History

Established in 1957.

Enterprise Rent-​A-​Car was founded by Jack Taylor in 1957 and is known for an extensive network of locations, everyday low rates and outstanding customer service, including picking up local customers at no extra cost. Taylor named the company after an aircraft carrier on which he had served, the World War II USS Enterprise. We’ve always operated through an extensive network of local, neighborhood offices, each powered by the energy of a small, highly entrepreneurial team. Our first customers were the ones who really shaped the business model that we use today. They told us they wanted to rent cars where they live and work. We have a well-​established track record for making rental service convenient and affordable for those who prefer to «buy for the need and rent for the exception.»

I rent vehicles through this location at least twice a year for a university program I run that participates in competitions. They are very fast, efficient, helpful, on top of it, and nice every single time. Because of this, I recently used Enterprise at the Denver Airport because I believe the company to have consistently high customer service. As expected, it was perfect service, too.
Enterprise is a great company; the Ladue location is a reflection of that. I don’t want to use anybody else.

My car had to be put in the shop for repair, s o I went online a per ordered the car and set up a pick from the mechanic shop. They picked me up and when I arrived they had all my paper work and car ready to go. They were super nice and was ready to answer any questions I had.

So disappointed with you all. Weekend cars do not exist apparently. We’re told you would pick us up at 10:30 am to get our car. We called you at 11:15 and were told that you would be here an hour late and we were also on a waiting list to get a car sometime today.
We were leaving on a trip and delayed leaving due to lies we were told by your home office here in STL. You used to be so much more professional and this was why we always called you first in any city were were in. I guess your personnel comes from other car rentals where honestly is sort of a good idea.
Maybe you should not try to acquire a new stadium and focus more on the basics of your business. Sure seems that way to us. Get some new people in there who know what they are doing and stop making your customers mad!
You are no longer King of your Kingdom Enterprise. I hope Jack sees this note!

I set up the rental online, which was easy and painless, and when we picked up the car, it was exactly what we requested. There was no line on day of pick-​up, and the staff was accommodating and friendly. After four days we returned the car having only a minute wait in line. Everyone was friendly and helpful.

I rent from Enterprise fairly often. This rental was an exception to the level of service I’ve come to expect. While the personnel were very courteous-​as usual-​the process broke down and the vehicle I rented was actually dangerous. The first issue was that the car the staff person picked me up in had a cracked windshield-​and he thought that would be an «acceptable» rental «because the crack is not too big (8−10» long…). When I asked for a new car, I was given a late model Camry-​which was quite stripped down compared to full-​size models I’ve gotten in the past. Within an hour or so, I got on the highway and then headed West which put me in the afternoon sun. The inside of the windshield was so dirty my vision was almost totally obliterated looking into the sun. I had to exit the highway, find a service station, and clean it. When I headed out for my journey that night, I encountered heavy rainstorms. Even though I slowed to 15 mph under the speed limit, keeping up with other traffic, the car would repeatedly hydroplane. The odometer had over 36,000 miles on it-​surely an index the tire should be checked routinely (and probably replaced) in a commercial vehicle. Again, I pulled off the highway and found that the right front tire was very, very worn. I had to go very slowly to be safe for about an hour or so and never really felt comfortable with the car on my trip. When I mentioned these issues upon my return, the staff were fairly «oh well» and gave me a business card giving 15% off my next rental. I will surely inspect my Enterprise vehicles more closely in the future-​and would encourage all other renters to do so for their own safety.

Enterprise is the most accommodating car rental company. Their staff is always friendly and helpful. The Ladue office has always been an excellent location. I have used them for business and personal car rental for many years. They all go out of their way to ensure an easy process. They always have some kind of price break available to ease the «pain».

I turned in a car 1 hour before they closed on a Fri. I was there before they opened on Sat. at 9am. I had left a $ 100 bottle of Australian Gold Tanning lotion in the van that was a gift for my girl friend. Of course at first they barely had a record of me renting a car at all, then told me it was already rented. I ask how, you just opened, they smart ass said «yea were good». I asked don’t they clean out the cars before they send them out and he said sure we do. But he wouldn’t even check to see if someone found it. Then later he said that it might not have been cleaned out if it looked clean already. So I wont ever use these liars again. AND REMEMBER IF YOU LEAVE SOMETHING IN A RENTAL CAR AT ENTERPRISE YOU WILL NEVER GET IT BACK!!! I guess I should be happy it wasn’t a phone or computer or something worth more.

The purpose of the review is two-​fold. First, I needed a rental years ago while in school in St. Louis when my car was in the shop. My Insurance agent arranged the rental through Enterprise and I was pleased. The car was clean and the price was good.
Second, Enterprise now owns National and Alamo car rentals too. I recently rented from Alamo in Kahului, HI and had some problems. Please see my Alamo review for Kahului, HI. As a result, I was forced to deal with Alamo in Dallas. They were most difficult and so I reviewed them also-​please see the review.
Enterprise actually cares about customer satisfaction-​a novel concept in today’s high-​pressure business environment. I promptly received a message from Kyle who is in customer service in St. Louis. He asked for an explanation, which I provided. He relayed my information to the risk management team and we were able to resolve the problem to my satisfaction. I had a complaint and I really had no idea if they would agree with me but the point was that the parent company took note of my complaint and at least listened.
Kyle-​thanks for caring and listening. Next time I’m in St. Louis I’d like to shake your hand and take you out for a Ted Drewes!

Enterprise is my go-​to rental car agency whenever I’m in need of a car, be it in my own city, or while on vacation. When I’m back in St. Louis and in need of wheels to get me around, this is the Enterprise location I entrust my transportation needs to, and they get it right just about every time.
On previous occasions, upon returning a car, I’ve offered my two cents on what could’ve gone better, and the agents are always receptive, offering helpful tips for next time, and even free upgrades sometimes!
On my most recent trip to St. Louis, I had planned to pick up a rental car directly from the airport, but since my flight was unnecessarily delayed for 3 hours, the rental place closed. So, bright and early the next day, I headed over to the Ladue location. While I had spoken to someone at the Airport locale who ensured me my reservation had been changed, when I arrived at the Ladue store, they didn’t have any record of it. Oops!
But not to worry, cause they had a car ready to go for me within about 20 minutes! Nice! The rate was probably about a dollar a day more, but it didn’t really make a difference to me in the long run. The car (Suzuki Forenza, maybe?) wasn’t anything special, but it got good gas mileage, and was able to transport me everywhere I needed to be while in St. Louis, and then some! Thanks Enterprise! I will continue to be a loyal customer.
