Decent place, getting brakes done and it is a reasonable price. They do try to sell you on everything they can, which is understandable. Came in for front brakes, knowing rears were bad as well but couldn’t afford both at the time and they tried to tell me they wouldn’t work on fronts if they couldn’t do rear as well. Mechanic however said he would do it, so the front desk people complied with him. I appreciate being pointed out that things are wrong. Was also pointed out that I have a bad rear shock which is leaking. Parts prices are high… quoted $ 200 for replacement shock. I looked up the same shock and found it for $ 68. Found an OEM one for $ 100. I will most likely return as brake prices were about $ 80 cheaper than other places I called.

Every time we have been here we have left happy.
Most places charge just to look at the car and they have never charged us. It’s nice to go somewhere that you can trust them not to swindle you!!!

DON’T EVER GO HERE PLEASE READ… diagnosed problem wrong with my 2002 murcury mountaineer said my fan clutch and belt tensioner was bad that cost couple hundred dollars. That wantsn the problem turns out I need a timing chain that cost thousands and gave me excuse for wrong diagnosis and the fan clutch they put in was defective my car sounded like a trash truck so they replaced it next day only for it to continue to sound like a trash truck. Don’t even bother to write a bbb on them either to get you’re problem fixed because that’s what I did and the only response I got was from Scott the owner at the university Midas not someone higher than him through the bbb. And it’s ridiculous that Scott didn’t want to reimburse me a measly $ 100 for gas money that I had to give family and friends to take me and my family to do stuff like shopping and appointments because I didn’t want the fan clutch that was still clearly put in wrong to cause further damage. there excuse for the trashtruck noise for the fan clutch was that it was normal that that noise lets you know the fan is working. lol but yet all the other cars on the road don’t sound like that. what makes this Midas even worse is that the owner has an explorer around the same year as mine which are made the exact same way because there both made by Ford and said that they know that car well. BUT CLEARLY THEY DON’T

This place is awesome!!! Manuel always helps me out and has great service! I can come last minute (as I am now) and they’ll hook it up.

I see you write the same exact message to every unsatisfied customer you most have a saved message you send to all your complaints went in your two mechanics both told me it was motor mounts I needed and you fixed them twice I paid allot of money. Turns out I need a a whole new engine which only confirms your mechanics don’t know what they are doing. I have no need to talk to you anymore and will never visit your midas again end of story buddy.

This review is specifically about Scott at this location.
Scott was working the front desk and he checked me in to have my exhaust system looked at. When Scott came back to let me know what was wrong with my car, he really helped me understand what it is that needed to be fixed on my car. He even drew me a picture to show me what he was talking about.
Unfortunately, Midas was unable to do the repairs on my car because of what the repaired required and Scott told me that I would probably have to go to the dealer and it would cost around $ 1,200 because of the part. But then he recommended that I go down the street to check out a local business and see if they could possibly do a fix instead of replacing the part.
So here I am at the business he recommended, getting the part fixed for only $ 100!
I am so appreciative that Scott cared enough about me as a customer to offer me alternatives to getting my car repaired, especially because I know nothing about cars. He could have easily just told me that Midas couldn’t do anything for me and let me leave.

I had been to this Midas/​SpeeDee Oil Change place twice for oil changes because it is close to my house and convenient. You can get oil changes at other places for cheaper but that is not really here nor there. This review is specifically for my experience last week at this place.
My car needed an alignment, tire rotation and I was just about due for an oil change so I decided to get all 3 things done at once. I called them to price everything out. Over the phone, they said an alignment was $ 79.99 and an oil change was $ 34.99 but they would rotate my tires for free. Cool deal. I asked them about how long it would take if I brought my car in first thing on a week day. They said «no more than a couple hours».
I took my car in at 7:30am this past Friday morning. The guys at the desk are nice, I will give them that. My experience with my past oil changes have always been fine. I did see than an alignment was actually $ 89.99, not the $ 79.99 I was quoted over the phone. Meh, whatever. The guy said my car would be done in about an hour. But instead of waiting I had my girlfriend pick me up and we went to @Spacebar coffee shop to grab some coffee and pass the time. After not getting a call that my car was done after a couple hours, we decided to go on with our day and our errands and I would pick up my car when we had to pick one of our kids at school in the afternoon. 2pm rolls around, still no call from them. So I call them and ask if my car was done yet. They said it had been done. So I asked why I never got a call about it. The guy said something along the lines of «your car was worked on before I got here so I have no idea why you didn’t get a call». A little annoying they didn’t call me but not really a huge deal.
When I go to pick up my car I pay up the $ 89.99 + $ 34.99 and decide to not bitch about not getting a call. I walk outside to get my car and notice they have not rotated the tires. I could tell this because the front two tires are always the dirtiest and they were still in the same position. So I go back in and ask why they didn’t rotate the tires. He pulls open the paperwork and gives me the schpeel about how they couldn’t rotate my tires because they have to keep the best tires on the back, yada yada. I mean, I know this is policy but thanks for calling to tell me you couldn’t rotate my tires. I really only got the oil change because I really needed my tires rotated. So basically I wasted $ 35 and didn’t get my tires rotated. I highly doubt my tires are that worn down. I got a full set at Costco maybe 6 months ago. So this place was going to have me walk out of there not even telling me they couldn’t get the tires rotated.
In summary, my most recent experience was terrible because:
— mis-​quoted price online
— never got a call that my car was done (I had to call them to ask!)
— they didn’t call me to tell me they couldn’t rotate my tires and went ahead with the oil change anyways
— they didn’t tell me they couldn’t rotate my tires even after I had the keys again. I went back in and asked why it wasn’t done
And so, I am never going back here again. I don’t care if it is the closest auto place from my house. They are disorganized and don’t know how to communicate. In other words, bad customer service.

Scott and his crew are the best, excellent workmanship, outstanding customer service, friendly and very Honest. Highly recommend them.

Really nice guys. Didn’t try to up sell me on anything. In and out in 45 minutes for oil change and airfilter and cabin filter change.

These guys are great and easy to work with. They install my Catalytic Converter on my Ferrari… ok it’s a Honda Ridgeline. The Honda dealer charges me almost $ 1000 for labor, I only got charged ¹⁄₃ of that at Midas. Look for these guys, Manuel or Scott. They will take care of you. Thank you very much guys. These guys are pros and know their business, looking out for you and your ride.
Now when you go in, understand right off the bat that they’re going to want to upsell you on something. Don’t get all bent out of shape about it, because you know full well that all places do that, from the bookstore to the video store. Just accept that it is part of the game, but more importantly, pay attention. It is going to be valid information they’re sharing with you, and might very well be applicable, so educate yourself first on what is needed, before you act like a sheep and hand over your benjamins.
Soapbox moment over
So I had a few things to be taken care of, and they pointed out one more item for me to be aware of… not a front burner issue, just be aware. I was good with that knowledge. The final price was reasonable and wasn’t sticker shock in the least.

Where to start?
When I came in, there was a guy outside yapping with some chick, another guy working on another car, and the guy at the counter greeted me nicely, he took my info and went out to give the other guys my paperwork. This is when the guy yapping stopped yapping with the chick but then started yapping with the guy who was at the counter. They yapped for a good 5 minutes before the other guy working on the other car came over and grabbed my paperwork and started working on my car. I only came on for an oil change and I called ahead to see if they were busy, they said they weren’t so I came over right away. Overall once someone started to work on my car it was pretty quick.

This is my second visit to Midas. I’ve had my oil changed on two of my cars here.
First thing you will notice is the friendly staff. They are all very attentive and knowledgeable. Manuel, in particular, is a real stand up guy. Very caring and down to Earth. Frank was my mechanic. He was very competent. He was great at paying close attention to detail, and they made recommendations without putting any pressure on me.
I will definitely keep bringing them my business… Thanks for all you do, guys:)

If I could give a –star I would. I Spoke to owner Kimberly Torres trying to make an appointment for an oil change. She put me off until January because I told her I had a groupon card. This is the second time I had to make an appt amd wait months. Of course I could not wait months so both times I had to go somewhere else. I told her that if they did not want to honor the groupon they should not have agreed to do the groupon program special. She then proceeded to explain to me that they agree with the company blah blah blah. Not my problem I have purchased this for an oil change they should honor it regardless. She was extremly rude. I use to take all my cars to midas in the past without groupons but of course who does want a good deal. After speaking to Kimberly I will never use midas in la mesa Again. Customer service is horrible aurguing and placing blame and excuses on others. I asked for corporate number but she refused to give it to me. From this experience I will never take my cars to midas on university again. If I could give Kimberly a minus star I would. Very bad business they used groupon to help with marketing but did not hold up to their end of the deal. I know I work in marketing and promotions one of the worsd things you could do is bac customer service. Even if it was not what you expected. HONOR YOUR COMMITMENT. Instead of treating your customers bad for you not getting the correct information from auto care service.

I actually didn’t have any repairs done here. I live quite far but was purchasing a used vehicle from a private party in that area. So I called and spoke to Manuel Long, after the owner of the used vehicle agreed to bring the truck in for a full inspection. The truck was brought in and Manuel had it, (or did it himself?) inspected. He called me immediately to give me a full report, which turned out to be a lot of minor things. Anyway I liked that he was so thorough, honest and seemed to be looking out for my best interest. Although, I didn’t have work done here, due to Manuel’s excellent phone skills I give this midas an A++ for customer service.
Ps even the owner of the truck pointed out how thorough they were, he seemed impressed.

Don’t get a groupon, etc and try to get an oil change here!!! 1) you have to make an appointment for an oil change if you have a coupon. No walk ins. This particular franchise owner only allows x number of them to be used a day. 2) because of this, their next available appt for me would be October. (That’s 3 months away). Wish these restrictions would have been stated at the time of purchasing the groupon. Seems like another business owner who got caught up in selling more groupons/​coupons to make a little profit that didnt have the manpower or logistics worked out to satisfy all the customers needs. Waste of $$$$ in my opinion. Instead of creating repeat customers now you have a handful of bad comments online and word of mouth for your business.

Scott, Raydon, and Rick are really nice guys. They did best and saved me money on what I needed done. And when I come back with more questions about other car stuff. They are happy to answer my questions or look over my car for me. Great guys!

I’ve been going there for years and they have always had great customer service. They go above and beyond every time.

Brought my car in for an oil change about two months ago. The oil change was fine however when I got my car back the contents of my glovebox had been emptied all over my passenger floor. When I brought it to the attention of the person at the front desk the reaction was *shrug* «what can you do now?» I would really expect better customer service than that, especially since the technicians really did not need to go into the glovebox, at all.
Not only that, but I had several questions regarding my oil change and they were completely unhelpful. I would never, never use Midas again based on their awful customer service especially considering how expensive they are for their services.
