I’ve been going to this location for the past several years when a smog test is needed. I have always felt welcome and the job is done quickly and efficiently. The man who has always performed the check/​test is very pleasant and polite. He obviously takes a lot of pride in his work and the business. He has wonderful manners (hard to find sometimes) and opens the car door for me every time too.
On a few occassions I’ve asked him questions and he is knowledgeable and helpful. Soft spoken and easy to talk to.
There are a few chairs and magazines for you while you wait, but you won’t need them long, you’ll be out in no time.
I always dread having to get a smog check, but then once I get to Smog Masters I remember how «hometown» and comfortable this place is, I feel proud of them for being a great service in La Habra!

It was a little past 2pm on a Saturday. Totally forgot that I needed a smog test for my car registration. So I searched on Unilocal and called around. Most places were closed by 2pm or too expensive. This was the cheapest place I could find. It’s a small little place with one person working. The worker was real polite and it didn’t take very long. Couldn’t give the last star because the waiting area wasn’t that great, as you can see in the photos. But, all in all, good place to go for a smog test for sure!

I had a smog check done on my truck today. I was met when I drove up by an employees who was very professional. There were three people before me so I asked how long it would be. He told me to give him 30 minutes for which I agreed. 20 minutes later, my truck was taken into the shop and about 10 minutes later, my truck was done. I had a discount coupon I obtained off the Internet mentioned by others who wrote reviews on this site. The coupon was honored without any problem at all. The customer service here was excellent and I will continue to go here for future smog checks.

Needed to get my wife’s car smogged so I checked for local places on Unilocal saw this place and the Unilocal coupon and after reading the reviews decided this place was the best bet. Some reviews said the Unilocal discount worked some didn’t so I went in asked how much it would bethey said they had a special right now and it was gonna be close to $ 50 so I then asked about the Unilocal discount. then they went according to the inside price not the special posted outside and said the special was going to save me more $. I agreed to the price and explained that I actually new that’s how they were going to react according to reviews that i read before coming and that they should put a disclaimer either on Unilocal or on The sign outside, which isn’t a bad price without combining a Unilocal coupon. Well they we’re happy to get the feedback and told me that they are trying to practice a more straightforward pricing plan and they are under new ownership. All said and done I got to combine the Unilocal coupon with the special price and did get out of there under $ 40
Hank was the technician and I believe manager because he also took care of my final price. And definitely handled The situation with a great deal of professionalism and courtesy to the customer. I was happy and will be back for my other vehicles for sure

Summary: The service was great, but the pricing and attitude not so much. I won’t use this business again.
In the past, I had used Quick Smog, so I checked out their site for a coupon. They had a coupon for $ 15 off, but no pricing was listed on their site. (So it’s $ 15 off what?)
So I came to Unilocal.
Express Smog Checks had 5 stars with 28 reviews, and everyone raved about Greg. Many folks said to mention Unilocal for a discount. A couple of reviews said they got in and out for under $ 40. That sounded good. However, the discount was not listed in the business info on the Unilocal page, and I couldn’t find a website for this business to verify it.
Smog Masters had 4 ½ stars with 10 reviews. Reviews mentioned a Unilocal discount, but — even better — the $ 10 Unilocal discount was listed in the business info on their Unilocal page. Again, some reviewers said they got in and out for $ 40. Great!
I wanted to confirm this, so I checked their website. They had a pricing page on their website, which quoted a price for cars as being $ 39.75 for the smog check plus $ 8.25 for the certificate for a total of $ 48.00. Nowhere on this page does it state that this is a special or discount price.
Also, the testimonials page on the Smog Masters website quotes a Unilocal review saying: «I paid $ 40.00 and I was out the door with my Unilocal discount.»
So — silly me — I thought with the advertised $ 10 Unilocal discount my smogcheck at Smog Masters was going to cost $ 38.
The place was quiet with no other customers when I arrived. A technician was waiting by an open bay as I drove up. I gave him the key and he pulled the car into the bay.
I gave him the paperwork from DMV and he entered the info into their cash register terminal. I mentioned the Unilocal discount. He printed out an estimate for me to sign. The estimate listed a smog inspection for $ 39.75 and a certificate for $ 8.25, but no discount. I pointed this out to the tech, but he did not discuss it. I assumed the discount would be given on the final invoice and I didn’t push it.
I stood and chatted with the tech while he ran the tests. He was quick and efficient and completed the tests within 15 minutes. That part of the service was definitely 5 stars, and I was feeling pretty good.
We then headed back to the register terminal. To my surprise, he handed me a bill for $ 48. What, no Unilocal discount?
He pointed to a pricing listing written on a whiteboard on the wall that showed different prices from what they had on their website. I responded by citing to the website. He went in the back office and returned with a larger, older guy with the name «Brian» printed on his shirt.
Brian gave me the same argument — the prices on the wall were what they were charging, and the $ 10 discount came off those prices. I again referred to the pricing on the website. I suggested that he check the website so he could see for himself, and even offered to pull it up on my phone. Eventually, he opened a browser on the terminal and pulled up the pricing page.
At this point, Brian took the position that the website pricing was reflecting a discount or special pricing, and that the total charge with the discount was $ 48. I said I wasn’t going to argue about it with him there and we could discuss it on Unilocal.He looked annoyed by that suggestion and said «What good does that do?» — but he took my $ 48.
I don’t like to write negative reviews. I prefer to go out in the world and find good things and good times and come back here to share the good news. Check my other reviews. I certainly don’t enjoy wasting two hours of my day today complaining about a local business.
On the other hand, to me the pricing scheme at Smog Masters was deceptive, and the «good» that comes from talking about it here at Unilocal is to help others avoid bad experiences. I would not have gone there if I thought I was going to be paying $ 48, and I would have gone to Greg’s Express Smog Checks instead.
Finally, on a personal note, I also experienced Brian’s behavior as being confrontational and somewhat belligerent. He challenged whether I had mentioned the Unilocal discount when I checked in and suggested I should have brought a printout. He also told me that «you can’t even keep your own story straight» when I tried to point out the prices listed on his website and the coupon in his Unilocal listing, and he kept denying that there were any prices listed on his Unilocal page (which I had never claimed). He even denied that any reviews quoted a $ 40 out-​the-​door price, despite that several reviews here do quote that figure and even having a review reprinted on his own website that quotes that figure.
It doesn’t seem to me that I’m the one that has a problem keeping his story straight. I can post screengrabs of all the webpages discussed above if they become relevant to the discussion.
5 stars to the friendly tech and his good work on the smog check.

I was looking for a place to smog my truck. I recently discovered Unilocal,I have to say I’m hooked with this app. It’s cool because now I don’t have to wonder much about the quality of service the reviews will tell me. Anyway at smog masters I was greeted promptly by I believe the owner, he gave me a good price and great costumer service. I recommend this place.

The owner was very nice. Made it very very easy to go and I’m looking forward going back for my next service check up. They are very friendly and have a wealth of knowledge. The $ 10 off deal for saying that you saw this on Unilocal really works… Its just a really great place. Very clean, friendly and it was so easy to do. Virtually painless.

For a smog test center. This is the place. This is the second time I’ve been here, and nothing but very good service. They may have a few customers waiting at times but really it is about service and quality of work. This is a new busines I think they are doing great. Don’t forget to use the specials they have on Unilocal.I paid $ 40.00 and I was out the door with my Unilocal discount.

Place is a rip off, they dont communicate with customers, very slow. Honestly i can see this place going under like all the other crappy business owners. Beware of this place.

I am so happy that I went to Smog Masters, I had gone to a place called purrfect auto services before here just cause they had a special going but once I got there they were rude and unprofessional so i left. So I google smog masters and arrived there before they closed and they were so nice professional and helpful. Explained everything to me and there location was very tidy! There under new ownership so go there prices are reasonable. What I loved the most was how they explained everything and they went out of there way to help not like that other place! Thank you again!

I am so glad I came to Smog Masters to get my smog test done. They were so quick, friendly and helpful! Instead of a long drawn-​out process in a dingy garage, Smog Masters took care of me in less than 30 minutes, and the shop is so clean and welcoming. There’s couches and magazines for while you wait, they even offered me cold bottled water. The service was truly amazing and my experience was incredibly pleasant. And they’re highly professional, they even sent my certificate in to the state dept electronically so it’s taken care of right away.
Smog Masters is definitely the best choice for getting your smog test done.
