History
Established in 1997.
Billie and John Pappas are pleased to have restored the restaurant back to it’s décor of the 1940’s. Many of the items are original to the building including counters and stools, the buffets, tin ceiling, porcelain floors, wood paneling, the lincrusta on the east wall, and the front entry buffet. The building was built in 1915 and has been a restaurant for over 85 years. Touch of Country — Nolan’s — Marilyn’s — Ethel’s — American Restaurant — Lincoln Way Buffet. Billie and John have restored it as it was when the Pappas and Philon families owned and operated it (American Restaurant) from the 1920’s to the early 1960’s. The building has been in the Pappas family for 9 decades. The banquet/meeting rooms are located in the adjoining seating area constructed in 1890. It is the home of the photo collection featured in the book LA PORTE, INDIANA by Jason Bitner, and the documentary «La Porte, Indiana».
