Cajun Pride Tours

This was an extremely interesting experience. Our tour guide gave us a ton of information on alligators, local birds, plants, and other swamp creatures.
There were great photo opportunities and we were all able to hold a baby gator!
The boat is covered, so even though it was in the 90s the boat felt comfortable.

I have a new found love for alligators because of Captain Allen. It’s a great informative tour for the whole family.

Tip 1: CHECK GROUPON! I’m all about saving.
Tip 2: GO ON A WARM DAY! It was very humid, lightly raining and thundering the day we went. So unfortunately, we didn’t see too much gator action. Like all these cool vids of gators jumping out if the swamp, was not happening. Haha. I did see a bunch lay on logs though.
Tip 3: Try to book the tour boat with the least amount of tourists! Our boat had 10 people I’d say? Our group passed the baby gator around multiple times and take as much pics as we want.
Tip 4: Take the shuttle service! I heard you hear a lot of history on the way. My boyfriend and I were going to do the shuttle service but since some of our friends wanted to come along as well, we drove over. My BF and I did tell the tour that we will be taking the shuttle and failed to mention to them that we were driving instead. The shuttle bus called us around pick up time to see if we were ok and if we wanted them to wait. So nice right? Most tours would’ve just left!
I forgot my tour guide’s name but I learned a lot of history of the swamp through out the tour. We stopped at this scary cemetery, learned about the curse of La Place and all about Julia Brown. Julia Brown is a voodoo priestess and was known to predict every bad event that was about to happen in the neighborhood. The rest… you can hear about on the tour. Haha.
Random fact of the day: Raccoons love marshmallows :)

I loved the swap tour! The tour went on for 1.5 hours. We saw over 50 alligators and ran into a raccoon mommy with 5 babies. We fed them marshmallows, they loved it!! lol Our tour guy was very nice and knowledgeable. We got to hold a baby alligator at the end of the tour. Highly recommend!

This was a beautiful and educational swamp tour! Captain Allen did a wonderful job of explaining everything about the ecology of the swamp and some Louisiana history. There were alligators everywhere and we got to see them jump out of the water a few times when Captain Allen fed them marshmallows. It rained quite a bit during our tour, but the rain definitely didn’t take anything away from the experience. Don’t let rainy weather prevent you from going on this tour!

This was a perfect swamp tour! It was gorgeous, I saw a dozen alligators, turtles, raccoons, great egret, alligator gar, and learned a ton about the history of Louisiana, swamp plants and animals, and the Cajun culture! And of course, got a picture with a baby alligator! I messed up our tour and they thought I had booked a private tour; when I told them I was only trying to book a public tour, they were completely nice and understanding about the mixup. The pickup went smoothly, the minibus is very comfortable. The boats were clean, and comfortable, they even had bathrooms!
I will absolutely recommend this tour to friends and family!

I booked the tour so we can have a different view of New Orleans, so we didn’t have any expectations. But captain Allen was nothing short of amazing! I mean the man raised alligators in his own dining room!
He was entertaining and very informative. We learned quite a bit on the tour and highly recommended to anyone who is visiting New Orleans!
Also once you’re done with the tour and is ready for lunch, definitely check out crab trap for fresh seafood and very affordable, only 2 miles away :)

This tour was so much fun! We arrived pretty early and wandered around the grounds. They had baby alligators to check out as well as tanks of adorable little turtles. We bought a few cool trinkets and snacks in the gift shop including alligator earrings and alligator/​beef jerky.
We checked in and were given a specific color for loading onto the boat which made loading a lot less chaotic… I believe they were running 3 that day. The boat seating is great with a row around the outside and a row straight down the middle facing out so wherever you were seated you could easily see and snap photos.
Our guide was hilarious and kept us entertained the whole time, I was also fascinated by his accent.
Even though we came in November we saw plenty of alligators and even if there weren’t that many, the swamp itself was so cool it wouldn’t have mattered all that much anyways. We got to hold an adorable baby alligator (totally looked like he wanted to make a meal of us but he was still super cute).
We also got to see a graveyard from 1915 from a hurricane similar to Katrina. Even though it’s been destroyed a couple of times, the Cajun Pride folks rebuild it every time out of respect for their swamp and it’s history. They also have a really cool swamp house still standing.
This one of my favorite tours of our whole vacation! I would do it again.

We did the Swamp Tour + Oak Valley Plantation Tour combo for $ 85!
I would recommend to bring snacks and water. They have light snacks to sell (alligator sausage, hotdogs, chips, soda) and they say you’re not allowed to bring food, but if you are mindful about your trash (don’t dump things in the swamp!!!), they probably won’t mind.
+ A bus picked us up at a hotel destination and drove us to the swamp and plantation, super easy process
+ They were prompt on answering the phone to inform us that they were running a little late

The hubs and I ran into a family while out on Frenchman street who raved of Cajun Pride tours. I booked our tour for the very next day.
Chose the Oak Plantation and Swamp tour combo and all we had to do was be ready for pick up that morning (pick up and drop off, in the front of your hotel). Staff was great the entire trip. Be prepared for an ALL day excursion if you do book the combo tour. I didn’t bring snacks (rookie mistake) but it was a welcome relief to discover both places sell snacks and offered clean bathrooms (the plantation has a café, bar and gift shop!).
Highly recommend CPT for any first time swamp goers. Don’t forget to bring your camera, plenty of ‘gators out there ready for selfies ;)

For first-​timers like myself, I highly recommend a swamp tour. It’s fun, interactive and this particular company — there was a groupon! What could be better?
We organized a bus to pick us up. The company (through Cajun Pride) picks up at most hotels in the French Quarter for $ 25 per person. It was about a 30 min ride from the FQ which wasn’t too bad. The actual site is small. There’s a little shack with souvenirs and such inside. Outside, there’s some seating and you can pose with this giant plastic alligator… but other than that, not much.
The real fun is obviously on the tour. We had a nice sized group with couples, families and friends — so all ages welcome. Our tour guide was HILARIOUS. He spit out a lot of fun facts and personal stories which made for a fun ride. We definitely saw a lot of alligators, turtles and birds (surprisingly a lot of cardinals) which was great. I learned a lot and laughed a lot. At some point in the tour he takes out a baby alligator which we held. That was really neat.
Overall, a great experience for the price and you can say that you’ve officially been on the bayou (and held a gator if you so dare). Check it out!

A fun and informative experience! You won’t see a lot during the cold months, but we got to hold a baby alligator and see a few birds.
The tour guide was fantastic and this is a must when visiting New Orleans!

Saw lots of small alligators, raccoons, and other wildlife. Our guide, Captain Allen, was very knowledgeable about cajun life and gators– he raises them himself. He also has strongly negative opinions about television and the education system that he didn’t hold back. Gave the tour some flair! Got to hold one of his young gators, too, that he brought on the boat. About an hour and a half in total and moved fairly slow.

Definitely a fun experience to go on a swamp tour. I’ve never been to a swamp and I was able to see the little man-​made huts, the Spanish weed blossoming that they have the trim often, trees, fallen logs, etc… I love nature.
We booked a tour early and decided to head here after the Oak plantation which is about ~30−40 minutes away. There a small snack hut, which I didn’t buy anything from, but useful for those hungry.
I got to hold a baby alligator, isn’t that everybody’s dream? I was surprised when the guide pulled out the crawfish he caught and the baby alligator from the buckets that I was sitting right next to me on the boat during his show and tell time!
The tour guide passed the little guy around, which had its mouth taped shut, he explained he lets it go back in the water and the frequent breaks they let the alligator have, it was very cute, and educated tourists the way they treat these alligators. We learned about permits and hunting for alligators as well. We saw ospreys, racoons, red-​eared sliders, and baby alligators in a December! I was pretty surprised the amount I saw considering I thought it was hibernation season. There is a toilet on the boat, which I was glad because after two hours on the cold boat, it was helpful.
They accept tips at the end of the tour. Just give it to the guide when you exit the tour, if you wish.

Hands down, best tour we went on during our NOLA trip. This little excursion (not even, around 30 – 40 min north of the French quarter) is SO worth your trip!
Captain T Tom was the funniest, most authentic and passionate guide we’ve had. He truly loves what he does and has been growing up doing what he currently does. He is very knowledgable on all there is to know in the swamp and the history behind it as well. He puts a lot of effort into maintaining the swamp and making sure all the inhabitants are safe and sound. He has a true southern accent, which can be difficult to understand at times but you really do get the real experience of the New Orleans swamp.
We were able to see many alligators, turtles, and the cutest raccoons as well! We threw marshmallows at the raccoons and they were so adorable: definitely not like the ones in California. He allows you to take lots of pictures and takes many stops along the way.
Captain Tom brought out a live baby alligator for everyone to hold!!! It was very exciting. He also brought out crawfish that the alligator would be eating later, as well as a snake he had caught the day before.
Each tour is different, depending on what he’s caught recently and what’s currently going on with the conditions of the swamp. (One time, he said he had caught something with his bait and skinned the fish right then and there in front of everyone!) Nevertheless, I guarantee you will have an amazing time on this tour especially with captain T Tom! Definitely ask for him!

I’m torn on this one, so I’ll just list the pros and cons:
Pros:
— Great swamp tour guide (emphasis on the guide, not the swamp), more knowledgeable and enthusiastic than a previous tour company I tried
— Fantastic bus driver who also acts as tour guide while you’re riding, filling your head with info on the New Orleans scenery you pass by
— Unbeatable price for a swamp + plantation tour, cheaper than a tour of just one of those places with another company
— Easy online reservation and payment system with almost immediate confirmation
Cons:
— TERRIBLE SWAMP:
1) We never left the main waterway to actually go into the bayou. That’s the real experience, being submerged among the cypress trees, shrouded in Spanish moss.
2) The reason we couldn’t do #1 was because the boat was too big, and there were no possible entryways anyway
3) No other wildlife besides alligators and the occasional turtle or bird. On the other swamp tour I did, we saw a mama boar and her babies, alligators, cranes, turtles, snakes, and other creatures
4) Exceedingly long and boring with too many stops so people can take their nth picture of an alligator. After about 10, nobody even bothered to take pics anymore
If you want a full swamp experience, I suggest the Honey Island Swamp Tour, particularly in Dec when the trees are bare and silver.

I didn’t think I’d ever need to do a swamp tour. I lived in Louisiana. I know about some of the wildlife there. I lived in front of a bayou — I get it.
BUT I WAS WRONG. And if you are in Louisiana and think you don’t need a swamp tour in your life, you’re wrong too. (Unless you have a crippling fear of alligators. In which case, you’re very, very right.)
My girl friends and I opted for the swamp tour (no plantation) plus hotel shuttle. We were picked up on time and had a great driver, who pointed out some areas in New Orleans during the drive and gave us some pre– and post-​Katrina history.
When we arrived at the tour site, we had plenty of time to check out the shop for inexpensive souvenirs or a quick snack and to use the (surprisingly super clean) restrooms. After killing a little bit of time, our group boarded the small boat.
Our captain was T Tom, who was rockin’ an authentic Cajun accent. We saw plenty of alligators and turtles (also some raccoons, which I think are disgusting), and I got several mosquito bites — blah, I should have known better and used bug spray.
We learned all about gator and nutria hunting and about the flora and fauna distinct to Louisiana. My favorite part was getting to hold a baby alligator — swoon!
I’d recommend Cajun Pride to anyone looking to learn more about swamp wildlife!

Cajun Pride is the way to tour NOLA!
I purchased the swamp and plantation combination tour and both were extremely fun! I have been to NOLA 4 times and never took the time to step out of the French Quarter and see other parts of Louisiana. I booked my reservations through their website and about 24 hours received a confirmation email.
They pick you up at your hotel and drive you out to La Place for the swamp tour. It’s about a 25 minute drive to La Place and the driver will tell you all about the surrounding areas you drive through, which is really awesome!
Once you get to the swamp, you can use the bathroom or purchase beverages or food before or after your tour. I was worried about lots of mosquitos, but I actually didn’t get bit once. The tour was really informative and there was a ton of alligators and land critters.
My favorite part of the swamp tour was being able to interact with all the animals they bring on board such as a snake, baby alligators and different kinds of turtles. It was really fun to see the tour guide feed the alligators get fed raw chicken and marshmallows! The best part thoughis when the guide called a gator by name and he came out of nowhere and swam up to the boat for a treat!
After the end of the swamp tour, you either get taken back to your hotel or board the bus to drive out to the plantation.
The Oak Alley Plantation has always been on my personal bucket list because I am a huge fan of Ann Rice’s Vampire series and this is the holy ground — since it was the home of Louie in the move ’ Interview with the Vampire.’ I LOVE the big Oak trees that line the property! They are absolutely breath taking! What makes them even more interesting is the fact that they were planted long before the property was built, and no one knows exactly who planted them?!
There is also old authentic slave quarters outside the plantation and it offers visitors a glimpse back in time to a dark chapter of American history — if that is something you’re curious about…
There’s a cool gift shop and restaurant on the property that serves amazing mint juleps and YUMMY popcorn shrimp if you’re looking for some nibbles.
I highly recommend Cajun Pride tours to anyone who isn’t sure who to book a tour through since there are SO many in NOLA! This was easily one of the highlights of my vacation this past September.

Being new to Louisiana, friends recommended we take a swamp tour. When we found this place on groupon we thought we’d give it a go. The reservation process was easy as was the check in process. We were directed to a outdoor porch area to sit and wait for our tour. There was a little café with a menu posted for snacks and Daiquiris, but it was not open. The ticket counter did sell beer, and there was a soda machine that sold bottles of soda for $ 2 and did not give change. The place was well maintained and did look like what you expect a Cajun Shack in the swamp to be like.
The tour itself was just okay. It was a nice boat ride, but it was long and we had to pull over a number of times to let the other boats pass. We did see a number of alligators and racoon’s. We doubled back a few times which also made the trip drag a bit. The stories the captain told were interesting, but after a while they go old too. I did not like that the captain threw marshmallows out to get the smaller gators to come up to the boat. With 4 tours a day and up to 4 boats each, that can’t be good for them. At least he threw monkey chow to the raccoons. I also did not like that the captain had a baby gator on ice in a cooler that he brought out for pictures during the tour. This dragged out the tour and is something that could easily be done at the dock. I felt sorry for the baby gator having her mouth tapped up and being passed around for photo ops. It might be good for tourism, but I refused to participate.
It was OK for one time, but it is not a place we would go back to again, even with another groupon. We’ll check out other tour operators before coming back here.

We did the combo swamp/​Oak Alley Plantation tour and from my research around the other companies offering the same tour, this was one of, if not the, cheapest and highest rated of all of them. We were staying at an airbnb outside of their pickup area, so we met them at their closest pickup location. Driver was funny and informative to and from locations.
We got to the swamp where they have a small gift shop, beverage station, restrooms, and an outside patio area while you wait for your tour. While you wait, you can walk around a little bit and visit with their kitties and baby alligators they keep in an incubated tank. The tour was a little over an hour on the boat with Captain Allen, and he was great. Growing up and living on the swamp, he was very insightful and entertaining. The alligators and raccoons would hear his voice and come running for their giant marshmallow treats! Then he let us hold one the smaller alligators. Absolutely beautiful out there in the swamp.
We got back to the dock and immediately took off for Oak Alley Plantation. They have a restaurant, café, and gift shop for tourists. Both the front and back of the main house entrances are lined on either side with Oaks older than the house itself. The docent, though only 16, was very informative and professional as she gave us a tour of the entire main house. Behind the main house there are recreated slave quarters.
Hands down would recommend Cajun Pride Tours to visitors!

I was so excited to take this tour… I’m a nature lover (and I mean a true nature lover… Which means I prefer to leave the animals alone for their own sake), and I really suffered during this tour.
I wanted to have a real tour in the swamps, I wanted to see nature in its NORMAL way, which means no alligator given the season, or whatever, just what nature had to offer.
We barely made a mile in the swamps… We made u-​turns and saw only a very small portion of the swamps. The boat captains (who is really good at what he’s doing, nothing personal here) was filling the gaps with passing poor panicked animals (snakes, alligators) from hands to hands… I hate that. They are not freak shows! Poor them…
They were passing dead animals as well, at least they cannot suffer anymore, anyway I don’t like that either it makes me really sad.
Top part of the trip (sarcastically spoken) was when the boat captain threw marshmallows to a raccoon just to lure him so tourists could make pictures. Marshmallows??? Sugar to an animal? Really? «They eat anything» that’s what the guide answered… Ok so people eat anything too, does it mean you have to poison them with shit?
I hate when human thinks he’s superior to the animal kingdom.
Well if you are a true nature lover, please run away.
If you are an average tourist with no empathy for animals, you probably will enjoy yourselves!
