Established in 1999.

Oakdale of La Mesa promotes choice, independence, and well-​being. We have a caring and compassionate staff, including nurses scheduled 24⁄7. You will find an activity calendar full of social events, outings, fitness classes, happy hours, scenic drives, cultural presentations, musical events, dancing, theatre, arts & crafts, Bingo, trivia, and card games. All residents will enjoy restaurant-​style dining featuring daily specials, a la carte options, homemade soups, desserts, and snacks. Hello! I have been working in sales, marketing, management, and customer service since I graduated from the University of Redlands in 2007. Although I had enjoyed my previous occupations, they never gave me the chance to express my true passion for serving others. Since working at Oakdale of La Mesa, I have had the opportunity to combine my educational and professional experience with my personal passion, by helping seniors and their families find the best living solution for their loved ones. It has been an extremely rewarding experience to help seniors move into our wonderful community and see them thrive! I am grateful to have found such an amazing community where I am able to express my true passion of serving others with integrity, respect, care, and compassion. My grandpa lived in the memory care area at Oakdale for about a year before he had to be moved to a convalescent hospital. Every week when I visited him for several hours, I could not help but think, Wow, I would like to live here! It was like a hotel and the service and care appeared to be perfection. Even the food was amazing! My family’s requests were always met and the staff treated my grandpa with the utmost respect and dignity. I know that my grandpa was very happy there, and he was so sorry to leave although he had to eventually due to his steadily deteriorating health.

The senior/​independent part of Oakdale of La Mesa is only okay. If your loved one currently needs or will soon need memory care, do yourself a favor and check out Stellar Care at Collwood Terrace and Elmcroft of La Mesa. The prices are a little higher, but the care and facilities are light years better than Oakdale of La Mesa.
For the person that said this place is clean, you might want to take a closer look and a smell of the memory care area. It is disgusting.

Was out recently to view Oakdale as an option for my grandmother because a good friend has his grandfather living here. He also asked me to write a review for him because he is not on the computer very often.
From my point of view, I met with Matthew and he was great to work with, he gave a great tour of the facility and introduced my grandmother and I to many of the residents. We spent a lot of time meeting and talking with the staff and there is no doubt that when the time is right this will be at the top of our list. For now we have my grandmother living at home with us which seems to be going really well.
As for my friend who has his grandfather living here, he has been at Oakdale for over a year and absolutely loves it. He really enjoys the daily activities, social gatherings and has made a lot of new friends among his neighbors. I see another negative review and yes there is a lot of paperwork involved with anything related to senior living and healthcare. Unfortunately from my experience it takes a few days or longer to place someone and it’s unfortunate that people like Todd S who spend 50% of their time leaving poor reviews are so quick to hurt someones reputation that can take so long to build up and be hurt in a matter of minutes with a few clicks of the mouse.
Oakdale is an older community but I spent about 3 weeks driving all over San Diego looking at senior living options for my grandmother. Based on what I have found and my friend who has his grandfather living at Oakdale you will be able to find nicer places but be prepared to pay for them. I think Oakdale is one of the most affordable options you can find in San Diego at this time. The quality of care has been excellent and the food is very good compared to many. If money is not an option go to the Vi in La Jolla but if you’re looking for a quality option that offers great service at a fair rate than Oakdale is worth checking out.

DO NOT BOTHER. I can’t say anything about the medical staff, but admissions, evaluations, and marketing staff were a huge challenge and wasted my entire family’s time.
This is a belated review. I meant to write this weeks ago. The marketing and admissions staff at this facility are awful with timely communication. I recently had an emergency with my mother, and after we worked out a financial agreement, the copious amounts of medical paperwork began. We did all of it. Throughout the entire process, my mother needed quick placement. The process dragged on for days. Every time I tried to call, I would get a voicemail. I would try to reach multiple staff people. Always a voicemail. We would wait 2, 3, 4 hours for a return call during a dire situation.
My favorite moment was calling at 11:30 Tuesday afternoon, I was told the person I was trying to reach was at lunch, but I could leave a message with the receptionist. After hearing nothing back, I called again at 1:15 trying to reach ANY staff member to give me an update. I was told «Everyone is at lunch right now.» I support self-​care, but that’s a long lunch break.
After three days of poor communication, I gave up and rescinded my decision to place my mother there. At the recommendation of a friend, I chose a different agency, and within 24 hours, my mother was placed there. And at this other facility, the staff are very polite, and they respond in a timely manner. They respect people and their families, unlike Oakdale.
Go elsewhere. You’ll have a much better experience. Do you want to have responsive staff who can evaluate accurately and quickly, or wait several days to a week to have someone care for your loved one?
I write this so others don’t have to go through what I did.

The first thing to remember in dealing with oakdale is that they require a large community fee up front. They told me that the check I wrote them would be not cashed until an assessment was made of my father. we called the next day and told them not to cash the check for $ 3,995.00 as we were looking at other options as we were advised that he required the stafff of a skilled nursing facility. They immediately cashed the check but did issue a refund for the $ 3,995.00.
