Smokies Inn & Suites

The gaudy sign advertising «Rooms starting at $ 39.99 a night» was an invitation we couldn’t refuse. Coming in off I-​40 at 10 o’clock at night and headed for Great Smoky Nat’l Park the next day, we pulled right into this conveniently located hotel. I remember my boyfriend and I remarking in the parking lot, «Is this place for real? For 40 bucks a night, it doesn’t look half-​bad.» Of course, this was from the outside…
The person at the desk didn’t exude that smiley friendliness we had gotten used to from the people of the National Park Service. Instead, he checked us in with minimal warmth.
The room was icky to say the least. The sofa looked like it had previously existed in some slob’s home for 20 years and that same slob’s pets had run rampant on it (upholstery coming out). The bed was like a cement block and lacked a proper mattress cover! Wait, it gets better…
After settling in, we realized a peculiar red substance splattered on the wall resembling either spaghetti sauce or blood.
After a night in this room, we woke up needing a shower.
For the price, I guess it was okay which is why I marked it a 2-​star. It looked like there was free cereal and coffee in the lobby, too. Just be aware that this is no where near even a Day’s Inn and you might be sleeping in the room next to an axe-​murderer. Cheers.
