Prep Academy La Crescenta

Beware — this place is filthy. The walls are filthy and it smells like stale air and dirt in the rooms. I doubt anyone has ever cleaned this place. There are streaks of dirt at least a foot wide on all the walls. I was interested in being a teacher here and instead of interviewing me, they asked that I actually teach. Not just long enough for them to see how I did (I have 20 years experience as a tutor/​teacher) but for a few days. They never took any information from me, never did a background check. I never filled out tax documents. As of now, I’m trying to figure out how to get paid for the two days I was there. The kids were great, but I feel sorry for them. No fresh air, dirty rooms, dirty walls, and no paper towels in the bathroom. Also, the teachers are mean, mostly to other teachers. This place should be scrubbed with bleach. I can’t imagine how many germs are floating around. Stay away.

Not a good place for fostering a love of learning.
I worked there for a brief period and was told that kids weekly school homework had to be completed by 4:30 on Monday. Students would break down in tears on a regular basis and tell me it was too much work when faced with three hours of homework a night in primary school. Tutors («teachers») are instructed not to speak to parents — probably because we might actually tell them how horrible this whole experience is for their children. The other reason might be that the parents might actually realize that staff turnover is extremely high.
