I loved this place!!! But today I called the listed number and was disconnected. I drove by but it didn’t look open or the same. I really hope I made a mistake because this place was the best. The people were super nice and really helpful

I usually check Angie’s List for recommended service providers, but they were no help this time… my next choice was Unilocal and calling around to smog check places close to home. They were not the cheapest, but still a very fair price and I decided to come here because he was the friendliest over the phone. I’m glad I decided on this place!
It was the first time my car had to be smog checked so I was not sure about the process. I drove up and was taken care of right away, no appointment necessary, which was great because I had two young (and restless) kids in the car. Emil was the gentleman who helped me, he said it would be done in under 10 minutes and if it wanted I could leave the kids in the car. I did, watched a few videos with them to keep them busy… and it was done! Emil was super friendly and helpful, I will be coming here for my next smog check and I would definitely recommend them to my friends and family!

I just had the easiest and fastest smog check ever. Emil got me in and out in 15 minutes or less (probably closer to 10), including paperwork. He was extremely friendly and professional, and has a great waiting area. I’ll be returning here for my next smog check without a doubt.

Is it possible to actually look forward to taking your car in for service? I would gladly puncture my tires and pour sugar In my gas tank to have Emil work on my car. He was friendly, accommodating and professional. I will happily recommend his shop to everyone with ears!

Just had my smog check done at Foothill Smog Service. They were wonderful. I was in and out in 15 minutes. Emil was friendly and efficient. The atmosphere of the shop was very comfortable while I waited. It was also the least amount I have paid for a smog in years! Highly recommend!

Went here few months ago — Late review
Live about 2 miles away from the place. Called around noon before leaving the house and was told there was no wait and also received easy driving directions to the shop.
When I arrived, like anticipated, there was absolutely no wait. Emil was standing out in front and was very welcoming and nice. After about a 3 – 5 minute checking in process, I was told it would be around a 20 minute wait. There’s a very comfortable lounge/​wait area.
I paid $ 40 + $ 10 certificate = $ 50 in total for the easiest, smoothest smog check process ever! I would totally recommend this place.
I think they do car repairs too, I would come here if my car ever needed repair.

Emil is wonderful. Great rapport, excellent customer service, knowledgeable and fast, Emil had my records from 2 years ago at the tip of his fingers. My only complaint is Emil had me out and on my way so fast I didn’t get to finish reading the article on Bruce Jenner transforming into a woman!

Thanks to the trusty Unilocal app, I found 5-​star rated (30 reviews at the time) Foothill Smog Services as the small local business that would handle the two vehicles my parents needed to be smogged in order to renewal their register. One car in particular needed be be inspected by a STAR certified smog center which they were, so I decided to test-​drive them first before before I brought the other car. Needless to say, the ratings and reviews they had were completely spot on!:
STAR Certified Smog Check ($ 50.00) — These were the three (3) known reasons why this more rigorous inspection was necessary:
1. Gross polluters (vehicles which have failed a previous smog inspection with very high emission readings)
2. High Emitter Profile vehicles. These are vehicle types designated by the Bureau of Automotive Repair as having high chances of failing the smog inspection.
3. A random sample of all vehicles registered in California and being driven on public roadways.
Standard Smog Check ($ 45.00) — Usually requred every two years, this was the most frequent and simplest of inspections.
Service — Each time, we had no reservations and simply drove up and stated what we needed. Emil, the one-​person shop owner happily greeted us (the second time he remembered my Dad and I), took our keys, directed us to the waiting room, and in less than 15 minutes (10 minutes for the non-​STAR smog check), both cars passed with flying colors, we quickly paid and off we went good for another two years. Emil mentioned that the STAR-​inspected truck may need some service prior to its next inspection based on the test results which I thought was very nice of him. All test records were electronically submitted to the DMV, so we just needed to pay the registration fee on our end. Easy peasy.
Parking (free) — Although there was street parking available along the main drag of Foothill Blvd. as well as the surrounding side streets (no on-​site parking), his type of business didn’t exactly require it since you drove your car up to the garage and had it back in a short amount of time. So unless he was totally busy and backed-​up, you needn’t worried about parking.
Atmosphere, décor, ambience — Tucked inward and easy-​to-​miss from the street, a small grudgy two-​entrance garage smog shop
that was shared with an auto mechanic named George, there was a casual rustic waiting room with two cushioned love seats, a coffee table with some reading magazines, a fish tank
and a drum kit
. There were random items hung on the cinder block walls with two exposed work desks out in the open. Yeah, definitely decorated by a man! Plenty of natural lighting came through the large front window while electric lighting came from the ceiling. There were no TVs or background music.
Attire — Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-​shirt, boardshorts, and flip-​flops.
Overall, I tried to support small local businesses whenever I could and Foothill Smog Services was a perfect example of how well Unilocal helped (and of course, in some cases hurt) me in this search. Sure, you might’ve found cheaper prices elsewhere, but at the end of the day, Emil and his shop provded us all that we needed, and I planned to tell others about him… and his excellent customer service. I found exceptionally good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (total paid experiences was around $ 95.00; no tip required). Although they accepted credit cards, not mine of choice… AMEX! 4.5 STARS

Saturday morning — the last thing you want to do is a smog check– but i had to get it done– unfortunately their smog station is closed on weekends but they were so amazing they ended up helping me out and doing my smog check–
Really nice people– they were busy– which to me is a good sign and I am very pleased ! Considering buying my tires from them!

It was that time of year. So glad Unilocal existed at times like this. I called and Emil answered at 8am and said to come right in. Smog check took only 20 mins max and was painless. Emil was so honest and kind. I highly recommend coming here. The shop is clean and will definitely return every other year.

The man who greeted me, I believe his name is Emil, was awesome! He could tell that I was a newbie with the whole smog check thing and he welcomed me into joining «the smog check club». Haha.
They have a cute orange fish that greets you while youre waiting. And speaking if waiting, I was quoted for 20 min but it seems it only actually took 10 for the whole shebang to happen.
Will definitely come back here again two years from now.

I literally cringe and fall into DMV depression when I open the registration renewal and see the word «SMOG.» It causes other 4 letter words to come to mind. The not so nice ones. As my truck ages it is unlike a fine wine. No refinement with its age. Just a seemingly unending list of small parts, and some large, that fail because of years on the road.
Kind of a long winded intro to tell about my experience at Foothill smog. Sorry. Upon my first arrival 26 days ago, Emil informed and showed me the issue my red dragon was having. It wasn’t going to pass. My buddy is a mechanic. We went to work. Did all we could but something was still not right. Visited a shop in eagle rock, review to follow, and the kitten was purring.
Back to Emil’s. Cleared the throttle control valve code, which I just payed to fix, and told me to come back. Drive it off. Returned and it passed.
Tally– Emil did initial test, didn’t fail me, reset my truck’s computer after shop work, advised me to drive it off, and then tested the final pass when it was right. My bill = 40 bucks. Won’t take your money. He’s honest.

after Unilocaling for a star certified smog check station, i stumbled upon this little spot with the single review and decided to give it a shot. the driveway to the station is small and easy to miss, but i was able to pull up to it quickly and got to see an attendant almost immediately. Emil, the owner was very accommodating and gave me a price and wait time. the waiting room was comfortable with two large sofas, an aquarium, and a coffee maker.
surprisingly, Emil finished within 15 – 20 minutes and it seemed like the minutes just flew by. i received a copy of the star smog check report as well to send to the DMV. the entire process was very efficient and professional. HIGHLY recommend this place if you’re in need of a star certified smog check in the area!
