Jade did a great job with my violin bow rehair. His shop is in a fabulous area known for upscale tastes, yet he remains very personable in relating to customers from diverse skill levels. He is a wealth of knowledge on various violin topics and is committed to building up the next generation of classical musicians. Glad to have met this great resource!

I have been with Jade for a few years now. My current and previous violas were from him as well as bows. He’s shop is small but he still has a good collection of instruments and bows to try, he also has connections where he might be able to get things that’s not in his shop for you such as instruments, cases, etc. Jade’s bow rehair is excellent, I also get my done there when I’m home in SD. Jade’s flexible and willing to find a solution to help your needs, all you have to do is ask. I’ll be going back hopefully for many more years.

Jade has helped us find instruments for each of our kids. He is committed to finding the right solution and we are very happy with the results. He’s also responsive and fun to work with.

This is a great violin Viola and Cello shop. Jade knows his instruments. I loved visiting the shop. He didn’t waste my time repairing a violin that wasn’t worth it. He had a customer come in with a good violin and he told her what she needed. Nice cellos too. Great shop. I repair guitars and violin is a completely different animal. It’s nice to have such a great shop close by.

I needed to rent a violin for my daughter. Jade J. Schultz Violins was recommended by the our violin teacher and I can see why. His service and professionalism are terrific and he texts! I’m so appreciative of a business who works with the customers preferred method of communication. His prices are fair and he rents quality violins. He even provided some helpful tips for my daughter as she learns to play violin. Highly recommended.

What a wonderful experience. NOt only does this guy know what he is doing he goes out of his way to make sure you have all you need and the price fits your wallet. He is located in a nice little nook between Hershel and Gerard. Hes not the type who dabbles in a lot of different things. He does what he loves and it shows. He has wonderful rental programs as well as an equity program for those who have little ones that will grow into full size violins soon. Knowing that the price of a great instrument can be a bit steep it’s good to know that he will work with us to make sure that, if our little one wants to continue learning how to play, that it will be financially possible to make that dream come true. I will DEFINITELY be back!!!

Jade repaired my son’s cello and built a new bridge. It sounds beautiful and my son loves the new bridge work. Great experience!

Besides the extremely high quality of the work that was done on my instrument, the experience was one of the more pleasant ones I have received at a music shop. I was given a high quality violin and bow to use while mine were at his shop. Now my violin sounds vastly improved and has become much easier to play. I fully intend on going to Jade whenever I need work done on my violin or bow.

It was first time to meet with Jade for me. He is professional and very kind man. Although I brought my violin for fixing my chin rest, he also fixed the scar on my violin. I will visit him soon to fix my finger board, I’m excited!

Jade is a top notch luthier with a pleasant, mellow attitude. He closed up open seams on my cello AND put a new ENDPIN in, and I got it back a day later. WOW! Prices are very reasonable & the work is great!

I recently relocated to La Jolla and was looking for a good violin shop in the San Diego Area. I am very happy to have found Jade J. In dealing with him to purchase a high-​end instrument, he has been very pleasant and comfortable to work with. No sales pitch, no pressure tactics. He even arranged for a professional player to try the instruments in an auditorium for me! I would definitely go to him for my violin needs, from bow rehairs to expensive purchases.

We had a long list of music stores in the area, and none could find us a ¾ cello. Jade, on the other hand went to the trouble to purchase a cello for us to rent. He went over and above what I expected, and he offered us a military discount. We used to drive over to La Jolla from the Mission Valley area for his great business!

So professional, passionate about his craft, knowledgable about the instruments, and most of all, so reasonable for exquisite work. If I had a Strad, this is where I would take it!

I hadn’t picked up a viola in more than 15 years, so I was looking for a rental instrument to get me back in the music scene. Some friends of mine in the SD Symphony referred me to Jade. I ended up visiting Jade’s back cottage just off of Herschel Avenue and getting a rental viola there (which happened to be brand new and had a decent sound considering the price). I took a refresher lesson with Rachel (who works there) and she was great, too. Jade’s rental fee was very reasonable compared to other shops, but in the end I opted for another option with Jade –paying just a little more each month so that I could earn credit towards the future purchase of an instrument. Jade is very responsive by email or phone, their prices are fair, and everyone there is very professional. He also puts out a newsletter which features the latest chamber group/​orchestral happenings in the community which is cool!

Nothing but a great experience. Brought my late grandfather’s hundred year old fiddle to be repaired/​brought back to playing condition. The workshop is great. Humble, dimly lit, covered with violins, tools and the like.
Jade gave me an estimate/​recommendation based on what he would do if he was going to sell it, and then discussed the options/​costs.
My goal was for it to be strong and playable, but not be cleaned/​refinished at all. That’s exactly what I got. Job really well done. He walked me through everything when I went to pick it back up, also. You can tell he’s passionate about his work.
Not to mention he stayed in touch via email/​phone while he was working on it, which was awesome (I was super indecisive between a flat or rounded bridge so i kept hassling him).

You feel comfortable and at home the minute you walk into his shop, but don’t let the «laid back» atmosphere fool you, he knows quality — and delivers it. Jade isn’t satisfied with his work until it’s perfect.
