History

Established in 1982.

In business since 1982. Prior to getting my license, I was a troubleshooter, the guy that finds out why things aren’t working. First major job as a contractor was Sonny Bonos first restaurant. I worked for years with high end decorators and architects on celebrity and VIP homes.

We still do on occasion, but have sort of settled into a niche of bringing older homes (with typically old and unsafe wiring) from 1880 homes on up.

(Lots of 1929’s era homes in the general LA area sorely needing to be made safe!)

I find this work the most rewarding since we are making folks homes safe for their families. Also enjoy the aesthetic side of art lighting and landscape lighting, where we are essentially «painting with light».

I take pride in and continue to improve our professionalism and good works.

We also are qualified and do some commercial electrical, but specialize in the above residential type work.

Born in northern california (my grandmother was born in LA). Father was in the air force so I literally grew up all over the world. Graduated from Charles M Russell High School in Great Falls Montana, professionally I started out as an electrical helper in 1974 and been in it ever since.

Rick is the guy to call for tricky electrical problems. I had three guys out to fix my outdoor lighting that I inherited from the previous home owner who thought he was Thomas Edison. None solved my problem despite charging hundreds of dollars. Rick figured it out and got it all working. He’s the best.

Rick is amazing!
A few months ago he came over for a small job with a mysterious light switch. I wanted it to actually do something. We have an old house and so I didn’t want to risk breaking something. He enlightened us that our light switch was probably for some sconces that were plastered over. We we’re thrilled because this room needed more light. He dug them out and helped us install some beautiful sconses.
THEN, he just came over for a quick consultation. On a Saturday, he fit us in.
He doesn’t BS you. He doesn’t make you spend money you don’t have to. He cares. He is refreshing.

I wish I could give Zero or Negative stars. Rick did a lot of electrical work on our house after we purchased it 7 years ago and we recently had to have a few of the items replaced because of wear or cosmetic changes. Both of the new electricians that we used physically showed us the sloppy work that Rick did when we hired him. It ranged from missing screws in ceiling fans (very scary and dangerous) to an upgrade that he did on a sub-​panel that was made by GE and he used another manufacturer which they both said is a no-​no because if say we had a fire and it was due to GE’s panel, GE would say «not our fault because you used XYZ manufacturer’s parts when you did the upgrade.» Today we just found out that he took a shortcut on work he did on a panel and the city inspector said we’d have to get it fixed. It’s a $ 100 fix and we’re just baffled at why Rick wouldn’t have done the work the proper way the first time-​we would have gladly paid the extra $$$. I too would have given Rick 4 stars back when he did work for us (not 5 because scheduling was always a nightmare) but I didn’t know then what I know now. Electrical is nothing to play around with-​check Rick’s work or have someone knowledgeable check it or you’ll have some dangerous and costly surprises like we did. He comes across as a nice guy but definitely isn’t ethical or honorable.

Soon after I moved into my new house a breaker connected to an AC unit tripped and wouldn’t reset. I called Rick Jackson Electrical just in case it was just the fault of the breaker, which I assumed would be way cheaper than if it was the AC. In the end it was the AC, BUT in the process of checking things out Rick discovered some serious issues with loose connections in the panel, which were causing serious heat, like melting plastic pieces of the panel type heat.
He came back the next day with new parts and redid the connections for a reasonable price and a lot of speed, and I am secure in the knowledge that my risk of electrical fire has been greatly reduced. I would recommend him to anyone in the area.

I needed my entire board replaced as it had fried on me. It came at an unfortunate time as it was well above 90 degrees late on a friday so I was about to be without air conditioning and power for the weekend. My board was older so it was not an easy to find replacement. He worked late and made sure to get my power back on that day. I also think he charged a fair price. I would call him again if I had electrical issues again in the future.

Called rick… Told him about my small electrical issue… Said he would try to stop by on his way home that afternoon… He must live in Siberia because that was 5 days ago… Hey, I know my job was small, but at the very least, call and say you aren’t coming on That afternoon… Or at all. see, I Also need 15 recessed lights installed… So yeah, this little job would have turned into a big job. Bottom line: don’t blow off potential customers, especially those who Unilocal!
PS: went with another electrician. He was glad to pocket the $$$

Working with Rick was great. I had a strange and frustrating wiring issue that made absolutely no sense but Rick and Brandon were able to chase down the cause and correct it for me. They were on time to my house and also very fair and honest. When the job was done they also put everything back and vacuumed up the mess. Overall great experience A+ would recommend.

Rick Jackson came to my home yesterday and chased down a problem that has been plaguing me for YEARS! It required patience and critical thinking to track it down and HE DIDI IT! Other electricians have come/​gone saying that when the intermittent problem becomes permanent, then they’ll be able to help me. But not Rick! He systematically went through all the aspects of the issue until, lo and behold, he pulled a shorted wire out of the wall. AMAZING. His price was most reasonable and his work impeccable. Call Rick, he can be trusted. When he left yesterday he said, «Now you are one of my customers and I’ve got your electrical problems covered.» As a single, female homeowner, that was music to my ears.

I found Rick through Unilocal.We needed to install a second SCE meter to feed our electric car charger. I really liked Rick’s estimate. Even though the Los Angeles County and SCE did not see eye to eye on the proper method of second meter installation, Rick managed to get them to agree. He and his crew came out on the day he promised and did a great job. They made really good suggestions to keep the esthetics of the house even though the ground wire needed to be ran to the front of the house. He kept in constant communication with me and I was always up-​to-​date with everything that was going on.
I definitely plan to use Rick for other jobs. I was extremely happy with his work, quote, and overall approach to customer service.

For ONCE Unilocal didn’t let me down for a service person. I’ve gone through many bad plumbers and electricians from Unilocal over the years. But Rick is the most professional service person (and knowledgeable electrician) I’ve ever encountered over the years, and I’ve used many contractors, handymen, plumbers and electricians. I had complete confidence in his knowledge and skills and he always answered my calls, which is not always the case with others. Plus, if possible, he even offered advice over the phone or text, which is also very generous. He even spent a lot of time on the phone and in person giving free advice and education before he bid the job, and didn’t charge me a dime.
I’ve learned my lesson, for specialized systems like electricity, to always use a licensed person in the specialized area. And I’ve learned to not always go with the least expensive, cause you get what you pay for. And sometimes the handymen want to charge more than the licensed electrician to do the work. We used Rick once for a large job and a second time for a smaller job. And talked several times on the phone. I can’t say enough good things about him as an electrician and a professional.

Thank you Unilocalers! Another excellent service I found on Unilocal.Rick repaired my electrical panel and installed three plugs. He and his crew were quick and clean. They arrived on time and completed the tasks quickly.

Outstanding gentlmen with incredible know how, Rick is a great person to know when the lights go out unexpectedly
We had some problems with our new home where certain electrical outlets were not working. I found Rick on Unilocal,saw the reviews and gave him a shot.
He was at my house in 30 minutes, walked through our entire place, and problem solved all our electrical issues. He even gave us a small tutorial on how to change and fix small things that could be a hassle.
His prices are about right and he is very kind. He was able to fix our fuse box and tell us how to keep to working if there is a problem. PLUS I learned alot from this craftsman in those 30 minutes.
Great guy. Great attitude. Outstanding service.
