I am giving them 5 stars because this is such a welcome addition to «central» Lacey. As the earlier reviewers have stated, the produce prices are very good — generally better than any of the grocery stores in town… and also much better than the Oly Farmer’s Market. These are indeed produce stand prices. They have a very good selection too, rivaling the grocery stores and Oly market — they even some off-the-wall things like whole sugar canes. NOTE: this is a seasonal vendor, they are not open in winter, although the seafood vendor is there year-round in the same place. *Edit* I am moving my review of their seafood section, because it is actually a separate business called Ocean Fresh or Ocean Catch or something like that.

This is a nice fruit and veggie stand on the side of the road in what was an old firehouse, I’m guessing. Prices are good, and the product is top notch, so if you’re needing some fresh vegetables and have a few minutes to spare, drop on in. More about those peppers Martha mentioned in her review — I was going to get an Anaheim pepper and somehow cook it for dinner, but they had this whole bag of jalapenos for $ 1. And the bag was quite large. I don’t know what the going rate is for peppers these days, but it seemed like a good deal, so I bought them. While researching on the interwebs for a recipe, I chopped one up and put a bit in my mouth. Heyoh! Yow. That’saspicypepper. Here’s what I came up with — grill the peppers directly on the grill surface(gas or coal) at reasonably high heat. I used 450 or so. About a minute to two minutes on each side. The skin will dry out and turn brownish/blackish. This is good. Remove the peppers and put them in a plastic baggie, and let sit for 5 minutes. Remove the peppers one at a time and peel — the skin should come right off. Don’t touch your eyes after handling the peppers. Now you can cut the peppers open and remove the seeds and the inside bits, and — voila — you have a chipotle pepper. Smoked jalapenos. Wow, these are good when you make ‘em yourself.
