My best friend and I stayed here on the first night of our bike adventure from Washington DC to Pittsburgh. It was cool. I don’t think any other word works better than cool. After biking 60 miles from DC to here this hill top hostel was a sad and slow mile long climb up from the towpath. Not cool, but also not really their fault. When we arrived there was a small shelter with a bike lock inside available for our bikes. They did also have a hose for us. Surprisingly, there was only one other bike besides ours. We came to find out later that night, while we gabbed with other guests on their very cool porch, that at Harpers Ferry(or Knoxville to be specific since we were on the Maryland side) the Appalachian Trail intersects with the C&O Canal Towpath. So most of the other guests were hiking the trail. Honestly hearing from the guests about their experiences on the trail and their many reasons for hiking from Georgia to Maine was the best part, and this place being a hostel, it leant itself to that communal vibe. The second best part was the make your own breakfast set-up complete with seasonal fresh fruit and a pancake griddle and batter station! We left feeling refreshed and totally stuffed.
