H&R Block

As I’m writing this, I’m still completely livid about my experience with H&R Block. In this review, I’ll outline 3 key points that demonstrate how awful this place is and why you should never, under any circumstances, choose this miserable place with disrespectful employees.
1) Unprofessional — From the second I walked into the door, I was treated with a since of «dread» — like no one cared to help me. I finally said, «Uh, I’d like help with my taxes?» And the front desk seemed completely offended I actually need help. He reluctantly got someone (what an inconvenience!) He connected me with an older woman named Patricia, who has no business doing taxes for anybody, including herself. She made approximately 6 mistakes in a span of THREE AND HALF HOURS. Two different people had to come «help» her with my taxes because apparently it’s difficult to input W2s from two different states. You’d think I owned a thousand properties claiming a million people. I’m really a single woman renting an apartment with nothing in my name.
2) No knowledge — Several times Patricia asked me, someone who has no experience in doing taxes, to «guide her along the way» to doing my taxes. I don’t think I would have paid the $ 186 fee for her to do my taxes if I knew I had to hold her hand during the process. Mind you, my background is in English, not numbers, guys. Get it together, Patricia. After several errors and «redos» of my taxes, a manager came over to tell her to «give it a moment, Trish! They are being rejected because you’re not waiting! You’ve done this before, you haven’t you?» So funny that I’m wasting my afternoon because of 3 people’s incompetence.
3) Disrespectful, unkind, just plain rude — After trying to nickel and dime me and charge me up to $ 280 for the service (or lack of) Patricia provided me, I finally left — extremely unhappy with the whole experience. I thought it was over. Two days later I get 3 phone calls from my favorite employee, Patricia, saying she had «messed up my taxes» and «I hope you haven’t filed them yet!» Because I am a responsible adult and wanting to get them out immediately, of course I sent them to the IRS. She then instructed me to come in AGAIN so I could sign off for some things and she could try to backpedal all the mistakes she’s made throughout the process. At this point I was livid — I wanted nothing more to do with H&R Block. After I signed what I needed to sign and expressed my frustration and hinted at some sort of a refund for her mistakes, she had no sympathy. Instead, her HORRENDOUS, MISERABLE boss Lori came over and scolded me like I was a child in elementary school. I’m telling you, between the two of these women, I’ve never met more lazy, disrespectful, apathetic people in my life. I ended up getting a measly $ 68 back out of the $ 180 I paid, and received no apology — just two women who were of no help and didn’t care about my experience at all. Not one day later I receive ANOTHER call from H&R Block saying there was another mistake made of my taxes. Because I could no longer deal with this office, I had them transfer my information to another H&R Block because I no longer wanted any interaction with that office.
In all, PLEASE consider boycotting this miserable office with its miserable staff. Needless to say, I’m not optimistic about my appointment at the Cedar Bluff office, but it can’t get any worse than the Bearden office.
Do yourself a favor — hire ANYONE ELSE but this AWFUL place. 0 stars, if it was possible.

Makes Mistakes /​Doesn’t Stand Behind Work: my elderly parents have used this H & R Block office for 15 years. Recently, the IRS notified my parents that H & R Block failed to calculate & file state taxes on dividends for two tax years. The DIV documents my parents presented to their tax «expert» should have triggered a state filing (as it did 13 out of 15 years). When asked to respond, Lori Smith, a Senior Tax Advisor at this office, informed us they refuse to cover the nearly $ 700 in penalties and interest being imposed. Find another tax service. H & R Block, especially this particular office, cheats old people who can ill afford their «help».
