t met this guy.
— Consulted with me for an entire hour on my initial visit and answered absolutely every question I had.
— Dr. Cobain has seen numerous cases of people from other offices who have previously had braces and came to him during their second time. He’s seen cases where they messed up badly. Cases where braces were on for 4+ years. He ensured me that this wouldn’t happen with him.
— Was unafraid to give me a straightforward recommendation against getting Invisalign (what I thought I wanted to do) with good evidence and explained why. As in, he literally showed me in my mouth why the traditional braces work differently for my case.
— I explained my complicated travel situation to him (I travel for work for long periods of time). I only got to see him every 3 – 6 months rather than the much shorter usual gaps in appointments. He set me up with some extra tricks to make my teeth move quicker/​more since I’d be gone longer.
— This is a very individual experience point (everyone is different), but I only experienced pain during the first 2 months of treatment. Everything was smooth sailing afterward despite the much more powerful wires and other techniques he used since I didn’t see him very often.
— He and his staff have the best bedside manner you’ll ever encounter. Free comedy show =)
— Gave me an estimate of 1.5−2 years for having braces. I got mine off in 1 year and 5 months.

Good experience. For my both kids, he is very easy to talk to. Explains things well. He also entertains questions about different alternates. When I doubted the treatment plan based on some research we did, he politely listened and explained the pros cons and different scenarios. After engaging discussion, he helped come up with a plan that seems reasonable.
So far things are going quite well, and kids are also very comfortable with him. I see his work quality is high too. Will recommend to others.

We are so happy with Dr. Cobain and his staff. I have been meaning to Unilocal and today is the perfect day to write my review because my daughter just got her braces off and her teeth look beautiful!
We came to Dr. Cobain a year ago when my daughter was 7 because she had an underbite and I knew she would probably need early ortho. Within a month we had started treatment, and just as Dr. Cobain originally told us, her treatment took just about a year.
Dr. Cobain and his staff are outstanding – very friendly and helpful. The treatment plan they presented us up front was exactly what we paid – no hidden fees, no insurance billing issues. They were flexible with our payment plan and our appointment times. I also liked that we were able to reach the Dr. or staff during off-​hours – my daughter’s wire popped off one weekend and I was able to communicate with the office via text to find out if this was something urgent and when we could get in to fix it.
I highly recommend this office. They are professional, accomodating, and so friendly. Thank you Dr. Cobain and staff!

My daughter just started attending St Mary’s College, and promptly managed to accidentally throw her retainer in the trash. After 4 years of pretty intense orthodontia down here in SoCal, and having only had her braces off for 2 months, immediate attention was needed as her teeth could be subject to movement fairly quickly. I was desperate to find a good ortho up in Lamorinda to make her a replacement. I called numerous offices, and phone call number 4 was to Dr Cobain. None of the first 3 offices I called were really very sympathetic to my dilemma, and her need for prompt attention was brushed off. But Dr Cobain’s office was FANTASTIC (Samantha and Courtney). They immediately acknowledged the urgency of the matter, bent over backwards to get her an appointment as soon as possible, one that would work with her school schedule, and then even put Dr Cobain on the phone with me to explain the process and the cost (which was lower than the other 3 quotes).

Really! I can have an appointment on Saturday?
What! You are flexible to work out a time that works for me?
Doctor is never late, and the staff members are always friendly, smiling and pleasant? Billing is easy and seamless; appointments are not changed and followed up on? Is this a dream? NO, IT IS REAL!
Finally someone sets a high bar for the industry, thanks to Dr. Cobain and his staff from Nicki to Sammy.
Too bad you cannot give 6 stars on this site, because they truly deserve it.
I have been going to him for more than 3 years and from the day I walked into his clean well-​run office, I have received nothing but the best treatment and service.
Dr. Cobain is extremely knowledgeable, personable, and honest. He always has the best interest of his patients in mind and not his pocket. He provides clear explanations on all the options for a treatment, even if it doesn’t financially benefit him.
Oh yeah, please start staffing up, I am recommending you to everyone I know.

Dr. Cobain and his staff are fantastic. I always look forward to my visits as everyone is so pleasant, accommodating and knowledgeable. My appointments never take long and the service is always excellent. I am in the middle of Invisalign treatment and I couldn’t be happier with Dr. Cobain and his team.

We LOVE Dr. Cobain and his staff! Three of us have gone through that office for orthodontia. First my daughter, then myself, and now my teenage son. We began treatment with Dr. Notaras and worried about the transition to a new doctor, as he retired. We worry no more, as Dr. Cobain is fantastic! He uses cutting edge technology is very personable, as well. His staff bends over backwards to accommodate your schedule, even emergency braces repair, if a wire pops off! Our paperwork is handled efficiently and billing is clean and simple. His office is «fun» and colorful and a relaxing place for the kids.
Our son’s teeth are looking fantastic and the braces come off next week!

We are huge fans of Dr. Cobain and his staff. They are genuine and friendly. Dr. Cobain knows what he is doing, is pateint and caring. His advice has been right on spot and my daughter’s progress has been exactly what he has said to expect.
Particularly impressive is the office’s willingness to help out in an emergency. My daughter had broken brackts twice before going away for trips. Once right before summer camp Dr. Cobain came in on a Saturday to help her out. More recently he arranged to meet us at his office on Christmas Eve to adjust her braces.
His professionalism makes him a great choice for anyone in Lamorinda looking for an orthodontist, but his willingness to go above and beyond make him the BEST choice.

Before choosing Dr. Cobain we did a thourough research of the Orthodontics services available in the area. Several doctors including Dr. Cobain gave us the same advice and recommendations.
We were pleasantly surprised that our treatment at Dr. Cobain’s would cost us 30% less than at the other places while the quality was great (based on the recommendations)! They are truly committed to making high-​quality Orthodontics affordable.
The location is convenient, appointments are easy to set up and there is hardly any wait.
Moreover, Dr. Cobain and his staff (Nicki) are just very nice people to deal with.

I heart Dr. Cobain! He is a very good orthodontist who is thorough, personable and he makes sure you feel comfortable. I actually met him at another practice in Vallejo and found out that he had his own practice in Lafayette. Which works out for me since I live around the area. I came by to get a consult since I need a lot of work done for my teeth. Nicki the assistant is super helpful and extremely genuine you won’t feel like you are dealing with a used car salesman. The icing on the cake is he takes appointment every other Saturday as well how awesome is that? His practice is very tiny but homey at the same time perfect fit for the Lamorinda area. When I was there I felt like everyone knew each other because the other patients were just chatting it up with Dr. Cobain and Nicki. It’s really hard now a days to find that caring and personal touch with doctors. I think now I understand why people would choose ppo over hmo any day. Highly recommend Dr. Cobain if you are looking into getting braces. Cheers!
