Founded in 2012 by Fria Malihi who has been a licensed master esthetican since 2003, The Pretty Box has created a safe haven for the most talked about beauty services. Fria Malihi has utilized her passion and love for the beauty and skin care in creating a place of organic beauty and the art of woman’s needs. Starting from facials to waxing to lash extensions, The Pretty Box has devoted its craft to developing and creating new ways to make these experiences less painful and more therapeutic. This quaint little boutique sits in the heart of La Jolla Village a walk from the cove and beach. Forget all the terrible things you have heard about waxing and lash extensions! Business Owner

Born in Pampanga, Philippines but grew up in Las Vegas Nevada, Fria faced terrible skin issues including chronic acne and eczema which caused tremendous challenges growing up. This led her to dedicate her life in creating beauty not only for her own image but for those men and women who had the same issues. In 2002, she enrolled in beauty school in her quest to be one of the best beauticians in the world.

Fria finished school and went straight to an apprenticeship with Grin and Bare It of Las Vegas, a waxing and skin care boutique. A year later, Fria leased her own space at Grin and Bare It but continued her education with her mentor. 3 years after that, Fria headed to San Diego, CA got married and gave birth to a 9 pound 9 oz baby boy named Mason. In 2012, The Pretty Box was created! Fria now has the opportunity to showcase her passion, eye for detail and the craft for beauty.

At first I was a little hesitant on getting eyelash extensions. I mean, I love wearing fake eyelashes. But I am so used used to taking them off right after before going to bed.
But after a little convincing from my boss, I finally gave in and decided to try this place out.
This place is SUPER cute! Once I walked in, I was immediately greeted by one of the girls there (Iris) who did my eyelashes. She asked what kind of style I wanted (I chose the diva look) and also told me before hand that it would take about an hour to do, I kid you not it didn’t even feel like it was that long. We talked about so much stuff and laughed at a lot of things that I literally lost track of time and next thing I knew, I was done. And man, she did a great job at it! I LOVE my eyelashes! Super light weight and I sometimes even forget that I have them on.
I’m definitely coming back again in 3 weeks to fill these bad boys up! Haha
I’m officially addicted.

Fria — You are amazing!
Initially, I was seeing another person for my extensions, but was beginning to feel that I should venture out. My cousin referred me to Fria and man, am I glad she did. I was able to get a prompted appointment. Fria was patient, answered all of my questions, and most of all? I felt absolutely no pain. I am so happy with the results. Soooo happy to have found my lash person!

I have been a client of Fria’s for several years now — she is the absolute best at lashes! If you have been anywhere else for lashes or its your first time: try her — you won’t believe how great the quality of the lashes are and how beautifully she customizes to bring out your eye shape.

I went to Pretty Box last Wednesday to try eyelash extensions for the first time. I chose to go here because it was rated so highly on Unilocal.I was surprised to see the location, it was not very nice inside, and I was barely greeted by the lady working there, who also did my lashes. I had my lashes applied on Wednesday, and by the following Monday, all of the lashes on my right eye had fallen off, and most of my left eye as well. I followed all instructions to ensure that the lashes stay on as long as possible. I’m really disappointed in my experience at Pretty Box. If I’m going to pay $ 100 for eyelash extensions, I’d rather go to a nice place with friendly people working there who do a high quality job.

Best lash extensions in San Diego! I’ve been seeing Fria for my lash extensions for about five months now and I’m completely addicted. I’ve been in the beauty business for over 20 years and I can tell you she’s a pro. Her place is so cozy and her energy is super relaxed… not to mention shes fast with her craft but never compromises on quality. Whether I come in for a fill with two lashes left or twenty lashes left she is consistent and friendly and always fair with her pricing. She’s the best.

Fria is an absolute master at eyelash extensions! As a hairdresser in La Jolla, I had been skeptical of eyelash extensions after hearing clients horror stories. Then, I began to notice a trend. every client who went to Fria loved her and had beautiful extensions!
I finally gave her a try and am so happy I did! She is quick, amazing, and affordable! I have received countless compliments on my lashes and am officially addicted! If you have ever considered lash extensions, you should definitely see Fria! I have sent many friends and clients to her and they all love her just as much as I do!

Three stars because in the Unilocal world, that means «A-​OK.» Fria is good at what she does, her salon is kept clean, and after her work, my lashes looked lovely. She took my eyelash extension v-​card and I have been hooked ever since.
Loss of two stars because of friendliness and price. It appears as if many of you have much different luck, so I don’t know why my story is different, but I never felt like a valued customer. It didn’t seem like she cared about me or my patronage. I went back to her a second time just in case my initial visit was an isolated incident, but it was the same story. I don’t expect to become besties, in fact, I really don’t want my ear to be talked off during during an appointment, but I do want to know that I matter and that you are interested.
As far as price goes: I was referred by a coworker who said she had a special that month. I believe her full set was $ 80, or something like that– which is reasonable. I asked about fills and she said they can range depending on how many weeks you wait. The range she gave me was very different from what I was charged after my fill, which made me unhappy. I still tipped her, but resolved that our relationship had to end.
I am the type of person who deeply wants to be a loyal customer– especially to a small business owner. It made me sad to break up with the Pretty Box, but it was for the better. It appears as if we are both doing just fine these days :)

I love love love how Fria does my eyelashes!
I’ve been getting my lashes done since 2011, and I have gone to 3 or 4 girls over the years, but Fria is one of the best. She has such a soothing yet friendly energy, is professional, and takes pride in her work.
Something that really impressed me about Fria was that out of all the girls I have seen, and all the years I have been getting lashes, the first time she did mine, she noticed that one of my eyes is a little smaller than the other. She mentioned how she noticed this, and she explained that she could use different lengths than my other eye, to even out my look, and by creating dimension a certain way. Sure enough, when she did this, I could tell right away that my eyes looked more even. I think it takes a perfectionist and someone who is really observant, to notice small things like this.
Her place is really cute and cozy. It’s also really convenient to schedule, because you can just go online to

If you’ve never had your lashes done before and are nervous, I think Fria is the perfect person for you, and if you’re a regular lash girl looking for a great esthetician, Fria is the one! I know her salon offers other services as well, but I haven’t tried them yet — but I will!

After I got my first set of lashes done in San Francisco. It wasn’t even a week yet and they started to look a lot thinner. I found this place on Unilocal and decided to set up an appointment. I told Fria that I got a natural set of lashes (every other lash had an extension) and that I wanted a fuller look.
After explaining to her what I wanted, she knew exactly what would fit the built of my lashes. I am so happy how they turned out!!!
I was a bit anxious about the adhesive because I had a pretty bad tearing reaction when I got them done in San Francisco. But the adhesive that Fria uses gave me no tearing or sensitivity at all!
Even though I just got my lash extensions done in San Francisco, Fria informed me that most of my lash extensions were grown out and sparse. So she had to remove some of them and it was completely painless!
Here is a list to why I gave this place five stars
–easy to make an appointment
— reasonable prices (also the $ 119 promotion for any type of lash extensions is a great deal)
— the adhesive does not harm or irritate my sensitive eyes
— Fria is very quick and gentle on my lashes
— clean place
— they use faux mink lash extensions that feel so light and comfortable (doesn’t even feel like I have them on)
— the protection pads they use for my under eyes during application peeled off very easily after I was finished with my session.
— My lashes look so natural, full, and are exactly what I wanted.
— they tell you what kind of adhesive they use (cyanoacrylate). Unlike the lash extension place in San Francisco who told me they don’t give out the name or ingredients used in their adhesive.
It has been about 10 minutes since my application and so far I feel no sensitivity. My lashes feel as light as a feather. As opposed to my first set of lashes, which gave me immediate discomfort and a «dry-​eye» feeling.
If you are ever in San Francisco, don’t go to LASH LAb despite their reviews.
The Pretty Box gives you the lash extension experience that you should have. No discomfort, lashes that suit your eye shape and lash built, and quick application (it didn’t even take an hour for my full set of lashes). Thank you Fria! I’m definitely going to make an appointment with you soon again!

I have been going to Fria for a year now and I am hooked! I absolutely love that I can wake up, put on a little powder, blush and lipgloss and I’m ready to go. On the days that I do my eye makeup (which realistically is almost every day) my eyes are that much more dramatic without having to deal with all the eyelash maintenance that I used to do. (Curling lashes, putting on false lashes, million coats of mascara) It is such a time saver and they seriously look so real that I’ve gotten so many «wow, your eyelashes are so long!» complements. I highly recommend Fria, she is a perfectionist. I can wear my lashes for 3weeks and they still look great.

I never thought I would get eyelash extensions but I did and I absolutely love them! Fria does such an amazing job. Getting ready is super quick and easy and I get tons of compliments. Fria is professional, super sweet and her place is very comfortable.
I also had the Enzyme Facial the last time I was there and my skin was glowing and I felt so relaxed and pampered when I was done.
