I went to this area on a date. The woman I was on a date with recommend this place and and told me that they had great roast beef. Highlights of the place in and had a very nice atmosphere. It is a nice corner bar the roast beef was as good as she told me this is why I am giving it a 5 star rating. Again this is a corner bar the people who are complaining about service. Are expecting service like they would from a big chain and this is not what you’re going to get. It is a small business run by a normal person like you and me. I personally like these type of place is better than the processed food incorporations. If you’re looking for someone to kiss your ass you probably ought to go somewheres else. But if you’re looking for a good meal and you like roast beef I would highly recommend.

I decided to give this place a try since I love a good Beef on Weck sandwich. First of all, I really liked the décor and ambiance. Very original and classy but fun. Great 60s music was playing. There were only a few other occupied tables. It wasn’t very busy, but the service was a bit slow. The waitress was friendly, and I think she might have also been the bartender which may have explained some of the slowness. Both me and my wife ordered the Beef on Weck and a side of onion rings. It seemed like a simple order but it took quite awhile to come out, and when it did, the onion rings were cold. I don’t mean luke-warm, but cold as if they were in a refrigerator. Their solution was to take back the cold onion rings, then throw them back in the fryer. Of course, they didn’t taste very good and were extremely greasy after this treatment. I think they should have offered to take the onion rings off the bill. I did not ask for them to do this, as it is not my practice, but in this case they brought out an unacceptable product and should have just taken the cold onion rings back and taken them off the bill. And later both me and my wife felt slightly queasy, I am almost certain due to the way they refried the onion rings. The Beef on Weck exceeded my expectations. It was medium rare how I like it and there was a lot of beef. I noted that they had 4 sizes to choose from. However it was a little stringy and some tough parts. But one of the better Beef on Wecks I’ve tried. Perhaps a little pricey. I wouldn’t recommend against going here, especially for the bar area which is quite nice, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to go back.

Not bad as long as you know what to expect: extremely greasy salty pub food. They were short-staffed the night we went so even though there were only three occupied tables and a nearly empty bar, service was a little slow. The bartender was essentially running the place. The French onion soup was pretty good, on the sweeter side and the roast beef was pretty good too, a little on the greasy side. 6 bucks for a tiny salad that was basically a handful of lettuce and a couple other things. I mean come on, it’s a side salad — should be 3 or 4 bucks at the most. I probably would have given one more star if the salad was much bigger or cheaper. Anyhow — I guess the long and short of it is that it’s not a terrible place but if I had company visiting from out of town, I wouldn’t send them here.

I’ve been a regular here at beef n ale for almost a year now. For the most part the meals have been good but tonight I had to write a review. The bartender/waitress crystal is the sweetest be sure to request her when you come in. I’m not sure why they changed up their recipe but it was overdue. The french onion soup was to die for, seriously as good as what I can make at home. Roast beef is extremely tender, the best I’ve found in buffalo thus far and cajun hot wings… yummy. If you’ve never been here i highly suggest trying it out be sure you get the beef.

My mom, aunt and uncle went there last night. I’m glad I didn’t go because I would not have paid for the meal. My mom ordered beef and gravy and said it made her sick after she ate some of it. My uncle ordered the beef and barley and said the beef had just been«dropped» in to the soup. Everything was to salty and they waited for a while to get their food. We’ll pretty much never go back and it’s a shame. We need small businesses here in Lackawanna.

Everyone recommended this place, said it was amazing. Well, I went here and even though I saw some Buffalo Bills, Marv Levy, and such, the food left a lot to be desired. Tasteless steak, undercooked for my taste(even though I asked for medium-well), though the waiter happily returned it for a new slab. I will say that the staff is very friendly, rather quick, and prices are alright. I just wasn’t that impressed with the food.

This was our third time eating at Ernie Webers. The first two times were great, so we decided to bring our parents this time. What a mistake. We arrived and sat in the bar area, there were a few other customers there and it’s Halloween so some costumes too. There was one server/bartender taking care of the entire restaurant — ridiculous. We got our first round of drinks within a few minutes, but it took 20 more for the waitress to come back and take our food order. Collectively, we ordered French onion soup, two fish fries, a French dip/side of fries, and beef on weck. As we waited, and waited, and waited for our dinner, the one waitress/bartender scurried around the restaurant attempting to take care of all the customers. The owner was also present at the bar, but on the other side, drinking. The waitress tried to assure us that our soup was coming out soon, but they had to wait for the oven as a large table in the back ordered French dips and they needed to wait to put our soup in. OK, we went up to the bar and asked the owner if she could get us another round of drinks, so we were OK with the wait. About 45 minutes after we ordered, we received our soup. It was warm, at best. The cheese was solidified… not a good sign for the rest of our meal. Not to mention one of the spoons we received was a sundae spoon… it was handed to us with a little chuckle ‘enjoy your sundae’. Things went south from here. At least 30 more minutes passed until the remainder of our meal arrived, piece mail delivered. The tuna Mac salad was the best part of the fish fry. The fish itself was not flaky and the batter was greasy. The French dip was good, but the side of fries was forgotten and didn’t arrive until half the sandwich was gone. The beef was not the quality we had on our previous visit, but it still tasted good. The beef on weck was inedible. The beef on the sandwich was grey and such poor quality, you couldn’t even cut it in half. The beef on the two sandwiches didn’t look like it even came from the same restaurant. At the end of our meal, we told the waitress how terrible our experience was, evident by all of the food remaining on our plates. She called the owner over to show her the four inch slab of fat from the beef on weck and she said ‘what is that?’ That, ma’am, is the beef you served us. They took our plates into the kitchen and said as they were walking away ‘I need to go look at that’. At this point we have been at the restaurant for two hours. Two hours. To eat dinner at a bar. We thought the owner would at the very least remove the beef on weck from our bill, no such luck. Nothing was comped. The owner was clearly more concerned about the patrons who were there for the Halloween activities and pouring drinks for herself. As we struggled over the lack of apology or any kind of sincere care from the owner, we paid, left and will never be back.

As is the case with many amazing places on South Park Ave — I passed this place about 15 times on the way to and from a friend’s house in the Blasdell area. Each time I passed it, I would express aloud(and usually to myself): «Hm! Beef… and Ale… well heck, that’s two of my favorite things on this planet! I gotta get in there and figure out what’s going ON in there!» I expressed this numerous times to my friend — who lives within a mile from Beef N Ale, and it actually became a joke that we had to get IN there and figure that place out — ! Finally, one night(a Wednesday) after some good drinking at his place, we realized we were both hungry as sh**, and concluded that the time had come — to experience the Beef N Ale. We figured out a way to get there, and made our way in. We were taken aback by the amazing woodwork in this place — very well taken care of — and all the tables were at the perfect height to get your«lean» on. We sat at the bar where we were greeted by a friendly bartender that took very good care of us, and humored our beer-fueled, slightly immature behavior and conversation. We expressed our need and desire for Beef N Ale. Over the next hour and change, we were proven that we had located another«hidden gem» in Buffalo — specializing in what is written in huge letters outside: «Beef N Ale». We were certain that our good time may have been influenced by our pregame drinks– so we picked another Wednesday night, to test it out again with clearer heads. Same friendly server, same awesome sandwich — and cold refreshing Ale(of course.) We have been back a handful of times — each on a Wednesday evening(so as to not jinx it). and Beef N Ale continues to deliver. Slowly turning into a ritual!

Friends of mine have been coming here to have bi-weekly game nights for several months now. I have been here on one other occasion and was underwhelmed by the service but since I was only drinking I didn’t really care. Tonight I returned and ordered a hamburger(fatty, no flavor — my dinner companion accidently ate the paper wrapper and didn’t notice). Halfway through my meal, the OWNER approached the table with my check($ 14). After I took the slip, she continued to stand there. I asked her if she needed payment *now* or after my meal(which is, after all, customary in a restaurant). The owner informed me that she was going to «stand right here» while I got cash out for her unless I wanted to start a credit card tab at the bar. Huh? Next time I come for game night, I will be sure to eat somewhere else before going.

Stopped back for a follow up visit and got a roast beef sandwich which was not as good as the one on my previous visit. This time I received dry, overcooked beef. The great 60’s background music was replaced by Kareoke music. Not a great experience this time.

Been a little while since I have been here… Maybe a couple of months… But I just wanted to say this is a nice place… The bar itself is very nice, clean, and comfortable… The interior is all done with wood — very nice touch ! They also have a smaller but nice area if you don’t want to sit in the bar section, and eat… friendly staff… HAVE A NICEDAY ! :-)

After a visit to the Botanical gardens the girl and I were hungry for a bite and passed this old-time beef house and jumped in for some lunch. Te place was empty on Saturday around 3:00 — they just opened. We had the server/bartender/hostess/cook take us to the room beyond the bar area. WOOD — wood walls, wood ceiling, wood tables and chairs, nice bar tables and dining rooms tables custom made. So said the above mentioned waitress… decorated this place 10 years ago!!! They closed for two years and recently reopened in February(although listed as closed everywhere!!)… owners can’t seem to get it changed.(I have notified Unilocal twice myself since our visit) We asked who Ernie Weber is(the mustard king ?), my dad she replied, and also a «famous country bluegrass guy — who wanted to build a bar for people to get a beef and beer. When they get a music license, Ernie and the crew will presumably perform while you down a few pints and Sammie’s. The menu(delivered in an album cover) was a nice example of bar food/gin mill grub with nice supply of bistro selections. We shared a Mr. Big combo($ 16.50) … 1 pound of beef on weck with 10 wings. This was outrageous, excellent and huge! Crispy large wings, juicy beef — «Wish I lived near here» good! A side of o-rings, golden brown and huge as well $ 2.29 includes dipping sauce… Napkins — FREE! Free refill sodas for us today, but cheap beers at Magic hat pint $ 4.00 $ 14.50 Pitcher. $ 3 domestics bottles… some bar specials. Beef and burgers come in 6,8,10,and 16 oz portions!, awesome fish fry at $ 10… reasonably priced food. Lost in the clutter of the newest, bestest, trendiest and most exclusivest sits this little gem of simpler and more honest times; BUFFALO culture in days of factories and hard work. As the children, grandchildren and great greandchildren of the factory era search to find the best composed martini on the strip. Forget not where you have come from. I Love the vibe, could have stuck around for hours… Check it out because they do it right

Hit it on the right day, it’s excellent. The service is a little(flaky) uneven, but if you like a Beef on Weck, I think this is what started the Buffalo tradition.(before chicken wings) The guards at the gate are a little intimidating, but have the patience for your reward. I consider it a little pricey but on occasion, it’s worth it. A draft and some fries it’s a memorable meal. I wouldn’t recommend taking children. A dark, old, beautiful, two room, shotgun bar. Open from 3pm to 11pm I think. This can be a little uneven too. Street parking.
