La Valencia Hotel

We dined at the hotel lounge on the patio and it was so pretty. We went for drinks and apps before our dinner down the street. Our waitress Jessica Y. (table 604) was so so sweet! She really made our night. She was so kind to us, even brought us a birthday treat and was just so engaging and nice. The scenery even at night is very pretty. I highly recommend the place for a night cap.

Came here for some drinks. They view of the ocean is magnificent, and coming here during weekend, you get to have live music.
This place makes you feel like you are going out of town. The decors are very exotic and classy, and the interior design is incoporated with lots of details.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the LA VALENCIA.
Our ocean view room provided a gorgeous view. In addition the staff were lovely.
With that said, we did NOT like the shower design. It seemed incomplete and truth be told… we hated it.
The option of fixed or removable shower head was great; and the option of having both flowing at the same time was wonderful. In addition the shower itself was quite spacious.
However these positive features are completely negated by the lousy, incomplete design of a shower without a door.
In addition, the door to the bathroom could be especially dangerous to children as it is easy to catch one’s fingers in the door and can be difficult to retrieve the door if it slides too far in sir.
On a scale of 1 – 10 your bathroom gets a 4(FOUR).
Other than that everything else in the hotel, design, decorum, atmosphere and ambience were lovely.
LA VALENCIA’S «claim to fame» so to speak is the GORGEOUS views that it offers of the ocean. And indeed… the view from our oceanfront room was indeed magnificent.
The LA VALENCIA is an old hotel and the picturesque, nostalgic décor and classic design are wonderful.
The area of La Jolla is very upscale… actually it is THE upscale of San Diego so sometimes you get the «La Jolla» attitude from some people. The THIRTY (30) dollar overnight parking valet can also be a surprise if you are not prepared. With that said, if you can find parking on the street you are in good shape.
If you are contemplating a trip to San Diego and looking to enjoy what La Jolla has to offer, consider staying in the LA VALENCIA.

I enjoyed a nice solo staycation here at the La Valencia on ¹²⁄₂₆ for one night in room 519.
A solo staycation you say??! Yup. I brought me a planner, chocolates, and wine. Sometimes you just gotta get away from it all and free your mind .solo …you know? And this place was just so great for this purpose.
The king room was for a garden view but I saw a bit of the ocean out the window so I appreciated that ! The check in people were prompt and friendly… even received a call once I got into my room to make everything was okay.
Room a nice size, though not huge… with desk, chair, tv, king bed, robe, safe, closet, iron and board, Keurig, stand up shower, ceiling fan, flat screen tv and free wifi.
I have to admit the king bed was not as comfortable as I hoped… the sheets that is. They were scratchy and a bit itchy. It may be that I’m spoiled with my Pima cotton sheets… but I did expect pure soft blissful sheets. Though I liked the bath products (high end) and the classic touch and stone in the bathroom … I wasn’t fond of the half glass shower… thing. It was half open and no door to shut so water sprayed a bit out onto the floor. Tip: lay out a towel on the ground !
Two other things… I know 100% I left my lounge pants on the bed. I called the next day and they said they don’t have anything. They were made in Italy and expensive pants … So sad they went missing … Second … I got an extra «0.40» cent charge two days later on my card. Hey, it’s the principle… not the money. Called and they said they charged me incorrectly the first time so they added the .40 cents to make up for it. Come on ! Either call to tell me as a courtesy or heck, just don’t charge me the .40 cents two days later.
The grounds were beautiful, the garden picturesque and literally around the corner is the La Jolla cove. Steps to great restaurants, Starbucks, sushi, Italian restaurants, grassy area.
Tip: valet parking is $ 30 bucks a night. I recommend you park the First Republic bank for $ 20 overnight. It’s a super short walk (just a few minutes).

Beautiful hotel and beautiful views! I came here for an event held in one of their ballrooms so can’t speak to the experience of a guest of the hotel, but everything I saw was impressive. Great service, great food, and amazing location.

Stayed here over a weekend for a wedding. Since I’m a local they upgraded me to a full view ocean room with balcony-​off to a great start! The room was nicely sized with a sitting area. Even though the rooms aren’t super updated I appreciate the feel since its a hotel from the 20s. The hotel is built on a side of a hill so getting around can be a little confusing at first until you’re orientated.
My room had an issue with a leak from the bathroom above me. Called maintenance to report and that’s the last I heard of it. They provide two bottles of water daily, plenty of towels and they replenish your amenities-​no scrimping here!
At night we visited the café la rue and had a wonderful time. As a cocktail enthusiast I appreciated how I could throw cocktails at them and they didn’t flinch at the name or seem to need to look it up. Which is a great sign in my opinion.
There was a little mix up when I checked out as there as another car valeted on my bill. No questions asked as it is was promptly removed. Overnight is $ 30 and you do get in and out privileges which is convenient for out of towners.
Even though I live in a neighborhing city and I enjoyed my time and would definitely return for a weekend «away». Everyone was extremely helpful and pleasant-​outstanding customer service!

We stayed here for one night. We got the vintage king room which was so clean and comfy (even though the bathroom was too small)
The concierge was very helpful and friendly.
The heater in our room didn’t work properly, we asked them to fix it but they sent a little heater instead, which was ok.
I loved the spanish style in the hotel.

Awesome place, be sure to ask for Mike T. at the front bar. He’s great. I’ve come here numerous times just to see him.

My wife and I got married up the street and spent our first few nights here and loved it! A week before I received an email from them offering to display a picture of my choice. My wife loved this surprise. They left champagne and strawberry chocolate desserts. I think they also upgraded us to a room with a better view of the ocean. It was on the 3^rd floor, all the way on the end near the fire escape. The hotel wasn’t loud, all the staff were amazing, and we loved the surrounding area too.

I’ve always wanted to go into this hotel, it’s been in La Jolla forever and the rich and famous stay there. Since I’m neither it’s always felt too expensive. Had been to a meeting so we opted to have lunch there. It was mid afternoon, about 2:30 and a beautiful day so we decided to sit on the terrace. Such a view, nothing like it in the world. However, what we didn’t know was that they have a very and I do mean very limited menu at that time of the day. There were a few appetizers, a couple of sandwiches and a couple of salads and that was it. Had we known that we would have gone to one of the other places nearby to eat.
My friend and I split a flat bread which was good but not amazing and each had a salad. Again, good but not amazing. Our other friend had a burger on a pretzel bun which looked very tasty and she said was pretty darn good.
I think had we eaten at a specified meal time our experience would have been better but for this we didn’t think the cost justified what our choices were.

The service, views, location, local sights and things to do are unforgettable ! I highly recommend this hotel. They accept dogs of all sizes for a very nominal fee. Ill definitely be back many times!

My friends got married here earlier this month and I was very impressed with the staff and the venue. This classic hotel with ocean views was the perfect place for a wedding. The wedding was held outside on the lawn with the ocean as a backdrop and the reception was inside in one of the banquet rooms. Great food, great service. Valet parking was only $ 8. I was very impressed and happy to witness the wedding of two great people.

I stayed here on the weekend I proposed to my fiancé, and my weekend could not have been more perfect! The whole proposal was facilitate and co-​orchestrated by myself, the concierge, hotel managers, and restaurant staff, who were all incredibly accommodating when it came to following my VERY SPECIFIC instructions on how I wanted everything to go. Where to begin…
The Concierge (Nancy) and I worked together on just about everything that was planned. From choosing the location of the proposal, to the booking of the room (with multiple flower surprises), to the dinner reservations, Nancy was on top of everything and she was all around great to work with. She made us feel extremely welcome and comfortable. Thank you for everything Nancy!
Johan was our server at the celebratory dinner. He was incredibly generous and patient with our noise level, and he made us all feel very well accommodated for such a large group. The setting was amazing, the service was excellent, and the food was fantastic!
I also want to mention Michael, who was generally just there to make sure we were as comfortable and happy as we possibly could be. That also goes for the entire hotel staff who were all around very accommodating and pleasant, not to mention the hotel itself is beautiful and offers the most romantic setting you could possibly ask for. It’s also centrally located in La Jolla near downtown, so a quick walk to all the food, shopping, and beaches we could possible ask for.
Bottom line, this is my new favorite hotel, and I will always remember the amazing experience I had there. Thanks again La Valencia Hotel!!! We’ll be back!!!

I travel all the time and am ever surprised with delight and then again disappointment. I booked thru Hotwire and selected a La Jolla hotel since no downtown locations were even within my budget. Reading the Unilocal reviews for 3^rd party res, I was concerned! But no my friends, I asked for and got a gorgeous corner view room! Coffee machine!!! 24-​hr room service! Makes me want to order cheesecake at 3:42am! Old school vibe and service. Delightful! People: order the Hemingway Daiquiri! Sit on the veranda! Bring your swimsuit! This place rocks! You are welcome.

Back in LaJolla and the lovely LaValencia. Was upgraded to a lovely villa with ocean views. (Yup — took one for the team!). This is a great little charming hotel and a great break from the major hotel chains. In the heart of cutesy LaJolla it oozes old money charm.
The villa was to die for. Lovey views of the ocean and private balcony. The bath was extra large and spacious. A gas fireplace was a perfect touch for chilly ocean breezes. The main pool is heated but I didn’t try it so can’t comment. This is a charming little hotel with tons of nooks and crannies.

Great view, attentive service. We only had the drinks, they were good, you’re definitely paying for a view and a zip code. I’m not sure how the food is or how the hotel service is. Great spot for a view of La Jolla!

Best hotel/​resort experience ever. I could write a novel about how wonderful our stay at the La Valencia or as they call her the «Pink Lady» was! The property was, is, and always will be beautiful. My wife arranged the hotel for my birthday. We stayed for two nights.
From check in to the time we left we we’re treated like royalty and even now I long for the day I can return. We stayed in room 1022 which is in the tower of the hotel. As soon as we entered our mouths dropped at how incredible the room was. The windows wrap around the entire room giving you an amazing view of La Jolla. As the sun sets you feel on the edge of the world.
The cleanliness was exceptional, and the beds felt like clouds. One of the best night sleeps I’ve ever had. What made this hotel the best possible experience, however, was the personal service afforded to us by the staff. Everyone was wonderfully cheery and accommodating, The staff really goes out of there way to make you feel special. I even received a personal hand-​written note congratulating me on my birthday which was accompanied by some indulging chocolate covered strawberries and champagne. We were having such a good time we never set foot outside the hotel. The pool was perfect and the bar tender took great care of us.
I’ll pause here and say there are many great restaurants on La Jolla however dinner at La Valencia is a culinary experience. The chief is on another level above and beyond anyone in La Jolla. We had a 5 course meal and everything we tasted was to die for. In the evening we would wrap the night up and hang out in the hotels La Sala lobby bar. I love this bar/​lobby. It makes you feel as if you’ve traveled back in time and transported into a beautiful Spanish gem. This is what lounging is truly all about. La Sala to me is truly the hotels pluse. It has a free-​flowing vibe with a range of contrasting moods, color, people, and energy that is captivating.
As I said I could write a novel about this hotel. In the end all I can say is I will ABSOLUTELY without a doubt stay at the Pink Lady the next time we are in La Jolla. I am spreading the word to everyone we know! This is the best hotel in town. THANK YOU ALL for a wonderful visit!

Since we were on a quick little vacay without the puppets we thought we would take full advantage of all our favorite places in Socal and La Valencia was one of them. We came in to have a noon time cocktail in the beautiful lounge complete with a view of the ocean and La Jolla shores. Bloody Mary’s were perfection and service was gracious. This Old World hotel is adorned in Mexican tiles, rod iron balcony’s and richly adorned walls with artwork and tapestries. I’d love to come in the evening since I saw a baby grand so I’m sure next time I’ll be back for a sunset cocktail and maybe a room!

Amazing. What can i say. Chef James M is the bomb. What can’t he do. The fresh fish and sushi dishes he comes up with are to die for. The Hotel is gorgeous, the views are the best of La Jolla. The Hotel is Renowned and you can’t miss the signature pink building on Prospect. Music on the front patio in the evenings and weekends, piano bar, beautiful garden, in fact we just had a baby shower downstairs in the garden and it is the perfect place for one, or a tea party! Valet is the way to go since LJ gets so busy. There is plenty of things to do around the Hotel also, tons of shopping and other eats to check out. Cupcake shops, Ice Cream stores but if you didn’t wan to leave you wouldn’t have to. The bar has incredible desserts with a different atmosphere, more casual and a great place to meet new folks and locals. The know how to do it right.
