Established in 2011.

This ophthalmology practice was formerly known as Murphy Eye Center. In fall 2011 Doctor Murphy retired and after 3 years of search for the right candidate, he chose to sell his practice to Dr. Shervin Alborzian.

Business Owner

Shervin Alborzian, M.D. is an American Board of Ophthalmology Certified Surgeon and Medical Doctor.

Dr. Alborzian grew up in La Jolla, CA. He received his bachelor degree in Neuroscience from UCLA and received his Medical Degree from Boston University School of Medicine. He completed his internship at MetroWest Framingham Hospital, a Harvard Medical School affiliated program, after which he returned to Boston University to complete his ophthalmology surgical training.

Dr. Alborzian worked for Kaiser Permanente in Northern California and in Washington, D.C. prior to deciding that the best care is provided through private practice. He specializes in comprehensive ophthalmology and is a topical anesthesia cataract surgeon. He is laser certified and experienced in various ophthalmic lasers.

Dr. Alborzian was amazing. I went in to his office after a referral from my optometrist who saw something unusual in a scan of my optic nerve. I was super nervous that I was going to get bad news but Dr A immediately put me at ease. He could not have been nicer or more professional. I appreciated that he took time to answer my questions and even wrote down some symptoms to look out for. I would definitely recommend the Eye Center of La Jolla for anyone who needs to see an ophthalmologist.

Dr. Alborzian is the best eye doctor in San Diego hands down. I live in Carlsbad and make the drive to see him at least once a year. He is never hesitant to take the time to fully explain his exam and give me all the information I need to move forward in taking care of my eyes. I would highly recommend his service.

Saw Dr. Alborzian for a chalazion removal, which is a minor surgical procedure. I had one a few years ago with another doctor and my eye was bruised and in pain for 3 days. It was a difficult recovery. I am not sure what was done different this go around, but Dr. Alborzian had me in and out in 40 minutes, 3 hours later, no pain and no bruising. Great experience and super reasonable cost.

Today I took my 91 yr old mother from out of state over to see Dr. Alborzian regarding her macular degeneration. As he studied her situation and eyes I cannot say enough of his kindness, technique an brilliance as to what was needed in her situation. He arranged for Dr. Daly, a retina specialist to see her immediately and after his visit, already is seeing better tonight! We have a cataract surgery scheduled for Monday.
Its pretty hard to impress me, I have been around doctors and hospitals a great deal in my life. This Dr. is great at what he does and a blessing to my family.

Dr alborzian is so fantastic! A true gem. Honest, friendly, and capable. He screens both me and my husband — and I love how he really leaves no stone unturned. My husband has a family history of glaucoma — and we really feel like the doctor is on top of it.
I just wish he was a primary doctor! Oh, his scheduling system sends many many reminders but we easily overlook that. Nice staff too.

Dr Alborzian is very definitely the best! I went to him for a second opinion, because my vision was going south all of a sudden. Shortly before my visit to Dr Alborzian, my optometrist had told me my eyes were fine, but if I wanted, he could give me glasses to make some improvement. Well, Dr Alborzian diagnosed my macular degeneration immediately, and got me with an ocular specialist who is treating me to stop the progression of the degeneration, which can lead to blindness. I have been back to Dr Alborzian for follow up, and he has spent considerable time checking my eyesight, explaining the options for my condition, and just plain being supportive and attentive to my eye problem. A true doctor from the old school (he is really pretty young), who will go the extra mile with the patient to insure that you have the best eyesight that the medical profession can supply. If you’re looking for an Ophthalmologist, go to Dr Alborzian. You will be with the best!

My wife and I both had laser eye surgery here. She had Lasik done long before my recent PRK surgery. We were very pleased with his thoroughness, professionalism, and overall attitude of treating the patient as a person. Having been to other eye surgery consultations, Dr. Alborzian actually cares about his patients. Here, he actually is the one who determines if you are a candidate. He discusses with you all the possible outcomes, procedures, pros and cons. His information and open demeanor lets you feel comfortable in asking questions so that ultimately you can make the best decision for yourself.
OTHER places heard you through the exam process to determine if you are a candidate, using people other than the surgeon who will ultimately do the procedure. You are then hearded straight to their finance department where you are pressured to make an appointment for surgery. In my case, this could have been a big mistake.
I went to my first appointment having not worn my glasses for only two weeks. Hoping to get the procedure done sooner rather than later, we planned our testing over the next two weeks. The day before I was to have surgery, Dr. Alborzian called with concerns regarding the final testing. Seems my eyes hadn’t quite settled down from years of toric contact lense use. He strongly recommended postponing for a couple more weeks in order to let my eyes settle. I am not sure that kind of attention to detail and my individual well being would have been given to me if I went elsewhere. And that kind of attention does not go away once the surgery was done. For the first week, he was in contact with me daily to ensure pain was manageable and things were moving long. My check ups, since, have been thorough and easy to schedule. The best part, I went from wearing a –7 power contact lense to seeing 20 – 15!!!
Dr Alborzian is a life changer. A fact he does not take on lightly. It was an awesome experience and I could not recommend anyone else more than him and the Eye Center of La Jolla.

Me and my wife recently had LASIK surgery with Dr. Alborzian, and we’ve been very pleased with the results. The surgery was fairly quick and easy, and Dr. Alborzian was great at explaining the procedure and guiding us through it. He made sure we were comfortable, was very thorough with the pre-​operation checkup, and addressed all of our concerns. It’s really amazing how easy it is to achieve such great vision with such a simple procedure. We’ve had a few follow-​up appointments, where he made sure that everything is going well, and our recovery has been great with no major problems. I would definitely recommend him.

I had LASIK surgery about 6 weeks ago and it feels amazing not to need contact lenses or glasses anymore. The doctor explained the procedure before the surgery and guided me throughout it, which made what I thought would be a scary procedure quite comfortable and quick. The day after the surgery I went to my follow-​up appointment and I had 20⁄20 vision! The doctor was concerned about my eyes being dry and recommended drops/​ointment, and they have significantly improved since. Overall, this has been a great experience; Dr. Alborzian and his staff have been excellent at easing the process of getting perfect vision!

Can I give him 10 stars?
I just had my LASIK procedure done yesterday and I just came home from my follow up appointment. Today was the first time in my life I drove without my glasses or contact lens. It felt amazing.
Thanks to Dr. Alborzian to his dedication to his excellence in patient care, my procedure went very well. I lost count of how many times he examined my eyes, thoroughly, before my procedure, and that was reassuring. I know I was in good hands.
As a registered nurse myself I have to say, when it comes to choosing the right doctor, it is very important that you choose one who CARES. (Trust me, I have seen many many doctors who have years of experience but they do not care about their patients) Dr. Alborzian called me in person the day before the procedure for any last minute burning questions and he called me at the end of his day after my procedure was done (at 530PM!!!). You want to know how often I see doctors do that for their hospitalized patients? Almost never.
I can’t thank Dr. Alborzian enough for all he did. For those of you considering any kind of eye procedure, Lasik, canaloplasty, glaucoma surgery, etc., he’s the person you should go to!

I had a PRK procedure done in December. Dr. Alborzian recommended this due to my corneas being as thin as they are. I appreciated that he was not a risk taker when it came to my eyes, and he genuinely cared enough that he gave me his personal number in case I had any problems. The first couple of days were painless until the contacts covering my exposed corneas had to be removed due to the dryness and irritation. The next 2 days after that did come with a bit of pain until everything healed up. He checked up on me everyday even weekends to see if I needed anymore pain meds, etc. I would recommend Dr. Alborzian to anyone, he really for a the extra mile to make sure you are taken care of. 2 months later and I’m seeing great and have no complaints.
