History
Established in 1985.
Sylvania Tree Farm surrounds the old village of Mast Hope on the Delaware River. This area is rich in history, legends and natural beauty. The property is privately owned by the McKay family, descendants of the original owners, David and Gertrude Selden, who settled here and developed the village in 1848. Today, the old village of Mast Hope can be described as a «town time forgot».
It was the Erie Railroad that was the impetus that led David Selden to purchase the property in and around Mast Hope. At that time, the Seldens’ built a forty-room manor house adjacent to the Mast Hope Train Station. The Selden manor operated as a hotel into the late 19th century.
Today the McKay family carries on the tradition of hospitality; accommodating and providing a sylvan retreat for its guests.
