E-Di Gu

My husband’s family recommended Dr. Gu to me after I asked them for a good acupuncturist. i have insertional achilles tendonitis with bone spurs and the pain in my heels was so bad, I couldn’t walk down the stairs or long distances. After one month of acupuncture, the pain in my heels has been reduced so much, I am able to walk without pain! I have been able to resume my exercise routine and walk pain-​free.
i also had occasional nerve pain in my pinky due to muscle tightness and spasms in my left neck and shoulder. Not only does he do acupuncture on this area, he will also do cupping there as well. No more nerve pain!
Dr. Gu is very good at what he does. Insertion of the needles is mostly painless, except when the area is severely swollen, and at those points, he always warns me that I may feel some discomfort. After a few minutes, the pain goes away and by the end of my treatment, I have no pain at all. If you are willing to try herbal medicine, he can also prescribe that to you.
Although I am Asian, I speak only English, but I have had no problems communicating with Dr. Gu. His prices are very fair. I have been to some very good acupuncturist who are located much closer to me, but I am willing to drive from South Orange County to La Puente to see Dr. Gu because I feel completely confident with his skill, and the fact that I am definitely seeing a lot of improvement.

Where western medicine falls short, eastern medicine shall find a way.
My mother first went to Dr. Gu for a frozen shoulder, apparently, a common condition for women over 50. She could barely lift her arm a foot from her side. After months of acupuncture (and physical therapy with another doctor), my mother regained near complete use of her arm.
Fast forward, my wedding date. Sizzler, a Caesar’s salad, and the worst case of full body hives. I called my GP. He told me to get some Benadryl and some Calamine lotion. Nothing. I still wanted to rub up against anything and everything to get rid of the itching.
I see Dr. Gu, this very soft spoken man with a sweet smile on his face. He listens to my symptoms and whips up this weird, brown medicine. The taste, oh, the taste… I keep pacing back and forth, in front of this concoction. Alas, courage… and 2 days later, the rash is gone.
Fast forward, another decade. My mom feels these sharp pains in her abdomen. She calls our GP, who identifies the symptoms as shingles. He recommends Benadryl. No relief. She still feels the stabbing pains that come and go without warning. A call to Dr. Gu, another batch of some ill tasting herbal medicine, and within a week, the symptoms are gone.
