La Jolla Biltmore Motel

Location is key. Most of the motel is outdated, but the room i got was decently equipped and new flooring. It seems that the other rooms will be updated soon too.
Prices aren’t bad; staff is courteous; and it’s right next to the ocean.
Hopefully this place continues to improve.

DO NOT RENT HERE IT’S DISGUSTING AND HE KEPT OUR MI NE PLEASE BEWARE!!! We checked in and didn’t like the room and the owner kept our money and wouldn’t even give us a receipt. This place is a SCAM! !! UR BETTER OFF SLEEPING IN UR CAR!!! He technically just stole from us. Please so not stay here rooms are gross and smell like crap!!! This place needs to be shut down !!!

Too bad condition. And the manager is unwilling to cancel the rest of our days when we are unsatisfied. Never go to this motel.

The biltmore is a wonderful place to stay! My girlfriend and I stayed here for two nights. The rooms were clean and the management is wonderful (tom and Katherine)! They were very kind and went out of there way to find us great deals around town. Also we felt very safe here, no shady people hanging around. I absolutely recommend the biltmore to any San Diego vacationers. Also the price was fabulous, cheapest in town! We will be staying here every time we’re in town!

Do not let the Biltmore title throw you off. Biltmore should be angry this place has the Biltmore name in the title of this motel.
We booked this place through an online booking site. We got here very late from out of town. We checked in. The manager asked for a deposit of $ 50 in cash. Which above the door it states there will be a $ 10 deposit per key not a $ 50 deposit. Also, this $ 50 cash deposit was not stated in our email confirmation. I have a screen shot of our booking confirmation stating no hidden fees.
We got to our room. It’s was dirty. The sheets had yellow stains and pubic hair all over them. The TV didn’t work. It didn’t even have a remote. The carpet was lifting up all over the place. There were holes you could feel under your feet that carpet covered. Even the curtains were full of stains. The chair inside the room smelled like urine. The room was beyond scary. We went back to the «manager» Tom Valent. We told him we could not stay there and were canceling the 3 additional nights we had booked. We told Tom we wanted the 2 nights back, since we knew we would not get the first night back, that was stated in the email confirmation as well. It stated any changes made before checking in or upon arrival the first night was charged. Tom refused to give us our money back for the next 2 nights. Tom was rude and antagonistic towards us. Tom even told us we shouldn’t have expected a 3 star hotel. This wasn’t even a 1 star hotel. I have most of our treatment on video that was posted to YouTube.
Tom offered us another room. We went to look at it– mind you, we videoed this the majority of this encounter. This next room the bed wasn’t even made, there were wet towels on the floor and trash all over, obvious it had not been cleaned prior to the last guest. We went back to Tom. Tom offered yet another room. Again, sheets yellow and stained. Cords all over the floor. It was dirty as well. And that TV didn’t even work on a shelf that the tv was wobbly when you walked by it.
We saw 3 rooms– all dirty and disturbing. We asked for our money back for at least the 2 of the 3 nights we had booked, like our confirmation email stated was the policy. Tom refused to refund any money back.
So we are out $ 262 for the whole weekend. This wasn’t a suitable place for anyone to stay. We left with out our money and without a suitable place to sleep at 2am. We slept in our vehicle near the ocean the first night after getting into town at 1am tired and exhausted. This place should be condemned and closed down. This place also is a scam and a fraud and will steal your money. Beware. Do not stay here. I feel bad for any who are ripped off from this La Jolla Biltmore Motel or bring their children here as it is not a suitable place to bring a child.
I reported this business to the BBB. This motel responded with lies to our complaint. Biltmore Motel said we were in the room over 30 min before ‘complaining’. With the time showing when we took the video and the time posted on the receipt this first claim is a lie. The Biltmore then went on to say that they showed us clean rooms, we have on video Tom showing us rooms that were not cleaned in between guests. Biltmore added that WE trashed hotel rooms and then drove off with their key to the room. Stealing their key. That is another lie. The keys to any rooms we were shown were given right back. Biltmore also slanderously accused my husband and myself «may have been consuming prior to check in» or trying to get an unjustifiable refund, calling my husband and myself «juvenile and belligerent» in their best efforts to satisfy us. Plain insulting. They claimed their linens were new. What a way to do business! What a crock! Just a bunch of lies they came back with. We have video of our stay and posted it to YouTube under La Jolla Biltmore Motel Stay Part 1, 2 and 3. The videos do not lie.

Don’t go near this place, manager reeks of pot, room reeked of smoke, no towels, no complete covering of window so people can see in room all night-​filthy room
stains on wall-​the pictures on internet do not show the truth-​manager refused to
give a refund even after all of this.

If you like meth heads, pot heads, hypodermic needles outside near the dumpster and the occasional shooting then by all means stay at the «Scenic» Biltmore. This place is a dump and truly needs to be bulldozed. There have been TWO shootings within the last 6 months. There are fist fights out in the parking lot. The police are there every other day due to criminal activity. In December individuals were arrested for selling heroine out of one of the rooms!!! The owner should be ashamed of himself.

A complete dump the microwave was dirty the shower had a dirty towel in and I was told it was under remodeling would only stay if I only had my last $ 2 dollars

BECAREFUL, there was a shooting at this motel.

I needed a place to stay desperately one night and this was the closest motel that ran all night long. The lady at the front desk made my miserable night much better. She’s hilarious.
They have free wifi, but expect gross rooms. I slept with my clothing on because I was afraid of the sheets. The room was mucky, dusty, quite freaky. The window was left open so people could have easily broken in. The neighbor next door blasted Two And A Half Men all night through paper thin walls. There was hot water in the shower, though. That was… surprising.
If all you need is a place to sleep not in the streets, then come to the Biltmore, but for the price I’d expect cleaner rooms. Your hygiene will be compromised.

STAY AWAY!
I was in desperate need of a place to stay for the night, but was not willing to spend $ 300+ a night. I stayed there this past weekend and when I got there, the service was homey. When I stepped in the room, I thought it was a joke with the filth that was presented at me. The room had a filthy odor with gnats flying all over, the walls were disgusting, the mattress was hard as steel, the bathroom was disturbing. I went down stairs to talk to the manager and she barged right up stairs and started to yell at me saying that there should be no mice, roaches, gnats in this building because she spent good money to the pest control of San Diego… NEXT morning i proved her wrong and killed a couple gnats and gave it to her when I checked out! — I only stayed because there were no other rooms nearby the beach–
I advise anyone to NOT stay here if possible. I notice that there was a pillow on the roof when I drove off… that should of have been my first sign when I drove up. They need to revamp this motel as it is in a very nice neighborhood.

I am posting a letter that I sent twice to the owners of the La Jolla Biltmore after a stay there last May. In person I found them to be nice and helpful, however I have not received a response to my letter so I am sharing it here.
The upshot is that although the location is great and the price is right, the room was not clean, everything in the room was super old, and, most disturbingly, when I used the microwave it made the lights flicker– that was kind of scary. Here’s my letter:
Good afternoon,
My mom and I recently stayed with you (May 6 – 9) and I wanted to pass along some feedback.
We really appreciated how friendly and welcoming you were, Kathy, when we checked in. You let us know what to do nearby, gave us a great map, brought out Gizmo to meet us, that was really nice. We definitely felt welcome and the info you gave us was very helpful.
Your location is great, in fact just about perfect for our needs. We spent our whole trip in La Jolla, so being just a few miles from La Jolla Cove, the Contemporary Art Museum, and shopping was really good for us. And, of course, your price can’t be beat, it was a good value.
I also want to let you know about a couple of things that could have been better. Although the room was clean overall, I wonder if it hadn’t been used in a while, because there was a pretty good-​sized spider web in our bathroom window, and a couple of long hairs on my bed. Neither was something that would send us screaming from the room but I wanted to let you know. Also, the fridge in our room (I think it was 14) didn’t work well enough to keep our food cold, and on our last day when I tried to use the microwave it made the lights blink and it kind of whirred up and down until I turned it off. Again, nothing that ruined our trip but inconvenient.
I would definitely consider staying with you again, and I believe that really want your guests to be comfortable, which is why I’m sending my feedback.

Nice location of course compared to downtown San Diego and few blocks to the beach if you have a dog to walk. Probably the ugliest building in the area and rooms are kind of like that apt you rented in college that an 80 year old man used to live in before you and left his furniture. Room was $ 75 a night which isn’t cheap but prefer this old place way more than motel 6. Restaurants and albertsons within walking distance. Cathy at the front desk is very nice. Rooms have wifi and cable tv with hbo. You need a code for the free wifi though and after 2 calls to a message machine, I never got a call back. Between the loud motorcycles going by, cars going over the speed bump out in front and even though I wore ear plugs, the shower downstairs in the morning sounded like it was in the same room since there is no wall insulation. Only if you don’t care about the above things stay here just for the location. Check out other motels nearby which are much nicer.

The word Biltmore conjures up an upscale exclusive luxury hotel. Now think the very opposite and that’s what you get with the La Jolla Biltmore. The motel is a two story eye sore on busy La Jolla Blvd. «Hear the sounds of the surf from your room?» I don’t think so. Not over the rumbling of traffic on busy La Jolla Blvd. When I was there, I awoke the sound of an electric wood saw at 10:30 PM. apparently, they were remodeling or something. Would explain the trash and mattress in front of the driveway. People staying there are a little odd, but what do you expect at such cheap weekly rates? Uncovered parking, guests with motorcycles. If you can afford it, stay elsewhere… like a Super 8.
Update: Just read about the SECOND shooting at the location in the last four months. If that doesn’t tell you the kind of clientelle this place attracts, not sure what will.

There are at least five great reasons to stay here when visiting San Diego:
1) SUPER friendly and accommodating management. The new managers are are supremely awesome! I felt like these people really cared about my comfort during my stay. I want to come back just to visit them!
2) Refrigerators in every room. For me, this is a must. It should be the law that all motel rooms have at least a mini-​fridge, right?! What’s great about La Jolla Biltmore is that you don’t have to request a room with one! Some of the rooms even have full kitchens, which is great when you’re traveling and get sick of eating out all the time. I’ll have to remember that for next time…
3) Free wi-​fi! Yet another standard fulfilled by LJB. Everyone needs that when they’re staying out of town.
4) Great location. So close to the ocean that you can taste it!
5) They’re pet-​friendly! That gets major bonus points from me.
Overall, this is a great place that I would recommend to anyone who wants a clean, friendly, and convenient place to stay in San Diego. I’ll definitely be back!

The La Jolla Biltmore Motel, in La Jolla California is located near the beach and many other attractions in the San Diego area. It is clean and comfortable, with a superb staff, ready to help with anything asked of them. They have a friendly style that won’t be found at large chain motels.

3-​stars for optimism. This is a basic motel, but a very well situated one, within a couple blocks of the beach in Bird Rock. Not really in La Jolla, and absurdly unlike the Biltmore that I’ve been to (Santa Barbara, go for the INSANE sunday brunch), but it is a motel, and it is near the beach. The ice machine probably works and isn’t too loud for sleeping.
