A Leap Of Taste

Great, casual atmosphere to come read a book, do homework or work! Friendly service & the food looked so good! I got an americano & my friend got a vanilla latte. Honestly, the coffee wasn’t great. But the service, atmosphere & food would bring me back here. Coffee snobs, this is not a place you will like. However, I’d say give this place a try!

The sandwiches tasted like something made from home on cheap wonder bread. There were more bums inside than there were customers and the dj was playing some of the most awful sounds I have ever heard. The hostess asked us to take our order to go because they were closing in twenty minutes.

Great atmosphere. Ordered Indian soup. Fast service and yummy soup. If you want healthy choices this is the place to be

This place is a great check in point. Live music, fresh sandwiches, coffee and service. I’d recommend the stop. Very impressed all around.

My husband and I stopped in this place on a road trip to Bend, OR. The sandwiches were great and I especially loved the mocha hot chocolate.

A Leap of Taste is a great place to get lunch in downtown Klamath Falls. I love how the food you order always comes with a piece of fresh fruit and a piece of chocolate! However, my favorite part of going to A Leap of Taste is that three times I’ve gone there, the local musician group, «Just Friends» was performing. They have about three to four musicians, and they play mostly folk music, but you’d be surprised at their repertoire. At Christmastime, they will play fun Christmas tunes. Today they played the violin theme from Ken Burns’ «The Civil War» movie. It was lovely! Very pleasant to listen to, «Just Friends» always brightens my day!

I love Unilocal recommendations! Travelers headed south and looking for a warm, healthy, and yummy lunch. All fulfilled, and some cool mellow live music too! Felt like I was at a hipster café Marin — great sandwiches and soup. Good stuff for the kids too. And the lady taking orders was the sweetest!

Came late, just before closing, but everyone was extremely nice. Food was delivered very promptly.
They obviously take great pride in their cooking.
Especially good was the sweet potato chipotle soup. Perfect flavour with just the right amount of spice.

Just passing through from Crater Lake, and boy are we glad we stopped! Gluten free options are delicious and the breakfast sandwich is a MUST!!! Everyone is super friendly, the atmosphere is welcoming and the food is superb!

Good find for a quick and easy lunch on the way to Bend. They have gluten free bread which was really good and perfect for our two year old who can’t have gluten. Love that they have half sandwiches as well. Super casual place with mixed furniture. We enjoyed our lunch on he couch which was perfect with a wiggly toddler.

Gluen-​Free treats and GF breakfast and lunch options. I was delighted with my vegetarian sandwich and the Moroccan Chickpea soup was delish!

In this tiny charming town, this place is a MUST. I loved the vibe of it, and the food was really fantastic. If it had not served meat, I would have bestowed my highest praise on it — a 5. But, I reserve my 5s for vegetarian or vegan places.
I would say this is the coolest place in town. The store front is beautiful — so historic looking, and there are a couple tables to sit outside. There are plenty of tables inside. You go in and order your food at the counter, off the chalkboard, and they bring it to you.
I had a sandwich and some carrot soup. The bread was SO fresh and delicious, and my sandwich was made to order. The soup was wonderful too. As I was standing there ordering my meal, I noticed in the little refrigerated section, some broccoli slaw-​looking stuff. I ordered up a small amount of it, because I wasn’t sure I would like it. OMG! It was sooooo delicious. It was a nice mix of crunchy veggies, seeds, and the MOST wonderful dressing on it. The guy told me it was locally made — get it if you go here, it was so good. When I got home, I even tried to make it. I got everything right, but, I couldn’t duplicate the delicious dressing they had on their’s.
They also serve coffees, and different teas. They pretty much have anything you could want. They also have a little area where they sell cards and little trinkets. Prices were extremely reasonable. It was very crowded at lunch time on a weekday, so I’m guessing this is a pretty popular spot.
Go here, go now. Good, clean, friendly place to eat!

This small town café and sandwich shop is located in the old downtown of Klamath Falls. Inside is a rustic cozy layout and offers a nice atmosphere to come and read a book. while having coffee or lunch. Everything is self service and the items on the menu are pretty tasty but no wow factor. When we visited ¾ of the menu were not available for purchase. As far as deli’s go I have seen worse and I have seen better.

For a quaint little coffee niche it does a good job. It’s usually a bite and brew place, but has live music on set dates. Also it’s a deli and store combo with whole bean coffee and many organic options. You don’t have to be conformed to a formal seating and can relax in a couch or use the back room for meetings and studying. The only slip is the breakfast menu is not as diverse as nearby coffee house competitions. Awesome place for drip coffee.

Blah, whatever.
We wanted Mermaid Garden, but they literally locked the door as we walked to it – thanks a lot, guys. So, we came here instead. I ordered the number two, and was left reasonably full but disappointed: this was basically nothing but a sandwich that I could have made at home. There was nothing special about the sandwich. It was just a decent deli-​style sandwich. What was stupid to me was that the menu says fresh fruit and a piece of chocolate come with every sandwich… really? Because I got neither. When my girlfriend’s mom asked about the chocolate, they said it was too hot outside to serve chocolate… really? I saw chocolate all over the place. She also wanted some mayonnaisse for her sandwich and they didn’t give it to her… really?
If that’s not enough, there was an annoying old man groaning into a microphone the whole time we were there. I guess he was supposed to be singing, but it sounded like crap and I would have much rather have eaten in silence.
I was going to give the place a three, but thinking back, it doesn’t deserve that. A really underwhelming experience, and I’d recommend skipping this place. I’m not sure where these other reviewers were eating at, but it wasn’t here.

Traveling and just what I was looking for!
On my way through for the night on a moving trip to Bend and wanted a quick, yummy, cheap as local breakfast option without the sit down and tip atmosphere. I’m also gluten free. I had an iced chai, gf brownie and gf spinach and feta quiche. It’s hard being gf and finding cheap eats at coffee shops but this place has tons of options for the gf traveller on a budget. The quiche was huge and I struggled to finish the last bites, $ 4 and the crust was the flakiest crust ever! The brownie, omg. I rely on Unilocal and picked this place because of it and its gf options including the reviews of the brownie! Like a fudge bridge basically but still bakes brownie goodness! Very friendly service too. All around just what I wanted!

On a road trip, was looking for a place for a late lunch. A Leap of Taste popped up on Unilocal so off we went. Easy to find (Klamath Falls downtown is small) and lots of street parking. The place has a cool, relaxed coffee hangout vibe.
You order in the back so we checked out their sandwich offerings. In addition to the specials on the board, you can custom order any sandwich you want. The guy taking our order was super nice and patient while we made up our minds and asked questions.
Ended up with 2 roast beef, 1 turkey, 1 proscuitto, a cookie, a smoothie and a bottled bhakti. The sandwiches were all real hearty. Packed with meat and cheese, real tasty. The cookie was huge and real good.
If you’re in the area, definitely recommend a stop here.

Great honest-​to-​goodness fresh food, awesome coffee, and stellar service.
They have a solid selection of delicious baked goods, the best gluten free chocolate muffin I’ve ever had, and sustainably grown bulk coffee beans.
This business is local economy centered (most everything they use or sell is from their community) plus, they are very reasonably priced. No matter how you look at it, it’s a solid win.
I love A Leap of Taste.

I’m feeling plucky so I’ll just say it was very smart of me to stop here for a late lunch.
The temptation when on a road trip is to stay close to the highway. That sort of guarantees bad food. But this place only took a minute or two extra, and I was rewarded with:
1. Very eager, nice, and actually helpful staff.
2. Said staff wrapped half of my lunch to-​go and included a little chocolate candy in the bag. Sweet.
3. I ate the other half of my sandwich (choice of local bakery breads, including gluten free) and best homemade tomato basil soup in house.
4. My eat-​in basket included another chocolate. Sweet and nice.
5. Overall atmosphere excellent. Wish I didn’t have to get back on the road.
Feel good. Stop here. Don’t argue with me.

A nice enough little place in downtown area to make a detour when passing through KFalls to enjoy friendly service, funky and fun interior, and good food at fair prices. But for a civil rights problem with the Loo, this would be a 4 star review for other elements. But a 2 star Loo issue leads me to split the difference and call it 3 star outcome.
THE FRAMEWORK
Independently owned and operated café which helps provide job training to at risk youth and young adults. Knowing this in advance is one of the things that made me choose to give Leap of Taste my business. Social consciousness which makes the Loo Snafu all the more troubling.
THE VIBE & SEATING
Fun, funky, bright, sparkling clean. Seating options at standard height tables and chairs and spaced plenty far apart. No sardine can seating here. Yahoo! Also a few counter stools at a high counter by the window. Also a couple of sofas near the door.
A few «bulk bins» at one side of the store offer items like lentils and beans for purchase. A cold case on the other side has items for sale like local, free range chicken eggs from a local farm, local horseradish, local chocolates and so on.
Looks like they have free wifi too.
THE DRILL
Line up and order at the counter from the chalkboard overhead of sandwiches (house specials and make your own), deli salads or quiche. Don’t know if they deliver to your table or call your name when your order is ready because service was so prompt for us during a late lunch time period that our sandwich was ready before we even walked away.
THE FOOD
Sandwiches run around $ 8 for a whole and half sizes are available for around $ 5 as well as «soup and.» or «salad and…» combos with half sandwiches for around $ 8. Deli salads included vegan, vegetarian and omnivore options. They also have small plates of assorted cheeses or charcuterie, both with fruit and bread for around $ 11. The best deal of all may be the quiche, muffin and fruit option for $ 5 or $ 6.
As much as possible they use sustainable or organic and local products. More for reason I went in. More social consciousness that makes the Loo Snafu puzzling.
Vegetarian sandwich (on my choice of rye bread) with cheese, flavorful fresh tomatoes (a hard thing to find in January), fresh greens and yummy olive tapenade hit the spot. It was served in a little wicker basket lined with black and white checked parchment paper, a foil wrapped milk chocolate and some fresh melon, all for under $ 8.
THE LOO SNAFU
People of all physical abilities will be able to get in the door here and up to the counter to order their food and find a seat at the table. That includes people who walk and people who roll in wheelchairs. A good thing and just as the soon to be 24 year old civil rights law known as ADA says should be so; equal access for people in the minority class of people with disabilities. (A note which will have import in a moment, is roughly 20% of all Americans are disabled and roughly 11% of all Americans have mobility disabilities.)
But the rub is if the customer is someone who uses a wheelchair, apparently they are not allowed access to a bathroom as I noted the Loo is not accessible for that population. Just to be clear, that includes US Representative Tammy Duckworth (D-​Ill) who was disabled during a helicopter accident in the Middle East during wartime service. It also includes Grammy award winning singer Linda Rondstadt who now uses a wheelchair when she travels due to Parkinson’s disease.
Rep. Duckworth is in the 4% minority of Americans with Asian heritage. Ms. Rondstadt is in the 14% minority of Americans with Latino heritage. We’d be outraged if either of those women was denied equal access to a eatery’s bathroom because of their ethnicity. We ought to be equally as outraged if they are denied the dignity of equal access because of their 11% minority status as Americans with mobility disabilities.
Of course, neither of those women was at this restaurant when I was there. But the point is… well you see the point.
My basic MO these days is I may go in once to a business that doesn’t provide equal access. But once I know better, as I did after using the Loo here, I won’t go back to give them my business until all people are treated equally. I wouldn’t be comfortable with «whites only» signs outside the bathroom door. I’m equally uncomfortable with «able bodied people only» set ups.
Making the relatively simple changes to the Loo for equal access is the responsibility of the building owner not the tenant business. But the tenant chooses to operate in such a building.
END OF SPEECHIFYIN’…
If you’re in the area to spend a day on the Klamath Basin Flyway for bird watching, this is a good place to get a sandwich to pack in your picnic basket or to eat in. Unless of course, the accessibility snafu keeps you away.
