Kirkwood Shop n Save Pharmacy — the very BEST! Their Pharmacists are so helpful and caring(so friendly)! I have been going there for several years for all of my prescriptions(and my daughter’s prescriptions as well) — always a positive experience! I appreciate the wonderful ladies in the pharmacy for all of their assistance!

My review is strictly for the pharmacy, as they didn’t seem to have their own page that I could find and I’m too lazy to start one, haaaa. The store is a grocery store. It’s fine. Anyway the Shop N Save pharmacy in Kirkwood is the best, period. Their customer service is excellent, just above and beyond, every time. The pharmacists and techs are very knowledgeable and so friendly and efficient. Whenever I go in they address me by my name and immediately go get my medications. Like, I don’t even have to ask. Same thing if I call on the phone– they know exactly who I am without having to hunt for my chart like every other pharmacy in existence ever. They’re prompt about contacting doctors for refills and they get your prescriptions ready in literally minutes, every time, whereas your average drug store requires a couple of hours at least when you call it in. I live in the south city area and I make the drive out to freaking Kirkwood to get all my meds, sometimes after work during rush hour, if that tells you anything. They’re awesome.

This store is A-OK. It’s not bad, and it’s not great. It’s right in the middle. I shopped here frequently when I moved to St. Louis in 2009. Prices were low, and I loved Coupon Thursday – $ 10 off of a $ 50 purchase, no coupon required. Unfortunately, things have changed. Their prices really aren’t that low. Sure, they have sales. Everyone does. It’s just now not much different from a Schnucks or Dierbergs in terms of everyday prices. They also discontinued Coupon Thursday, BUT they occasionally offer the same deal on various days of the week(often Friday). However, you do need to clip the coupon from the ad in order to take advantage of the savings. Strangely, when you did not need a coupon, it was called Coupon Thursday. Now that you do need a coupon, it is not called Coupon Friday(or Coupon Whatever Day). Something to think about. Should you choose to participate in a $ 10-off-of-$ 50 deal, your goal should be to spend as close to $ 50 as possible. I recommend using a spreadsheet on your phone rather than a calculator. Set up a column for the product name and a column for the price. Then, enter a formula in a separate cell to keep a running total of all of your purchases. Why is this better than using a calculator? First, you don’t have to worry about accidentally clearing your total and having to start over. Second, once you’ve gone over $ 50, you can decide if it makes sense for you to put something back on the shelf and bring your total closer to uuuuunnn goooooooooooolll! When it’s time to pay, you have the choice of using the self-checkout or going old-school with an actual human cashier. Either way, you’ll bag your own groceries. I believe that is somehow part of the equation that saves you money somewhere in some way. This store actually is no longer a 24-hour location. Their new hours are 5:00AM to 1:00AM daily, so they’re now open only a measly 20 hours every day. :p I’ll continue to keep an eye on their weekly ads, and I’ll definitely use those $ 10-off coupons from time to time. However, this won’t be my go-to grocery store. My mama told me, «You better shop around. Because a place that sells zucchini at $ 1.98/lb during the summer probably isn’t your perfect match. Most places sell tend to sell it for $ 1.49/lb or less. You can do better.»

This location makes the best salt and vinegar chicken wings!!! The employees are friendly and helpful. They have the best price on Mal to Meal hot cereal. The potato wedges are good and they’ll fry you fish and chicken fresh to order. Now mind you, I only eat the salt and vinegar wings… The store is clean and open 24hrs.

Open until 3pm on Thanksgiving day. I’d have been screwed if they were closed.

Shop ‘n Save is great when you need to get in, get out and get on your way quick. This is the go to grocery store. It’s not a labyrinth like Schnucks or Dierbergs that require you to traverse the whole store before finding your item and the check out. It doesn’t have 500 different kinds of BBQ sauces or dishwashing detergent brands to choose from. It isn’t as expensive as all the other grocery stores either. While I certainly don’t do the majority of my shopping at Shop ‘n Save, when I need a tub of Cool Whip, a loaf of bread or a bottle of milk, I know I can count of Shop ‘n Save to have that staple. It’s not fancy, but it’s functional. Way to be there for the little things Shop ‘n Save. Keep it up.

Has all the essentials but don’t expect to find luxury products. I like it.

I need to find a good grocery store in STL; I have heard mixed messages about this place and so I thought I would try it out. I do think it is a little cheaper than other grocery stores in the area, but I am not sure if I will go here every week for shopping. I was a little shocked when I had to bag my own groceries; I had never heard of this concept before. I didn’t mind doing it, but it would have been nice if I would have known beforehand. Not sure if driving out to this Shop n Save is worth the energy I had to exert in saving money. On to the next one… what other grocery stores are there in the area that are decent? I have tried Schnucks, Dierbergs, and of course Trader Joes. There has to be something better out there!

Shop ‘n Save a little money, but NOT time! Although Shop ‘n Save is the closest to my home, I have not had a good enough experience to make it my regular, go-to, grocer. I go there when I just need a thing or two, and with the lack of express lanes and self check-out, I may stop going there all together! If you are likely to get carded for adult beverages, don’t bother going through the self check-out…I was in a bit of a rush and since there was no express lane open I went through the self check-out(knowing I would be carded). ID in hand, the attendant at the self check-out lane was unable to card me since I have an out-of-state ID, so she had to call the manager. The manager must have been on break… a couple minutes later, the manager looked at my ID, but expecting an Illinois ID, did not bring«the ID book» over. .They had to look for the book… several minutes later, my transaction was approved and I was able to make my single purchase… After realizing I did not have milk for my morning coffee, I ran up to Shop ‘n Save at about 8:55PM on a Thursday night. I noticed that they were closing up the self check-out as I was on my way to the back of the store to grab a gallon of milk… I knew I was in trouble… sure enough, by the time I got to the front of the store, there were 3 lanes open and not a single express lane! Each line had 3 – 4 full carts of groceries ahead of me… All I wanted was to pay for a single item. About 20 minutes later, I was on my way. Since you have to bag your own groceries at Shop ‘n Save, the lines move very slow… It would be nice if they had an express lane or kept the self check-out open. On the plus side, parking is never a problem!

Compared to other Shop ‘n Save grocery stores in the area, this one is my favorite. Everything here seems cleaner and more fresh than other locations if that makes any sense! Not sure if you really save a ton of money at Shop ‘n Save vs. Schnucks. Obviously it’s cheaper than groceries at Dierbergs. But compared to Trader Joe’s or event Target, the prices aren’t that different. Would I shop here again? Sure! Will I drive to Kirwood to do so? Probably not. But if in the area, I’d certainly go back.

This is my parents’ preferred shopping place. They don’t care about the muszak and get all of their produce from Soulard, so they don’t buy much. They also are very self sufficient, so the concept of bagging your own groceries is ok with them. The #1 reason they go here is because of the price. The stuff here is considerably less than Schnucks or Dierbergs. They buy the same stuff all the time, so they are very price conscientious. The liquor here is very reasonable as we have bought quite a bit of it during our visits to my parents’ house. Since the other review was so negative, I can only wonder if this place is for seniors only and that’s why Clarissa had such a bad experience!

Clarissa J.: *Wanders, lost, through Shop ‘n Save like through some horrid nightmare* «Someone help me… please, help me…» Plastic, happy, not-quite-elevator-muzak-but-more-like-sadistic-dentist-office music quietly plays overhead, but with enough pronunciation and cheeriness that it burrows precisely and targetedly into your brain like a needle. This is the soundtrack to a frightening B-movie about grocery shopping where everything is sterile, from the aisles to the music, to the staff — seemingly in order, but actually in bizarre and utter chaos. What is that stench that emerges from the deli?! The closer you get, the more pungent it becomes. A white nectarine I pick out is hard like an apple, or an uncooked potato. The patrons are brutish and bestial, wearing scowls — except perhaps when answering a cell phone call from a friend, but once the call is over, proceed back to the sludgy funk with which they began to shop. Price tags on shelves suggest sales, but if you really take a look, everything is actually more expensive than shopping in Chicago. [Clarissa J.: How on EARTH can they use«Save» in their name?] Being set upon the arduous task of finding that«Polar Ice» flavored Eclipse gum that She particularly likes, aisle after aisle offers nothing but Peppermint, Spearmint, Winterfrost, Midnight Cool… everything but the one you were asked to get. [Clarissa J.: Should we risk beheading by buying Her a different flavor??] Our self check out machine is an industrial cousin to HAL9000 and independently decides to restart after we scan everything in our basket, only to keep us trapped a little longer under the Shop ‘n Save’s power. And just when you think you’ve made it out safely, just when you get back to the house and unpack your bags… you realize that, during the awful, cloudy-headed excursion, you’d forgotten the most important item… and you have to go back. *The song«Hotel California» begins to play on the radio as Clarissa J. gets back into the car to return to the store. Or is it really just playing in her mind? «You can check out any time you like, but you can NEVER leave!”*
