Fathom Five Divers

Excellent customer service! We had 2 boat dives planned and the capt. was sick on the first day but Fathom took us to an awesome shore dive and compt us our equipment for the day. Jessie was our dive master for both days. She is very knowledgeable about everything you will see under water and even brings a writing board to write down the names of all the marine life. She is amazing at finding lots of different eels and frog fish and everything in between, a real eye for finding anything. Capt. Charlie was awesome as well! Great sense of humor which made the boat ride that much more fun. I will certainly return to Fathom Five divers upon my return to Kauai.

My husband and I absolutely loved diving with Fathom Five. They’re one of the most organized operations I’ve seen. The crew does everything for you — switches tanks, washes gear at the end… all you do is sit back and dive. We did a 2 tank boat dive with Anthony as dive master and Charlie as the captain and it was excellent. We saw many turtles! We then did the Ni’ihau trip with Anthony and Jessie both as dive masters and Tom as captain and we were again thrilled with our experience. On 2 of the 3 dives we swam with a monk seal for the majority of the dive. We also saw sandbar sharks, an eel, nudibranchs, and swam through sweet rock formations. The highlight at Ni’ihau was the amount of time we spent with the monk seals, and Jessie got amazing pictures of my husband and me underwater with the monk seal in the background on her camera. The journey was made easy by the crew, although the almost 3 hour boat ride back from Ni’ihau to Kauai was not for the faint of heart (tons of waves and spray and seasickness). I can’t say enough about the employees of Fathom Five — they’re great! Also I LOVE that they keep the groups small for all dives. It is a maximum of 6 guests at a time on the boat, so there is more space and more personal attention per person. Anthony goes over the animals that may be seen on the dive and also is big on safety which is great. When we return to Kauai again we will dive with Fathom Five exclusively.

Jessie was the bomb.
This was my first ever intro to diving that I was practically daring myself to do.
During my first 15 minutes in the water, I was convinced that I was wasting everyone’s time by sticking to the surface, where I was most comfortable as a snorkeler. I mean, how do you convince yourself to be comfortable with breathing underwater? With bubbles coming out at your side while anything can pop out at you at any moment? Freaky, right?
I tried reassuring myself by remembering everything Jessie said onshore. And she was hella cool about it in the water and being super patient, reassuring, and making me comfortable with where I was at. While a few other folks got their weights to go deeper, I skimmed the surface. And then, just like she said, something clicked and felt normal about it all.
Ten minutes later, I was a mermaid reaching further down than I’d ever imagined. Readjusting for pressure was super fun and I wanted to see EVERYTHING! …and then it happened. A massively humongous turtle popped out of nowhere and came swimming right for me*. It was frightening. And AWESOME! I was like Ricky Bobby riding in the car with a cheetah.
Water got in my mask, I lost my respirator thingy, and then I just popped it out of my mouth for the heck of it. I was like daring things to happen to me so I could solve them underwater. That’s how badass I was feeling.
During my second dive, I ate a little humble pie when I got air trapped in my thingy and couldn’t stop myself from floating to the surface. Jessie caught me, untrapped the air, and I went happily back to mermaid-​ing. No more turtles came at me but I still felt like a badass swimming around and looking up at the surface that I was so scared to leave before.
Jessie pointed some cool sea stuff out and I feel like that should be significant in this review but for me, her instruction and support meant way much more. She made sure that I was safe and comfortable the entire time and THAT is just as cool (if not more) than many of the kick ass things I saw underwater.
Big props to Jessie for helping me through this thing that I’d never imagined doing… and hooking me up with sour cream & onion chips.
*The turtle didn’t actually come right for me. I swam in his path. And he croaked. Kinda like what I do when people driving in front of me don’t use their blinkers.

I had an amazing time diving with Fathom Five! They came highly recommended from a friend who dove with them on her Honeymoon. I ended up booking a two tank dive at Tunnels. I booked online (which was super easy) and opted to have them provide the gear, so I didn’t have to bring anything. Having just completed my open water certification and with no buddy, I was a bit nervous about my first dives as a certified diver.
But Jeanette, my scuba guide, immediately put my worries at ease. She did a bit of basic skills review with us at the very beginning of the dive and reviewed our dive plan. Jeanette also told us about the wildlife we may encounter, and how she would signal if she saw them. The group was very intimate — there were only two of us signed up for the dive, so we received personal attention.
The dives themselves were amazing. We drove through caverns formed from lava and saw turtles, eels, rays, and many beautiful fish. I had an amazing time — so zen and exactly what I wanted for my first tropical diving experience. Thank you, Jeanette!

Exceptional dive masters — different levels of experience and knowledge, and they offer different strengths as a result. You’d be fortunate to dive with Anthony since he knows the reefs cold. Really appreciated all of the assistance from the front office to arrange different dives, change schedules, etc. They went out of their way to help out. The size of the dives is small so you’re not feeling too congested. I would dive with them again.

This was simply the most perfect dive experience for someone getting their open water certification.
Fathom Five is a first-​rate operation with the heart of a family-​owned business.
I was a little nervous to get my dive certification. My husband is an experienced diver and as soon as he saw Jeanette, he said you are in good hands. And I was. She is part mom, part seasoned diver who still is amazed by the ocean every day. The equipment was much better than I had experienced from other dive shops as well.
I was surrounded by a ton of ocean wildlife on every dive and it seemed like all of the skills just came naturally. She gave us a lot of instruction on the surface, her signals were very clear and that made for great dives that seemed timeless and easy.

4^th time in Kauai, 1^st time diving with Fathom Five. It was spectacular. We did 4 two tank trips and all the DMs, Captains and staff were amazing. Go dive with this company!

Had a great diving experience with Fathom 5. They took us to a couple of spots that people rarely get to dive that had a ton of coral and wildlife. It’s not a big boat, which meant we only had 5 divers and a guide in our group, and was a more personal diving experience. Mike was a great captain, and KC a terrific guide. TIP: Please be aware that the shop is a 15 minute drive from the dock, so give yourself enough time to get there.

My wife and I participated in a 2-​tank twilight and night dive with Fathom Five and we had a fantastic time. Jess was our divemaster and was very professional and made everyone feel very comfortable. We saw loads of sealife: fish galore, green turtles, octopus, lobsters, and even some whales up close and personal. A bit on the pricey side for what you get in my opinion, but I would highly recommend this operation nonetheless.

My husband & I booked 2 boat dives (2 dives each) for when we were in Kauai in the end of September/​beginning for October. I get supper motion sick & ended up over the side of the boat on our 1^st dive. The captain was nice enough to bring me back to land once everyone surfaced. When I called to cancel our dive for the next day, they were understanding & waved their cancellation fee. We later booked a off shore dive, that later got cancelled because of the swell.

Like most, a bucket list trip and my first time in Kauai. Read lots of reviews before choosing this dive shop. Maybe I’ve been fortunate to have had great diving experiences in the past… for me it was average. Was very fortunate to dive at Niihau. Water and marine life was spectacular! Highly recommend for the monk seal alone.
Tip — Unfortunately I didn’t receive via email the dive summary for my log book (or a picture I was promised) so I recommend getting the information before you leave.

These guys are amazing! My sister and I went on the 2-​tank Twilight boat dive with Captain Tom and Lani. It had been a little over 3 years since our last dive and they did an awesome job on the refresher course, helping us keep our sh*t together and just making the entire experience a lot of fun. Both dives were amazing but my mind was especially blown during the night dive when Lani took us into the lava tubes and we casually bumped into 2 very large, very oblivious, very adorable sea turtles. What a trip! I’m pretty much set on coming back to the island very soon and will definitely be booking all my dives with these guys.

My wife and I went on our first Kauai boat dive. I’ve done many shore dives here, but this was our first boat. One of the great things about Fathom Five is that the limit the size of their diving group to 6. On this trip, it was just my wife and I along with another couple. We also had the fortune of having two dive masters with us. The boat was roomy and well maintained. The customer care and attentiveness was amazing. My wife sometimes has trouble equalizing on her way down. One of the dive masters stayed with her on the decent of each dive to help and support her all the way down. Also, I got seasick as the ocean was pretty choppy that day. In-​between dives we headed back to port and being on land help me clear my head fast. We both rented our equipment and it was in great condition.
The dive themselves were amazing! The first was an 80ft drift dive with amazing visibility. The second was 84ft with good visibility, and lots of fish. I will definitely use these folks again on my next visit to Kauai.

I did two days of boat dives, both with Jesse as the dive master and Matthew and Mike for the boat captains. I did a total of four dives, we had excellent visibility and saw all kinds of really interesting fish, turtles, white tipped sharks and eels. We swam through caverns, explored under rocks, and enjoyed some of the best sites in south kauai. The crew was fantastic and were always very helpful.

First time to Kauai so I did plenty of research on the dive company’s here and spoke to a buddy that lives in the island and every road lead to Fathom Five. Initially I had booked a 3 tank boat dive but when that fell apart because of weather and no other 3 dive bookings they flooded me with options so I could still go blow bubbles.
Ended up doing 2 beach dives and 2 boat dives.
Different guides on both days but both were everything you’d expect from a 5 star dive outfit.
KC guided the boat dives, she’s young, energetic and knows her shit. It was great that you dive at your skill, none of this first diver up all up nonsense.
I got my shark fill and my turtle fill.
If I come back to Kauai Fathom Five will be my choice.

If i could give this place 10 out of 5 stars, I would and can easily see why the it is the preferred dive shop of choice from the book «The Ultimate Kauai Guidebook: Kauai Revealed».
I was signed up for a dive the day after I arrived in Kauai and a day after a tropical storm blew north of the Island. The morning of the dive, I received a call and was told the dive site has low visibility and could still go or push my dive to later in the week till it was better. I opted to push the dive out. When I arrived at the dive shop later in the week, they told me again the visibility was not so great still and if I wanted to push it out or cancel because they wanted our party to have a great experience. I was leaving the next day, so opted to go that day and it was still great. I would opt next time to dive from Tunnels for sure as I snorkeled at the location with lots to see.

Scuba Diving with Fathom was the best. Jessie made us feel incredibly well taken care of and safe. The water visibility was great and we saw a huge variety of species. We ended up doing two dives in one morning– couldn’t have asked for a better scuba experience.

We were doing our open water certification dives with fathom five and they were fantastic. KC was our instructor and was great with my two kids and me. Great, effective, communication. We went thru all the required skills and still were able to see some beautiful fish. Good snacks between dives too. KC kept it light and fun and still kept the attention of my 13 yr old. KC helped me with my troublesome equalization too.
All around a really great experience.

Did a 2 tank dive off Tunnels, next to my hotel. The truck was there on-​time, and their instructions for how to get there were spot-​on. The DM Linda was great! She gave us a very informative overview of the site, which was definitely useful since I might have been pretty freaked out to go through those tunnels without warning!
All the people I spoke to on the phone for scheduling and rescheduling were great too! And of course, snacks were delicious while we waited for the DMs to do the hard work of changing our tanks.
